Sicko

Definitely not a comedy. Its a documentary, with some funny instances, but in fact the film itself is very sad (I choked up on a couple of instances).

Anyways, I saw it yesterday, and being an American I feel obligated to comment. This movie was fascinating and depressingly right on all counts. Whether you like Michael Moore or despise him, he hits the mark with this movie.

The sad truth is that healthcare really is that expensive in the U.S. America spends far, far, far too much on its defense budget, and if only a percent of it was shaved off it could use it to fund a public healthcare program. However, in addition to Washington constantly receiving pharmaceutical grants, the American attitude and gullibility towards government sponsored programs, that might never happen. It is extremely saddening (being an American) to know that the U.S., while being one of the richest most powerful nations in the world, has 3rd world medical care and is the only developed nation without universal medical insurance. Even Kuwait has a system in place.

And the hypocrisy is unbelievable. We have social services like police, school, and welfare, but not healthcare because all of a sudden thats socialist territory. Tremendous idiocy.

I recommend this film to any American or anyone thinking about immigrating to America. I’ve already considered retiring elsewhere simply because I cannot afford to live in the U.S.

What…what are you talking about. First of all, why should he “stir controversy.” If there is anything that is broken with the U.S’s government you can damn well bet its medicine. Second, Michael Moore doesn’t care if the movie got leaked, as he said himself that because of the bluntness of the film itself, it is difficult to distribute, so its pretty safe to assume he leaked it himself (he’s done it before). Yes, at the end of the day he gets a paycheck, but what director doesn’t? I don’t see what you’re getting at here. He made a meaningful documentary that he as passionate in…and he got paid. Is there a problem?

I don’t think the fact that he’s overweight has anything to do with the message he sends out with his film. If you dislike him on the merits or grounds that he’s overweight, or that you won’t watch his films, well I feel sorry for your misplaced priorities. Enough with the Michael Moore fat comments and jokes. Yes, the guy is fat. Does that change his message? Hell no.

I highly doubt that it will set healthcare backwards. That just makes no sense.

There are already ’08 hopeful candidates that advocate Universal healthcare. And a lot of it is false hope, but if anything this movie should help the cause. I know a lot of people listening to what Moore says and they can make the difference in their vote by voting a competent and progressive candidate, and not a war hawk.

Michael Moore has guts, that’s all I have to say. No one does what he does and he does it well. People who make fun of the way he looks and his weight have major issues they should resolve. I can’t wait till I get to watch this, even Oprah (everyone listens to Oprah) was raving about this. So he must’ve gotten something right =P

Okay, he’s a slob. No one takes his appearance seriously. Does that change the message? No. You’re seriously trying to find the most ridiculous things to criticize just because you have this childish grudge against a filmmaker. “OH LOOK, HE’S FAT! AND…AND HE SMELLS LOL. Whats the point of criticising him for financial gain when ALL documentaries are made for financial gain? Was “Supersize Me” directed for out of the goodness of Morgan Spurlocks heart or did he want money as well? I like to thing they are in it for both. Do musicians write music because they want money for it or because they want to be paid? Why can’t it be both? Just because you don’t want it to be true?

So now the History Channel is a non-monitory organization but Michael Moore is this rich motherfucker with a gold trimmed Hummer? How is that supposed to be surprising?

Hillary Clinton did not harm healthcare but she instead got buried by the pricks in congress that were obligated to decline it since they had a huge fucking paycheck coming to them by the end of the day. She may have failed to improve it yes, but she did not hurt the system. The system stayed the same way it was—-she in fact mentions in her ’08 candidacy that Universal Healthcare (like Canada) is an unrealistic expectation.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. First of all, when have strikes, lobbying, and union protests worked, except in rare situations such as Roe Vs. Wade? Have you even watched the thing? The pharmecutical corporations are PAYING the government to allow organizational control over private individuals—you can’t fight them in Washington, because Washington sits on a dickload of cash. Lobbying will get you no where. The only way to change the way things are is by voting for the proper candidate for ’08, and voting for progressive senators and governors—advocates of a socialist policy.

Remember a little book, about 150 pages long, called Uncle Toms Cabin? This little piece of media sparked the Civil War in the United States. Remember The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, which changed the meat packing industry forever? Hell, lets give you a modern example. Remember Supersize Me, which forced McDonalds to change some of its methods of advertising nutrition, and forced it to stop offering the Supersize option? Yes, BIG FUCKING SHOCK–media DOES make a difference! Its called muckraking—akin to gonzo journalism and it works because its REAL. If you don’t think people will change their minds over this film then you’re deluded. Its a harsh cold reality.

Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up. Give some other reasons other than “lol fat” or “he’s rich!” “EVERYONE HATES HIM!” Those aren’t reasons not to see the film and be swayed by it as an individual to vote for a better candidate. Those are not reasons, they’re grudges that you hold against Michael Moore.

I’m am seriously sick of the Michael Moore hate—which is so unfounded and so retarded that it makes my brain hurt. I understand that he twisted and manipulated several facts of Faranheit 9/11, but his current documentary isn’t like that goddamnit, and it certainly isn’t a valid point to hold some stupid vendetta against him. Stop it, and give some sensible easons as to why you dislike him.

Oh and by the way, you’re wrong about your last points. Do your research. There are millions of Michael Moore supporters, far more than there are detractors. And if you had bothered to watch “SiCKO,” at the end of the film he donates 12,000 grand to the biggest Michael Moore critic—because his wife was dying of cancer. I’m sure it was a publicity stunt (even if it was an anonymous donation), but as much as you hate to admit it, it proves his point and sets his prerogative in motion, regardless of it being slightly sensationalist.
