Review: EasyHotel Dubai

On my trip to Dubai I decided to stay at EasyHotel. I had a good experience with them on my last trip to London so was interested to see how the hotel was in Dubai. What attracted me to the hotel was the fact rooms start at just KD7.5 a day (99dhms). Yes KD7.5 a day! I thought that was ridiculously cheap and specially for a hotel in Dubai. I looked for reviews online but couldn’t find anything and the only pictures I found were the PR shots. I was a bit worried to book a room but figured what the hell its only for 3 days so worse comes to worse it would be over quickly.

The hotel is located in the Jabel Ali free zone which is around 40 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Dubai Mall. I rented a car from the airport and headed with my GPS towards Easy Hotel. Even though the software on my GPS is the 2010 map it seems since the map got released the roads in Dubai changed because the GPS made me take the wrong exit and I spent 40 minutes trying to get back to the main Sheikh Zayed road. Once you find the hotel though its pretty easy to get there.

My first impression with the hotel was positive. The building was very clean and simple on the outside with ample parking underneath. The reception was also very clean with a few vending machines on one side and some computers connected to the internet on the other. I should mention this in case you didn’t know already but Easy Hotel is a no frills hotel in the same way how Jazeera and Fly Dubai are budget airlines. The rooms are cheap but that’s because you get just the basics and you pay for extra stuff. The Easy Hotel I previously tried in London was also extremely tiny (see review here) but if all you care about is a place to sleep at night then you really won’t mind it all.

The rooms at Easy Hotel Dubai are pretty big compared to the London branch. There was ample space around the bed , a flat screen tv (with just 4 channels), a small open closet with shelves and hangers. There was even a little desk next to the window and a small safe to put your items in. The bathroom wasn’t that bad as well, the sink was kinda small but the shower area was pretty big.

As I mentioned with Easy Hotel you pay for extras. For example the fact I wanted a room with a window.. thats an extra cost. If you don’t care about a window then you pay less for the room. TV remote? You pay for that as well (although we were given one for free), extra towels? you pay, Internet? you pay, you want your room cleaned? you pay, water? you pay, room service? its a vending machine in the lobby. Surprisingly I didn’t have to pay to park my car at the hotel!

But with all that I loved staying there and in the end my room with extras came out to just KD10 a night which is still incredibly cheap and this is DUBAI!!. The hotel was super clean, the Internet was fast and the staff were very friendly. From now on that’s the hotel I will be staying in when I fly there.

Things to keep in mind though, you need to rent a car since the hotel is 30 minutes away from places like Dubai Mall. There are no cabs outside or near the hotel so you would have to order one and I don’t know how long that would take. There is a metro nearby but not walking distance. There is also nothing around the hotel, nothing you can walk to. But, because the hotel is so cheap you can splurge on a rental, my Toyota Yaris from Budget cost me just KD15 a day with all the insurance, gas and crossing 4 electronic toll systems a day. Would I recommend EasyHotel? Yes I would.

last time i listened to you and went to easyhotel in london and it was the biggest mistake of my life. it was dirty… dirty… DIRTY.

The bedsheets had blood on them, the shower was broken, bathroom sink was not functioning properly, there was no place to put my suitcase other than the floor… you said there were three coat hangers but there was only one if i recall correctly… and the walls were so then i could hear the people in the room next to mine speak… heck i couldn’t walk in the corridor if there was another person in it!

worst experience ever… and it wasn’t cheap. maybe if it was cheap it would have been worth it.

3azeez there are 3 or 4 EasyHotels in London you might have gone to the wrong one. I also never mentioned anything about coat hangers but I did clearly say and showed pictures of how tiny the room was. So if you were going there expecting anything different from what I clearly stated or showed that’s really not my fault. I also paid just KD20 a night which is super cheap compared to the other hotels I had checked.

Frankom Did enjoy his trip to Dubai, some people enjoy thier trips by saving money, but in my case when i was in London, I took the Gatwick Express and didn’t even want a cheaper option.

To some people money is not an issue specially when they travel, they travel to enjoy it and relax and not consider how much will they spend, and others check every penny here and their and to some of them it’s actually smart/fun to save money.

I remember watching a documentary/series about the launch of easy cruise…Not sure which came first…

The idea is great. You pay for the basic service, and everything else is extra.

Mark, love the blog but DAMN your cheapskate. ;p

Whatever works for you though booboo, you probably don’t like spending most of your vacation in a hotel, I personally enjoy the room-service and hanging out poolside πŸ˜‰

for 200dhs you could have booked a medium, clean, SUITE in royal suites hotel and it’s in bur dubai.
There are a bunch of cheapo, decent hotels in Dubai. What you’re really paying for at the easyhotel is the dumb GIMMICK.

There were a lot of other hotels I had checked but they were all either fully booked for Gulfood or their prices were no longer cheap because of the expo. I think the only reason i managed to find cheap rooms at easy is because no one heard about them.

Oh great, now everybody knows! The reason you can’t find any EasyHotel reviews online is that loyal customers like myself want to keep it a secret, so they keep those prices down! Have stayed there 3-4 times since they opened last summer, and will be back again.

Contrary to BHD’s claim, it’s more than a gimmick – it’s not a ‘cheapo, decent’ hotel, but a perfectly clean, well-run (so far) hotel for business travelers who don’t need all the extras.

As you said, though – you really need to have a car if you stay there. And it’s a bit of a commute to ‘old Dubai’ (at least it’s against the flow of rush hour traffic) – it’s more convenient for business in Jebel Ali or other parts of ‘New Dubai’.

P.S.: No, I don’t work for EasyHotel or Benihana! πŸ™‚

i dont know, the place looks creepy..like where a serial killer would go to pick his victims…i dont know, i feel like the hotel is part of the whole traveling experience and a “low price” should not be the main factor in choosing the hotel…u dont have to stay at Burj al 3arab…but u dont have to stay 30 minutes away from civilization either in a cheap hotel

People have different priorities. I would rather spend my money shopping instead of sitting in my hotel room. And since when did 30 minutes become far? Easy Hotel is actually a great hotel to stay in but it seems they need to be more expensive so that people like them?

it might be fun to drive for 30 minutes in canada..but in a small, confined, highly congested area like dubai, driving is mostly an unpleasant experience..not sure many people would like 30 minutes of THAT..
i dont know why ur getting defensive..it might be a clean hotel..but the rooms look like they belong in a hospital rather than a hotel..
if they can make it look like the address for example, and keep it at 10 kd, ill go there every time GLADLY..and recommend it to my friends neighbors family tribe coworkers etc etc etc..
but ur right about one thing tho, people do have different priorities when they travel

Spartan: Surprisingly there was no traffic at all from EasyHotel to Dubai Mall. I was actually surprised at how empty the roads were the whole time I was there.

I’m not getting defensive here but just because the hotel is cheap and you wouldn’t stay at it that doesn’t mean it’s not a good hotel. You prefer The Address but that doesn’t mean everyone should pay a boatload and stay at The Address as well.

hahaha @ boatload…the address is not that expensive dude…its a lot more than 10 kd tho πŸ˜›

well if they manage to keep their rooms clean then i guess its a good option for people who dont care much for the most basic level of luxury and/or ambiance and dont mind the hospital-like appearance..also people who would like to test their luck with dubai traffic

The Address starts at KD95 a day. That’s 9 times the price. Let me tell you what you can do with that much money.

For 1 weeks stay at The Address Dubai you could:

Fly to Dubai with FlyDubai, stay a week at Easy Hotel, come back to Kuwait, fly to London with British Airways, stay a week at Easy Hotel there and come back, and then fly back to Dubai for another week, come back to Kuwait and still have money left over to fly back to Dubai one more time for another week.

Don’t know about you but I would rather fly to Dubai 3 times and stay a week there each time and fly to London and stay a week there instead of staying at The Address for just 1 week πŸ˜‰

woah…all of that with kd 665?? r u planning on NOT eating and hithc hiking the whole time?? πŸ˜›

i really hope ur not taking ur wife on any of ur super “thrifty” trips =D

Spartan no need to get upset, like i said some people might prefer to spend a week in DUbai at a good hotel while other people like me would rather use that money to travel a lot more often and to more destinations.

Mark,
Post GPS Co-Ordinates,
Also let us know how much did u spend for Car Rental
In Dubai, TAXI is prefered usually becauase finding parking is big prob

they have GPS coordinates on the easyhotel site. Car was KD15 but i am sure you can find cheaper. Didn’t have problem finding parking since all i went to was hotel and dubai mall. when i went to the world trade center i took the metro from dubai mall.

4 a budget traveller this one is a good deal! Thanks mark for the review. My only problem is transpo since I still struggle driving in Middle East

Have just got back from Dubai where I stayed for 2 nights in the Easy Hotel. Have stayed in one in London previously but this was much better. Got the metro to Jebel Ali and it’s a 10 minute walk from the station (instructions on Easy Hotel website). Just make sure you have a) your printed reservation info for the security men at Jebel Ali station and b) any snacks or drinks you may need as there are no shops and the vending machine was broken.

Overall, a good, budget option. I’d recommend it as long as you aren’t rolling in from the pub at all hours! Best bargain of the trip though has to be the day pass on the metro – 16 AED for unlimited travel!

Are you guys kidding me? Four free TV channels only, if you want more channels you must pay extra. To use the internet you must pay extra.
After 10 AM you can’t have one coffee in the hotel. The coffee machine in most of the time is broken.
The staff did not clean the rooms daily.
Some guests are cooking in the rooms and in the hallway smells.
Is that a good hotel??? Sorry, but i don’t think so.

Mark,

i have some question if you don’t mind πŸ™‚

– Do they have small fridges inside rooms?
– 15KD for car including gas according to your consumption you mean?

Hi Mark,

Great review. I’m currently considering booking the Easyhotel. I’m also gonna need a car in Dubai so I would like to know two things from you.

– How does is work with the security gate? Is it possible to access the Jebel Ali Free Zone 24/7?

– How does is work with Salik/toll bridges and rental cars? Do you pay the Salik toll all together when returning the rental car?

Kind regards,

Jeroen

– I think the gate is 24 hours but not sure. You could ask the hotel.

– You rent a car that comes with this device. Once you return the car they can tell how many times you’ve crossed the toll gates and they will add it to your total

Hey mark

Is the hotel safe , if only 2 girls would be staying ? Plus could you tell what facilities are included in the room ? And whats the best way to commute from the hotel apart from cab ?

The hotel was clean but it’s at the outskirt of an industrial area. As long as you don’t go for a midnight walk in the neighborhood it should be pretty safe. I used a car rental to commute back and forth to the hotel. The rooms have tv, ac, power sockets, phone, decently sized bathroom and that’s about it. oh and I think there was a safe as well. in the lobby you have a vending machine you have wifi in the rooms but not free.

Thanks mark !
Also in case you reach the hotel before the check in time was there any provision for just keeping your luggage at the hotel ? would you happen to know how much they charged for the same ?

the rate of the hotel goes up when the demand is high. i got the room for 140 AED not 99 AED as they advertise. if canceled they will not return the money. they will charge cancellation fees and remaining amount we can use for next stay until 1 year.

My first impression of this hotel was good. It is indeen clean the first day I came, and stayed for 10 days. They seldom clean the room from then and sometimes forget to tidy the room everyday. Ive read their rules and they do it once every seven days or else you pay aed60. Here’s my review:

PRO’s

1. Clean
2. Silent
3. Helpful “Filipina” staff members

CONS

1. Airconditioning System

I got very disappointed by their standard of keeping a uniform temperature of only until 22 degrees celcius, No matter what adjument youll make, itll stay in that temp. I called the reception and the answer was, it was their standard temp. First of all, Hotels regardless if its a 1 star hotel, should keep in mind that it is their prioprity to keep the guests comfortable. Everyone has a temperature requirement and mine is 16 degrees, anything higher than that can disrupt my sleep had I taken a good one which unfortunately did not happen. This is the most basic of a hotel service which even motels and cheap roadway inns can offer to their guests. Clean and Comfortable. In this case, it was clean and very uncomfortable, so its insane. Given the fact that this is Dubai, a middle east emirate which is naturally hot in temperature, the hotel shouldve at least kept a priority of the temperature as its basic service. Plus aed120 a day is no cheap rate at all! It is affordable and quite cheaper compared to other hotels but I dont think I got what i paid for.,its less than what I expected. not comfortable at all.

2. LOCATION

Given the fact that its cheaper, this hotel is located far from the city where you have to get to the train before 11pm so you can ride back to the hotel or else youll end up paying aed70 to a taxi. its a free zone so its not accessible, youll get through a hell hole before you can make it there. What youd have to pay for the cab, train and the time you travel, should be reason why this hotel should be cheap., the guest comfort should never be jeopardized

3. The first night I came in, I requested for an extra pillow as theirs are quite thinner., 2 night after, when I got in, I noticed it was missing, I called the front desk and asked about it. They said they got it due to the shortage of supply. I understand this is a one-star hotel but it should not be an excuse to just barge in a rented room getting something from it without the guest being informed about it. I mean, I requested it, I should own it for the duration of my stay but i felt neglected and unrespected with that action. No one called me to ask for permission which I would understand if it needed to go. Funny how they manage to get that pillow but forgot to collect the garbage from my room. Very annoying and disappointing. The Indian Guy in the reception who attended to my concern was polite and I Did not blame him for that setback, he said he was sorry and I accepted it. he said he will just file a report about it.

1-10, if i rate my stay there it would be a staggering 3! I would never check back in there unless I see positive changes in those areas of concerns. If the management reads this blog, please make sure your guests are comfortable. This is the essence of hospitality management. I need not ask for any luxury but a GOOD SLEEP. The temperature and your so called standards are beyond disappointing and it loses my temper.

I meant no harm to your reputation; I wish you do the same as well, if not for the guests, well atleast to your establishment. Thank you very much!
