Dinosaur is a local short film that was produced back in 2013 but due to it being entered in some film festivals, it just became available for the public to watch online a few days ago. The film is directed by Meqdad Al-Kout who’s behind another popular local film, Mustache (Shanab). Dinosaur follows a government employee who is trying to change his job title to a higher position before retiring.
I have mixed feelings about the film, overall I liked it but I did find some of the scenes a bit cheesy and I really didn’t like the film visually. But Dinosaur did have some hilarious moments with my favorite being at 15:43 minutes into the film when the employee walks into an office full of niqab ladies. There are a bunch of great moments like that in the film which made me enjoy it overall. The film is in Arabic but has English subtitles. It’s also not too long just 20 minutes so if you’ve got the time check it out on [Vimeo]

man that was really depressing.
WoW, I’m trying to apply to “Diwan Al5idma” right now !
This really depressed me, good production, slow story… impressive camera stuff GJ lads.
This did motivate me to start my own business even if i were selling melons… sounds depressing
thanks
Thank god there was english subs! Believe it or night I am actually really interested in Kuwaiti productions but alas, I need the subtitles. I don’t know how long I’ll be in the Middle East so that rules out how much arabic I’ll learn (before the crowds of, “Well you should learn Arabic!” start carrying on…)
Now somebody do the subs for “Shinoo Yani!”
Shino Ya3ni is so much funnier mostly due to the fact that its more ballsy (18+) and uses things that actually make people laugh, those are the videos (locally produced) that really get me giggling; this one was not that funny but seemed to have some sort of deeper meaning (no promotion, no motivation, waste, etc).
I have realized how life is so empty, and how I just wasted half an hour over watching something that was entirely waste of time, where do I start? the idea was good, but it was badly executed, and the ending kinda was annoying, I am wearing beats, and you know beats the sound on high, and it kinda blew my ear off, I skipped scenes, like man when this just gets interesting.
Excellent movie! Big thanks to the directors who made this. It truly captures the wazara life, thanks for also showing the invisible workers of the ministries (the clerks, tea boys, and cleaners)…
Very impressed with the cinematography.
I support local art!
It seems like the filmmaker was influenced by Peter Greenaway who’s one of my favorite arthouse film directors.
He also relies heavily on long shots.
I absolutely loved this.
Keep ’em coming, Mr. Kout.
6ag3a mitwa9la..so many favorite parts haha..such an enjoyable watch!
Despite this being a depressing film I think this is an excellent video depicting the absolute reality of a typical wizzara employee life and lifestyle. If Kuwait wants nationals to shift away from the over burdened bursting to capacity gov sector, to a more diversified private sector this movie should be showed again and again in conferences, meet ups, change campaign, etc etc. It is a little scary seeing that this video depicts a very large and very very real part of the local employment!
