Making Hot Dogs at Home

Burnt Hot Dogs

After my post on hot dogs, Equalizer from Gastronomica recommended I try the following:

you seriously want the best hot dogs that u can prepare in 5 minutes?

Wrangler smoked hotdogs
Bun
Relish
Saurkraut
Brown Mustard
Ketchup (optional)
Chopped Onions

those are available in Sultan Center ready made except the chopped onions

Pan grill the hot dogs in butter. Place in bun wrap in paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds. Add condiments and enjoy!

So I went to Sultan Center, I couldn’t find Wrangler hot dogs but I found Eckrich Jumbo Franks. I also got brown mustard, hot dog buns and onions. I don’t like relish or saurkraut.

I tried to pan grill the hot dog in butter which I figured meant heat a pan, put some butter in it and then put the hot dogs. I think I messed up because I ended up burning the hot dogs nearly instantly.

Three hot dogs gone to waste but I still had more in the pack. I decided to play it safe. I ended up boiling water in a pot, then throwing in three more hot dogs, closed the cover and then removed the pot from the heat and left it for 9 minutes. When it was done I took the hot dogs, placed them in the buns and then put the mustard and onions on them.

The result? BORING! The hotdogs tasted average, the buns were dry, I think I put too much onions and maybe not enough mustard. In Conclusion… I am going to stick to eating hot dogs in restaurants because I can’t cook to save my life.

boiling them is the best way for me but i dont get it why did u take the pot out from the heat?
boil the water but the franks and let the suffer for 10 mins under the heat and ur done
the fast way is just to microwave them each for a min and ur done …….. oh boy o miss the ball park franks u just cant beat them… try nathans i heared the open in qadsiyah and the deliver and thier quite fast good hot dog but thier bun is bad 🙁

Dude you messed up big time!! haha

Ok I dont have to be too specific for simple logical tasks but i will add a few pointers here!

1- Butter must be melted on the pan on medium heat and then adding the hotdog to crisp it up.

2- By wrapping the hotdog in the bun with a paper towel and microwaving it, makes it moist just the way it should.

Its very simple and nothing to it.

P.S. I said Wranglers, and never ever go with Americana or Khazan, both are mini mortadellas and not hotdogs.

All you “chefs” out there ! There is so much fat a hotdog that you do not need oil or butter to crisp.Just heat up the pan and through the dogs in and rotate as they get grilled and change color. You must stand by them all the time,,,,,just like an automatic turning gril.
Enjoy !

Dude, use lil’ bit of sunflower oil to grease, and then heat the pan. When you toss in the ‘dogs, keep the flame to a medium & standy by turning ’em ‘dogs till they look handsome. Oh, and open ’em all kitchen windows. It might get a bit heavy.

Dude, use the wrangler smokehouse’s, French’s Spicy Brown Mustard (they come in the squeezable pack’s) and ketchup, cheddar cheese slices.

1. Boil the hotdog to just before it cooks
2. Pull it out and put it on an electric grill (or the grill the use for toast, it’ll cook in it’s own juices)
3. Cook it till it’s done, don’t let it harden it should be firm but not too firm (No porn jokes guys seriously)
4. Before you take it out throw a slice of cheese on it, leave it to just about melt. Heat the bun right next to it on the grill.
5. Put the hot dog wrapped in cheese in the bun, add Ketchup and mustard to taste (I like to put about 2 lines of mustard on it and 1 of ketchup, thats how I measure it, try 1 at first of each and don’t squeeze the ketchup bottle too hard, it’ll just be too much). If you don’t like it..get in touch with me I’ll send you some, cuz it’s probably due to the fact you seriously can’t cook 😛 Let me know how it works out 🙂

Sultan Center is inconsistent, so you might find them at Soug sharg, but dont count on them, and you can always use their Ask service to bring it down for you. What i like about those is that they are perfectly smoked and course ground so its super juicy. Hotdogs are best grilled, but on charcoal, and no one has the time for that all the time.

Boiled hotdogs? Yuck. I agree with some of the others, the best way is to grill them. Remember always to makes some slits so that they don’t burst when you grill or pan-fry them. I would also use cooking spray or a drop of oil in the pan and not butter. I think butter would give them a weird taste. Ikea has a grill pan that you can use on your stove top to give them those grill-like lines. If you don’t have a yard for a grill, DeLonghi makes indoor grills.

also i dont think u r supposed to boil the hotdogs u r supposed to heat them with water. thats why the right way is to fill a pot with water and once it reaches boiling point u drop the hotdogs in it, close the cover of the pot and then take it off the heat.

7-9 minutes later you have your self nice hot hotdogs. its like the guys in the hot dogs stands and ikea, they dont boil the hotdogs they just heat them up in the water.

The wranglers if not in Salmiya try sharg. Give my way a shot trust me. 😛 I used to hate home made hot dogs till I decided to mess around with it and 3 failed attempts later..Hot dog Heaven 😛

Hey all, just breezed by the articles here and decided to comment about cooking hotdogs. Generally boiling is considered to be the worst way to cook a hot dog. it sucks all the flavor out through osmosis, and they become water logged. unless your using a flavored broth, obviously the water itself isnt going to have taste so waterlogging it isnt going to make it taste better. steaming prevents water-logging, you can put a ‘base’ in the pan with the water to hold the hotdogs above the water, with the lid on, and it’ll steam em. stadium venders steam their red hots/dogs like this. when pan frying you use a lower heat. butter burns at a low temperature, to stop this add some normal oil with it, lower the heat or used clarified butter (which is just the oils of the butter, the cream and solids removed, which is what burns first.) I wouldnt suggest slitting a hot dog, as this will allow its naturaul juices from leaking out, thus losing flavor. If you sorta sneak up on it with the heat, you’ll be able to heat it up without it losing the flavor. flame or grilling is obviously harder cause flame is hot, period. although once mastered it does give it a great flavor. btw, using flavored borth and simmering the hot dogs can make em taste pretty awesome. when cooking realize there are other settings to the burners then full throttle high. 😛
anyways hope it helps, most prolly know this stuff anyways, but hope it helps someone.

of COURSE your hotdog was just “boring”…. rofl… u didnt follow the directions at all… u just picked a hotdog.. boiled it… added the things u normally do…and expected it to taste different?

ok..

first and formost… Wrangler hotdogs are NOT like any other hotdogs.. i cant stand hotdogs…but i love wranglers

second… u DONT boil it.. .u can grill it… fry it… heck.. bake/broil it if u want.. but dont boil it (boiling is for boring hotdogs)

third… steaming the hotdog in the bun (the microwave part) will give it a moist and juicy flavor… (tho i personally prefer my bun toasted/grilled)

finally… condiments.. put whatever u like on it.. or put nothing at all….when u have the perfect dog to build with the toppings are just ‘bonus’

summary … go find a store that sells Wranglers… and enjoy 🙂
