Jeep sound system

Alpine X001

Since I will be driving the Wrangler from now on due to my speeding tickets I’ve decided to upgrade the sound system. Marzouq recently upgraded his cars sound system and it made me realize how easy a process it could be to buy everything online.

I don’t have a really huge budget to start with so I decided to take it step by step and order the different components one at a time. The first thing I ordered was my head unit. There are only two brands I was considering, Blaupunkt and Alpine and after a bit of research I decided on the Alpine iDA-X001 (pictured above) which I’ve had my eyes on since before it was released. Its a digital media player that connects to the iPod and allows you to control it using a full color ipod like display. The only downside in the unit is it doesn’t have a CD player but since my music is all ripped onto my iPod anyways its really not a big problem. I found it on Crutchfield for $336 and that includes all the cabling, adapters and harnesses needed to install the unit into the Wrangler.

Next step is replacing the speakers followed by getting an amp and finally some kind of subwoofer enclosure that doesn’t eat up too much space from my tiny trunk. I am looking at JL Audio for the speakers and either Rockford Fosgate or JL Audio for the amps. The subwoofer enclosure will probably be from some generic brand but the sub itself will be either Rockford Fosgate or JL Audio.

If you are thinking on upgrading your car sound system, Crutchfield is a great place to start. You just tell them what car you have and they will tell you what fits. [Link]

Alpine is always the way to go for a pro headunit, i’ve bought two from the before and i was never disapointed..everything was amazing even on my stock speakers(before i change them) the sound got 10 times clearer and louder. as for amps u could also consider JBL they have some gr8 amps..for a sub u could get the JBL gti series which is amazing..or if ur a bit low like u said on $$ consider Audiobahn i bought two 12 inch subs last year and i couldnt be happier with the sound quality. regarding the enclosure it depends what u need..i tried both ported and sealed, ported was better, since its boomier and am a bassss junkie.. for any more info or tips just shoooot. i can email u the pics of the audio install that i did myself for my car u’ll be shocked 😉

You should look for slim subwoofers which are available from Rockford Fosgate and Kenwood, they will really do the job for you and they aren’t think at all.

Speakers, I would recommend the ones I have if they fit. The sound system makes a difference!

Marzouq: I am not a fan of Boston Acoustics. Will check out the slim subs from rockford fosgate.. I am not a fan of Kenwood either.

Damon: no license got suspended.. yet

K: how much can a head unit weigh? Should cost just KD4 shipping…

Punky: I know thats what I’ve heard

Mark finding an enclosure or a stealth sub enclosure like some call it is easy and simple, but the question is do u want to sacrifice sound quality? u have to put on ur mind that basically the bigger the sub enclosure the better it will sound.. really depends on what u have on mind. in ur case i would either get a stealth enclosure like:

or

just double check if they fit ur wrangler.

great site!!! was searching something about some brands in Kuwait. keep up the good work. It helped me a lot and was nice to read. Really nice blog.

I have the same radio by the way. Bought it from sonic electronix in the state. was around 200 plus shipping. They are cheap. If you buy a lot it works out with the shipping.

Thanks
Alex
