Late night run

cone

For some reason 2 nights ago I decided I would start running every night and today was my first run. I left my house around 11:30PM, 3 and a half minutes later I was out of breath and feeling all dizzy and disoriented. I knew I was out of shape but I didn’t know things were this bad. After taking like a 5 minute break I decided I would run back home. 2 minutes later I was taking another break. When I finally made it home my total running time without the breaks was 6 and a half minutes.

Last time I went running was 2 years ago and back then I could run for like 40 minutes. I wasn’t in the best of shape but compared to the state I am in now…

I got home 20 minutes ago and took a shower and I have yet to catch my breath. I am still breathing heavily and I am feeling kinda dizzy. I feel numb. At least my sneakers still work.

Start by just walking briskly on the first night, and then each night gradually increase your speed from the previous night. If you try to go straight from nothing to running, your body will get exhausted quickly, and you’ll discourage yourself.

Mark maybe you should take the intiative to start thinking about what you put in your mouth

Personally, I love the amount of rubbish on the street as shown in the picture. I always wonder why people from kuwait always backlash when somebody says something nasty about it.. The sad thing is that they them self disgrace it’s surface with the amount of rubbish left

Foolish

Plus mark I think your body ached because you didn’t stretch before attempting to run

Lol…Mark, do what Kleio says. You can’t go straight into a full run – your body wont be prepared for it, especially if its been 2 years.

I would walk briskly around a set area for around 7 days. Then during the 2nd week do the same area but at a ‘jogging’ pace. By the 3rd week you should have a bit of stamina and can start pushing your body to take longer and faster runs….however, by that time most people would have given up!

Good luck.

Trini I actually eat better now then I did 2 years ago. I have cut down on a lot of junk food.

BTW the picture was taken over a year ago. There is actually more rubbish in Salmiya now then there was back when the picture was taken.

Try walking first. Start out with 15 minutes, then 30, etc. Then start walking faster. Eventually you’ll be able to jog again. Remember to warm up before running. You don’t want your blood pressure going up too quickly or else you get dizzy.

i dont have a problem walking. i walk from one end of salmiya to the other end on a regular basis because i enjoy walking. i dont get tired or exhausted walking. running is just a different ball park for me.

also i did stretch before my run, i think i spent more time stretching then i did running lol

Definitely agree with the gradual pace increase. Also, never stop moving. Even if you’re tired from a run, don’t stop moving, keep walking. I think as Stinni said, it has to do with your blood pressure jumping up and down. Ya don’t wanna get dizzy.
You streched, that’s awesome cuz I usually forget, and them I’m like, dope.

Thats what happened to me when i started but what i did was i walked very fast for about 10 minutes, then id run for 5 then repeat the walking then slowly increase the running time..

do that a couple of days then you will feel better when you run..

This is like get-in-shape month, everyone is starting to hit the gyms this month, hehe i think marzouq started this, Thanks !!

Anyways, Good Luck..

Hey mark… being the experienced runner that i am, i think i could help you out… First of all you started running when it was cold, so your lungs are really ready for it, i guess the air becomes slightly less dense, i’m not sure tho. Other than that, you should try very very light jogging or talking a brisk 2-3 minute walk to warm you body up. then stop, do some stretching, but dont just stand there gasping for air because if your as unfit as you say you are you will get “lacitc acid” build up, thats when you feel your muscles are stiff… so ya, do some streches and walk for like 10 meters in between streches. once your done, go for a light jog, dont worry about how silly you look, u need to gradually build up your endurance. and dnot try to go for a +20 minute run, make it 10-15… stick to it for a week, then thnik about inreasing it by 5 mins. the most important thing is to learn how to pace yourself. drink a lot of water during the day, and have a banana about an hour or so befor running. and please strech well after your done to prevent cramps and sorness in the morning.

and i’d like to recommend a shoe.. The Asics Gel Kayano… best running shoes on earth, pricy tho.. 40KD.. bs i love them.

Good luck buddy… wish you all the best šŸ™‚

thanks ay kay, will try your tips out.
i currently have the Reebok Premier Road Lite which are really comfy and light. I don’t like the asics, atleast not how they look like lol

I suggest you go for morning runs x10 better than late night ones, warm up, then jog.
I go from 5-5:30AM, I’m in it for the physical stamina so I go for log distance over speed.
Start slowly and go for longer distances as you progress, but staying within the same time limit.

that would be possible since I walk geo at 5:30 but I usually come back to sleep. If I go running at 5:30 and I am done by 5:36 what do I do till 8:30 when I am supposed to go to work?
