Movies & TV Shows to Watch this Weekend

Last week I mentioned I wanted to watch Sweetpea and I ended up watching two episodes after signing up to the streaming service STARZ. Only two episodes are out yet and third one coming out tomorrow and it’s so good. If you’re a fan of Ella Purnell (Fallout, Yellowjackets, Sweetbitter) then you’re gonna really like her in Sweetpea.

Other than that I rewatched 28 Weeks Later in preparation for the upcoming 28 Years Later. My wife hadn’t watched either 28 Days Later nor 28 Weeks Later so wanted her to watch them. 28 Days Later isn’t available to buy or stream digitally anywhere, at least I couldn’t find it but 28 Weeks Later was on Hulu. For those of you too young to know this but 28 Days Later was pretty much the first to invent zombies that run fast. A super scary idea at that time. Also, 28 Days Later was directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, The Beach, Slumdog Millionaire).

Let me know in the comments what you recently watched or planning to watch.

who’s watching Grotesquerie? episode 7 was shocking! can’t wait for 8&9 later today 🙂

movies I watched:
– The Vanishing (1988) nice thriller
– Solaris (1972) great subject, might be boring for some, but I loved it
– Paths of Glory (1957) very beautiful movie
– Woman of The Hour (2023) was meh
– The Ides of March (2011) I didn’t know this movie existed. it’s a very good political drama
– MadS (2024) great, great horror movie. a must watch
– Medium Cool (1969) I don’t know why I liked this movie very much
– Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) first time watching it. exceeded my expectations. also a must watch
– The Sting (1973) has all the elements of a great movie made in the 70’s. nice story. a fun watch
– Jeanne Dielman (1975) 200 minutes of still frames and minimum dialogue. my type of movie
– The Childhood of a Leader (2015) epic, powerful, very beautiful. it’s the first feature of Brady Corbet. now I can’t wait for The Brutalist (2024)

I really enjoyed the “Ides of March” – it wasn’t a movie I would have chosen at the time, but watched it as I was on a flight and there were limited options. Definitely worth watching / rewatching. Thank you.

The Sting is a great classic of its time and a good conduit into “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “Cool Hand Luke” if you enjoyed the amazing talent that Paul Newman was.

This week I admit to watching “Love at First Sight – Habibi” on Netflix. Car crash TV but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Only movies I watched were:

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (Technically a sequel to the first Justice League Dark movie, but it’s pretty much a sequel/culmination of the previous Justice League and DC movies in this franchise, and it was insane! Quite gory and violent at times, and it’s the best entry in this series, even though the previous movies were rather mediocre)

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (I thought I was going to enjoy this more. It’s better than most of the Michael Bay Transformers movies, but not nearly as good as the Bumblebee movie imo)

As for shows:

I finally finished the first season of The Looney Tunes Show, and the laughs were few and far between throughout its 26-episode season, and the last few eps had Daffy Duck acting the most insufferable as I’ve ever seen Daffy act in any Looney Tunes media.

I’ve also been making my way through Doctor Who (2005) S11, Stargirl S2, Agatha All Along, The Penguin, Lizzie McGuire S1, and it’s all good stuff! 😁👍🏻

I love all DCAMU movies. My favourites are:
The Flashpoint Paradox
The Long Halloween
Green Lantern: Beware My Power
