A new kind of cinema censorship

censored

The scene above is from the movie Mad Max, seems the censors are now airbrushing some scenes with revealing clothing. Not sure how I feel about this, on one hand its better than completely cutting the scene, but on the other hand it’s still censorship and that sucks.

I saw this today at Grand cinema at al-hamra. Since I am pro-censorship but also a movie fan I do think it is a step in the right direction. That being said, I noticed that they censored parts via airbrush sometimes and other times didn’t censor them at all. A very half-assed job. In one scene a girl would raise her thigh and it would be censored and then when they cut back to the same scene the thigh wouldn’t be censored and fully exposed.

If you’re going to do something at least do it right. Somehow I feel this is to slowly push an ulterior and in fact opposite agenda than censoring. Somehow making it more normal to show thighs and bare backs by censoring them only half of the time.

You’re pro censorship? Why? Why not just apply age restrictions that are already setup and used throughout the world that keep younger children from entering in the first place? I’m an adult and I’ll watch whatever I want based on my own moral authority, not the moral authority of a 40-50 year old minister.

These censorships are half-assed and degrade the quality of the film.

As long as the people in charge hold on to their archaic religious beliefs, the country will never progress to its full potential.

It has nothing to do with religious beliefs. Violence/blood scenes are censored (all the blood scenes, most violence removed). They censor movies because of the lack of age restrictions. There is no regulation system for age restrictions, young children are often at these movies.

Kuwait is not progressing to its full potential because of corruption. Corruption isn’t linked to religion.

+1 couldn’t agree more. Its said I see people from this part of the world blaming their Arab roots and religion.

Are you kidding? Nobody give a flying duck about violence. Name any movie where any scene was removed because of violence. They censor even stupid innocent cartoon kiss scenes (Tangled for example) but violence is never censored here!

Are you kidding me? They absolutely do censor violence, not sure where you got that idea. Action movies are basically unwatchable if they are violent enough. In this movie (Mad Max), they censored all the blood scenes.

If they did censor the gore in Mad Max they did a very bad job because there was still a lot of grisly deaths that weren’t cut.

Patrick: They did censor the blood/violence in Mad Max. Any scene containing blood was cut. This isn’t something I’m making up, other people have noted this including TJC Films (Timothy Carr). If you’ve watched action movies in Kuwait throughout the past year you will notice that they’ve been cutting lots of the violence/blood. I don’t know where you watched Mad Max but Cinescape most definitely did cut blood scenes.

It should be either done professionally and consistently or not done at all. The actress in the photo looks like a weatherwoman wearing green by mistake, it’s ridiculous.

it might appear as a step in the right direction, because its better than cutting the whole scene. BUT, we know thats not the case. the censorship will cut scenes AND paint over shit that doesnt matter, just to show us how powerful they are.

Did anyone see batman v superman trailer in Kncc cinemas? I wonder what they will do to the final film

This movie was completely ruined with the distracting censorship as well as their half-assed efforts.

Avengers had scenes censored due to the word “asses” and “bitch”, yet scenes that involved a man being thrusted into a woman’s cleavage were deemed to be ok. Oh and not to mention the words “ass”, “shit”, “bastard”, and “gods” were all left uncensored.

It made absolutely no logical sense at all.

Deadpool and Batman v Superman will definitely be unwatchable in Kuwait, I guarantee it

i agree its better than cutting the whole scene.
i don’t know why all the cinema was laughing when this scene came up
i didn’t cuz i thought well they didn’t cut the whole scene

Though i appreciate that it’s a step towards right direction in kuwait (at least they are not cutting the full scenes), but still lots of scenes were cut. Hell crazy the movie really is, hell crazy the editing was done by the censorship guys.

The most abnormal thing which i am noticing now a days, that they are start muting / blurring whenever a word GOD comes (take latest example of batman vs superman trailer). I wonder what they are going to do in the coming days.

I highly recommend and appreciate if they don’t even allow movies in theater if that’s the case. If you want to implement something, than do it properly, rather then screwing everyone’s money. That’s wrong.

Another reason not to go the garbage cinemas we have in Kuwait? Excellent. KNCC takes ‘family friendly’a bit over the top. Not every movie has to be appropriate for families. Dubai has an immensely better cinema experience. Sit where you want (unless you reserved), no bachelor/family bull shit seating, proper equipment, and no needless censorship.

I second family and bachelor arrangement, but again it should be done in a proper way. I have seen it in Kuwait many times, it’s always bachelors who have to suffer from poor seating arrangement.

“no bachelor/family bull shit seating”

Spoken like a bachelor. I actually like that arrangement.

Censoring thighs? Really? I’ve seen much more risque stuff than that walking around the Avenues and the universities. Let’s stop trying to kid ourselves into believing that we are morally higher than everyone in the world. Those same people who are sitting up on their high chairs preaching about morality and how censorship is good of the society are the first ones to buy the bootlegged versions of the movies to see what they missed in the cinema.

They completely butchered this movie. They most certainly edited violent scenes as they did with movies like predators and Kingsmen. One whole sequence actually in addition to all the small cuts. I make my living as a film editor and can spot every cut…especislly from these novices. Whatever happened to self moderation or the rating system. Why says 16 and above only but then edit it down to a 13 year old level. Not only that it made much of the movie completely disjointed and left you sitting there wondering what the hell just happened. I myself have not nor will I return to watch another movie in any Kuwait cinema ever again. If you all are happy being treated like little kids have fun and keep condoning the ruination of artistic integrity and freedom of choice by supporting these assholes. #Boycottkuwaitcinemas
