Kuwait won a bronze medal! *UPDATED*

Fehaid Aldeehani won a bronze medal earlier today at the Olympic double trap event. The only other Olympic medal Kuwait ever won was back at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and it was again because of Fehaid. Congrats! [Link]

Update: Turns out Fehaid came in 4th NOT 3rd. I misread the Yahoo article. 4th doesn’t win him any medals but it’s still a very respectable ranking that puts Kuwait on the map.

It felt like he actually placed 3rd for a while then I realized that they were doing shoot outs. It’s understandable that some articles would mistaken that.

you did not misread it. the article initially stated 3rd. .but they must have updated it after realizing their mistake.

There were two third place ranked, and then they have an elimination shoot out. The same thing happened earlier where the first Arab medal was claimed by Qatar in a third place shoot out.

Unfortunately he missed a target at the second try. I watched it live.

“Although I can understand why you think 4th is good. In Kuwait, losing is something to celebrate.”

Really now? *rolleyes*

Put Kuwait on the map? I don’t think anyone cares who was placed fourth in a competition. I think Kuwait is pretty much ‘on the map’ already.

There goes our only chance of winning a medal in the Olympics (since he is the only Kuwaiti who has a realistic chance to win one).

He lost to Russia in the shoot out. Gold went to Great Britain, silver to Sweden and bronze to Russia. Kuwait was 4th by a slim margin!

Those first three countries pay TONS of money to suppert the sportsman of their countries. In Kuwait, none of these people play any of these sports as a profession, unlike the first three countries. Getting fourth is very very good when compared to what Kuwait provides to the sportman, and what the first three countries provide.

Yes, very good point. I am sure if he had the support that other countries provide, he would have had a podium finish.

ugh.. i was excited for just a moment when i read the title but then.. disappointment x( but 4th place is ofcourse not bad at all so im still hoping for the best 🙂

Actually you have all misinterpreted this game. The finals of this game will be played only tomorrow. Today was the qualifiers and Fehaid has qualified for the finals. So keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow. All the best to Fehaid and Kuwait.

Can I just point out the British guy does not get payed tons of money, in fact he lost his lottery funding.

He is actually coached and supported by Sheik Ahmed Al Maktoum of Dubai. Who he describes as his Dubai Father and best friend.

You just said it man, he’s coached and support by a Sheikh from Dubai. They also support those people heavily.

Congratulation !

But I feel becoming 4th is more heart breaking than being last.
He will be regretting till next Olympic. “I wish I had a bit more and would have won”

Kuwait came in fourth and its not all that bad. Sure no medal to show but to be up there among the top 05 Double Trap Olympian Shooters is an achievement in itself. I am a fan of his and watched it live and he held his own pretty impressively till the end. For a long time he was tied with Sweden who took silver and made every shot count. If not for the last few misses he was a shoe in for either the silver or the bronze. To think he lost by one point in a shoot out that’s impressive. Good on you Fahaid keep it up and God bless. You will definitely return home from Rio next time with a medal inshallah.

Update 6th August. Fehaid wins Bronze in Men’s Trap event after another shoot out against Australian Michael Diamond. Well done Fehaid after just losing out last week.
