Norwegian rats invade Kuwait

Is it only me or do these rats actually sound cute? But on a serious note, it looks like we need bigger cats.

Unless an immediate plan was drawn and followed strictly to get rid of the Norwegian rats, the rodents will keep on multiplying, causing an epidemic by the end of 2014 that the state will not be able to fight, Dr Samiya Al-Tobaikh, the head of the pests and rodents combat department at the Health Ministry, has warned.

Dr Al-Tobaikh said that this dangerous breed of rats was spreading at an alarming rate in various areas around Kuwait, namely Jleeb (74 per cent), Sulaibiya industrial area (71 per cent), Ardiya industrial area, Req’ee, Jahra industrial area and across the beaches at the Chalets area. Al-Tobaikh also warned that this particular species of rodents as big as a cat was highly dangerous since it carries and spreads plague, is clever and cannot be killed easily as it can quickly recognize many kinds of poisons.

“Seeing any food, they usually send a smaller younger volunteer to eat it and if the volunteer dies, the rats never approach that food,” she said, adding that these rats were such ‘good actors’ that they can fake death when hunted and wait it out till they are thrown out. She said if one rat is spotted in a house, that means that there could be 50 others hiding in and around that house.[Source]

Well, the other day i couldnt sleep so i have decided to go and try a place called classical in Fahaheel sea club since it was the only 24hr outdoor place were you can smoke shihsa in that area, so ordered a mint shisha and as soon as i started smoking i heard a strange sound, so i looked backwards and i saw i dinosaur i mean a Rat my god it was so big that i had to get the hell out the place and it was the Mr. Asbjørn the Narowegian Rat and no they cant cook and they dont look cute Mark:) next time you go to Fahaheel Ask for Mr.Asbjørn:)

thats what happens when they poison street cats =/ now see what have they done !!!! less cats more bad rats ….

I used to live with couple of bachelors in Salmiya back in 98-01, we had plenty of rats in our room, no matter how many we killed they would keep coming (we killed 12 rats in an hour one day and there were more) Then finally we got fed up and moved out, So yeah! these cute looking mofo’s not going anywhere I guess.

It took you three years to get fed up of the Rats??? where in Salmiya did u actually live that they kept coming back?? lol

If I find a Norwegian Rat I would just surrender my home to him and drive off. There’s no way on earth I can handle killing that thing.

I’ve been expecting this for years… back in the States, these things get big enough to steal (and eat) baby geese and kittens. For a start.

I saw this article in the Kuwait Times before work, and I was going to make a request that your KPATH contributor John to do a write up on rats in Kuwait. Surely some of those shelter dogs can be trained or put to work as Ratters?

I hope it is not there in Jleeb. Orelse before 2014 we expect an epidemic hit !

“She said if one rat is spotted in a house, that means that there could be 50 others hiding in and around that house.”

Wtf ~O.O~ !!!

Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?”
The Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!”

A head of department that needs a plan? Isn’t she suppose to be THE ONE with the plan!

Mark, i live nearby your area and sadly i saw one in my building last week. I was surprised to see such a huge rat coming out of nowhere..must do something about it

So let me explain how this all works.

First, someone conjures up a plan to make some money from the State. It usually involves some sort of public health threat. First it was swine flu, and before it the bird flu. And the mandatory vaccinations associated with it [ and the billions in dollars that followed 🙂 ]. So they can’t use the same theme again.
However, the rat invasion sounds a lot more interesting. For those of us old enough, this isn’t anything new. They had ‘rodent’ problems here before and measures were taken to irradicate the problem. Cats were introduced and they naturally controlled the rodent population.
So now, some group intentionally bread a large number of rats, and strategically released them in certain areas. Now that the rodent population exploded, government officials are seeking a solution. A group magically appears that has one but it will cost several million over several years to control the popluation.
All for your benefit and mine ofcourse

+1 definitely agree with you, plus the political climate is escalating, so when everyone is talking politics with nothing else to do a few rats could pull the tension away and would keep many distracted. @ibnturab

You want these rats gone ????????

Put he word out for every 50 dead Norwegian Rats presented to Kuwait Pest Control you get Chinese Take Out from Mahboula fully paid for courtusey of the Kuwait Govt. 😉

Every one wins..

The Egadis will stop flooding the malls and put their aggression to good use..

Decent women wont be bothered by sexually frustrated pimple assed ,porcupine haired Assholes..

Parking will be more available coz all the losers will be in the rat infested areas mentioned hunting rats

The Chinese take out business will boom and China’s Fores will sky rocket.

Most importantly no more rats 😉

Look up “Cobra Effect”. In India when they had a reward for every snake killed, people started farming snakes to get more of the reward 🙂

omg thoos rats r true there is this school next to mine where they had to shut down for a week because f the rats they found 2 and it was like crazy my friends causing if friend got a bite from the rat and know she has to take 5 injections a day and today in school the girls spotted one in the girlas bathroom guys im warning u if they bit u there is a chance that u can dye im not joking omg lol

LOL,how can it be 74% in jaleeb and 71% in sulibiya.Maybe they mistook some of the mallu’s and added them to the list.lol!

The solution is better disposal. We live in freaking desert. As long as people are clean and feed rats with their waste they will die from starvation. Let the rats be an analogy to our Kuwaiti future. When we run out of oil and we can’t afford food… Look at what will happen.

And fine the people who pollute out doors heavily. Do proper inspections on disposal for residential and commercial. Time to profit from this problem and fine people out the wazoo.

I want to see people becoming prostitutes next to the rats trying to pay off their fines for littering.

has anyone seen them floating dead on the beach shores in fahaheel.. or was it just me experiencing this on a romanantic walk with your mate on the beach.. and there goes beach swimming days aswell
