Kuwait Airways launches self-service check-in system

I just read that Kuwait Airways now has self check-in that includes boarding pass issuance AND baggage weighing. Previously you could on self check-in if you didn’t have any luggage just carryon but now it seems you can also drop off your bag yourself. source

I am afraid there may not be too many takers for it at KWI. Kuwait’s is essentially a heavily porter and house help driven and dependent society where the smallest of things involving the slightest of manual labour is serviced- be it getting the groceries out of the trunk or stocking the fridge or fetching water or getting the baggage off from the carousel, it’s all been taken care of and provisioned for by the Khadeema or the airport porter so don’t expect people taking to this DIY concept of check- in, like fish to water.

The only exception to this rule was yes, when we had a dozen odd DIY gas filling stations in Q8 for a while- I am guessing it was 20 years ago but then I think they cottoned on to the fact that most people in Kuwait are averse to doing manual work, and given that there is plentiful of cheap, unskilled imported labour any which way, here – they decided to bring back gas attendants to tank up the cars.
Unless there is a significant presence of Western expats in Kuwait going through Kuwait international, KU’s baggage check in kiosks will remain simply shiny toys; good to look at.
