Bader Al-Mutawa to begin trial with Nottingham Forest

The Al-Hasawi family promised if they took over Nottingham Forest they would offer Kuwaitis a chance to play for the team. Looks like they’re sticking to their promise because Kuwaiti footballer Bader Al-Mutawa is set to begin a month-long trial with Nottingham Forest.

I have nothing against the player. He may be very good. However, there is a regular tryouts for which he can compete for entry with everyone else for that one month trial. In this case he didn’t compete for that spot because of wasta. If he’s good enough on his own merit there is no need for wasta.

How is that wasta? The owner of the team is Kuwaiti and part of his duties giving back to his country is that he wants to give local players a chance at the big leagues. This isn’t wasta. Wasta would be if that player sucked and still made it to the team because his father is best buddies with the owner.

This happens in the Premier League often Franco. Majority owners have the right to do this since they’re behind the finances. If Abramovich at Chelsea wants a player to try out or a player to play in the first team (Shevchenko) then he can force the managers hand. Liverpools new American owners are trying to get an American player into the team and whoever City owners want, they can get.

It’s called being boss.

Al-Mutawa has been nominated for Asia Player of the Year twice, finishing second in 2006 and third in 2010.

i think he deserve a chance!

u should watch the interview with captain alhabsi, the goalkeeper of the national team of oman and also the goalkeeper for Wigan Atheltic..he said there isnt a single arab player who can compete in the premier league directly, they should join a slowER-paced european league first before playing in england…..and i completely agree with him

any league in england is still light years ahead of the kind of soccer we play here in kuwait..and what alhabsi said still applies nonetheless

Al Habsi is just one person, one player and last I checked players don’t always make the best analysts. So Al Habsi can say what he likes, doesn’t mean he’s right.

That also doesn’t mean that Bader doesn’t deserve a chance, if he makes it, great, if not, oh well, at least he got a chance to succeed in a better league and has an understanding of what it takes. Hopefully the owners of Nottingham Forest will expand on this and open better training facilities here in Kuwait to help the talent we have here grow.

Not only Bader. Goalkeeper Khalid Al-Rashidi and Midfielder Hussein Fadel have begun their trial as well.
Also, Syrian strikers Feras Al-Khatib and Omar Al-Soma started last week.

No one deserves a chance more than he does. It’s just a trial. If the coach likes him and thinks he’ll be good for the club, then they’ll sign him. They own the club, they can do whatever they think is best. Good luck Bader!

u guys amaze me..seriously..bader is a “good” player in our local league..how do u think he will fare against professional players?? stop being emotional and think logically

dude if he isn’t up to their standards he won’t get on the team, it’s simple as that. why are you so upset he’s getting a chance? I’ve noticed its become the norm for some Kuwaitis to bash other Kuwaitis because they’ve achieved some sort of success.

He didn’t achieve success. He achieved wasta. If he was truly up to standards he would have got that trial spot after going through tryouts. He would have got that spot before the club was Kuwaiti owned. He would have gotten a spot in one of the other clubs in the PL.

Franco, why are you being so negative? This is only a trial, if he’s not up to standard then he wont get the spot. Not everyone goes through try-outs. Nottingham Forest isn’t even in the Premier League, they’re in the Football League Championship, the standards are lower than the Premier League.

First of all, there is no such thing as “open tryouts” in professional football. This isn’t high school. For someone to even be considered for a try out or a trial, they have to know somebody, that knows somebody, that knows somebody.

Bader Al Mutawa, without doubt, deserves a chance at professional football. He’s been our countries best player the past 5 years (if not more).

He didn’t get the “wasta” to have a trial, no – he worked hard the past 10 – 15 years of his life to have this opportunity of a life time.

Yes, the opportunity was made into a reality by Al Hasawi, a touch of luck – but hey, what’s life without a bit of luck?

And how is it that he “didn’t achieve success”? Just wearing your own countries badge & football shirt & being watched around the GCC is successful enough – even if he was a bench player.

Representing your country in anyway is success. Just look at Fay Al Sultan (17 yr old swimmer, competing in the olympics next week) – the fact that she’s representing her country on a world base is already a SUCCESS, she doesnt need to win anything, she’s already achieved something that 97% of the Kuwaiti’s will never achieve.

Same goes to Bader Al Mutawa. Now i can keep going on and on and on, but I hope my point has been made.

Hard work in Kuwait doesn’t mean wasta in England. He earned that trial, and it took him his whole to get it – now it’s up to him to prove YOU wrong.

wow uve noticed that huh?? all of your negative posts about kuwait arent considered bashing, but me pointing out the obvious merely cuz u dont agree with it, is considered bashing?? ur outlook is so skewed its not even funny..

How are you pointing out the obvious? You just seem to be saying negative things like Franco, like you’re envious of the guy.

I hope more Kuwaiti players have the opportunity to train & try out in England, I also hope they open proper football schools in Kuwait so we can raise the standards in this country and bring back some of the glory. Only good can come of this.

Actually, Bader is a professional player as he has been contracted to play internationally before and has played against professional players.

Spartan Nottingham currently isnt good enough to be in the premiership it’s a division lower (so our boys deserve a chance for trials) if they fail or if they pass both scenarios gives Arab players a gateway into professional football. I repeat Fawaz is not dumb (it’s only trials) hes just giving everyone a chance

That is true, he is giving them a chance, and they deserve that chance. After the success he has had with AlQadsia, I’m sure he knows what would be best for NF, even if it’s in a completely different league!

First day of week and reading such ignorant ppls comment !!

Mark I dunno how you handle such comments cos they just blow ur mind !!

seeing the amount of fan racism in football, i dont doubt that club owners intentionally select a majority of white players even though there is talent in every country that plays football internationally. so why not try out something new? remember jeremy lin?

You guys are a joke. Pure ignorance. How many teams do tryouts? Realmadrid? barca? manu? Qadsiya? NO ONE!!!! Scouts go around, they find players, they contact their bosses, and the player is either called over for a trial or bought if he already has a contract with another club. At the end of the day its a private institute that listens to no one but the owner; he’s paying therefore he’s the one thats risking it.
Pure ignorance!!! wasta, huh?! Its called free trade !!!

I think bader will be taken but he wont play in every game

You see having bader will increase the teams popularity in Kuwait, thats something they need to raise $$$ , fans will like the idea even though bader might not be the next zidane but he will have a great impact on the teams popularity here

To put an end to wasta discussion, if he was any good he would already get his chance. He would not need this type of chance. When they can pull out one Asamoah from the jungles of Uganda, Boateng from Ghana, Yaya Toure from Ivory Coast why cant they find Al-Mutawa in such a civilized place like Kuwait ?

Answer is simple.

for all the guys that say Al-Mutawa got his trail from wasta…He did get a trail previously from Malaga F.C. so i think him getting another one isnt by luck.

plus he is THE best player in kuwait…Cmon give the guy a chance for the love of the game!

Bader scored a header on his debut for nffc in a friendly match..so u guys continue talking Sh*t
