Old Gazelle Club Demolished

Not sure when this happened, but the Gazelle Club Facebook group yesterday shared photos of where Gazelle Club used to be located and the buildings have now all been demolished and cleared. They did leave the pier on the other hand which is pictured above.

Gazelle Club was a very popular beach resort in Kuwait back in the 60s and up until the 1990 Gulf War. During the Gulf War the resort was badly damaged and it was never rebuilt again. I’ve posted and shared photos before and after photos on the blog before and you can check those out [Here]

But, I just realized while writing this post that there are a few photos of the club which I had acquired from the KOC Archive which I never shared before. So, I’m also sharing those photos below.

I worked on the Refinery and lived there from 1967 to 1970. Spent so many very Happy times at The Gazelle Club and recently found an original Red plate with the flower on. Will try and see if I can get a picture uploaded of the plate! Fabulous memories 💕

In 1974 when I arrived in Kuwait, right after I got married, I lived in one of the motel units for 5 months. My father-in-law was the CFO at the Gazelle Club. It was such an amazing Club. I loved the parrot at the entrance who always treated the members with Marhaba, always. Some of the club managers, used to teach that poor parrot some pretty crass swear words too. It used to be so funny. Very, Very fond memories. I actually learnt how to swim in the salt water Gazelle Club. Mrs. Brindley had taught me. Since then I have moved to Canada and per chance came across your blog, Mark. I used to go fishing with Miss Moody al Mulla, many times. And then enjoy the hamour prepared in the Club kitchen the very same afternoon. Also enjoyed many collage sandwiches too. To this day, I remember the taste of the all those foods.

Between 1965 and 1971 my mum used to take me, my brother and sister to the Gazelle Club once a week when we were in Kuwait during school holidays. I have such fond memories of the place and have a pic somewhere of me on one of the trampolines. We used to jump off the end of the pier, sail from it, swim out to it.
We bowled in the bowling alley, ate club sandwiches in the restaurant, swam in the pool.
Really enjoyed these evocative photos, thank you.

Hello, I am reading the book “Flash” by DUCHAUSSOIS, CHARLES. From what he says, she worked at the Club in the 60s, for a man named Ksres. The book is very interesting. I usually read travel books and search for information on the Internet. Thanks for the pictures!
