Oak and Smoke

Over the weekend I finally got to pass by Oak and Smoke and try the place out. Previously they only had delivery, but last month they opened up a new location in Shuwaikh and I’ve been meaning to pass by ever since.

For those of you that have been to the original RAW sushi place in industrial Shuwaikh, you’ll recognize the Oak and Smoke location since they took over the old RAW. BUT, they also took over the whole basement and that’s where the main restaurant is located. Getting down there is an experience which I think adds a lot to the place. The entrance to Oak and Smoke is through an alleyway which was softly lit with a red glow. Once we walked into the alleyway we started following a guy until we got into a large industrial elevator. With a press of a button we started going down and it felt like we were about to enter a club. The fact they were able to turn a simple thing as entering the restaurant into a very instagrammable moment is super smart and something a lot of their customers will share. After the short ride down the lift we walked into the restaurant which I think looks amazing. The ceiling had vintage metal ceiling tiles, the walls looked aged, there were two fake backlit windows and also beautiful chandeliers. I think it’s one of the coolest looking spots in Kuwait.

Oak and Smoke’s menu is pretty small with six starters and two mains. We ordered Tri-Tip for starters which is composed of thinly sliced beef and arugula over a horseradish cream, as well as some Vietnamese hot wings and then beef ribs and brisket for our mains. I didn’t have the wings but the Tri-Tip was good and kept us patient until our main dishes arrived. I’ll make this quick, just go there and order the ribs. Seriously, maybe with some soda but you’ll be more than satisfied with just ribs. It was just too good, super juicy and flaked off the bone so easily. We were 5 and we downed nearly 3KG of ribs in just a few minutes, and that was right after going through three orders of brisket!

The only thing I’d avoid at Oak and Smoke is their dessert which was a dish that combined of what looked like canned fruit served over white cream. They’d have a better dessert if they just served a jar of Nutella with a spoon. Other than the dessert there really isn’t anything to complain about. Pricewise, we were five people and ended up paying around KD18 each but that included 4 orders of brisket, 2.7KG of ribs, 2 plates of hot wings, 2 plates of tri-tip, fries, dessert, and drinks. If you’re looking for a new restaurant to try out I’d highly recommend experiencing Oak and Smoke. They take reservations so better call ahead just to be safe. They’re on instagram @oakandsmoke and you’ll find their number and link to their location there.

i tried it the other day and it was bland and overpriced. lacked smoke flavor. their ribs (delivery) were the best in kuwait when they first started. sad to see it become this poor quality. their brisket is bad for a brisket. smokeme has the best brisket but their ribs are worse than oak and smoke.

we need more bbq places

Ive been having oak and smoke for a few years now and I’ve tried all the other bbq shops which sell ribs/brisket here in kuwait, including the chain restaurants like T.G.I.F., Ruby Tuesdays (not recommended) and Ive also had smokeme and flaming ribs. To add to that, Ive lived in the US for 6 years and I can safely say that I know what good smoked meat should taste like. OakandSmoke have the best ribs and brisket in kuwait hands down. I think you just had a bad day where it was bland and Im sure if you have mentioned it to their management they would have been adamant to fix it for you. Also, their prices are very reasonable bob,go home ya drunk 😂

Best BBQ place in Kuwait hands down!
The owner Mubarak was there when I visited and even had a chat with us. He studied in Texas and that’s where he learned to BBQ, which adds a lot of authenticity to the place.
I will visit again soon!

Oak and Smoke has THE BEST bbq in all of Kuwait. Hands down. The ribs are fall off the bone delicious! You won’t find that anywhere else. Someone said the food is bland? What Oak and Smoke did you dine at?! Lol The food I have had multiple times was flavorful each time I have had it. No complaints from this Texan 😉

One of the worst dine-in experience I unfortunately ever had. The atmosphere made me so nauseous even just remotely thinking about it makes me want to puke. The food was meh. And oh my gosh don’t even get me started on the location… what in the fricking frick was the owner thinking? This place reeks of try-hard hipster vibes. The music was so loud JFC. I had to use my phone’s flashlight to see the menu. And why is it so expensive? half-a-rack of ribs yes, a half-a-RACK of ribs is around $15 @ Goodwood (US). Never going there again. I feel bad for the owner, but, it is what it is. I rate my experience 3.5/10. 3 for the lift, it was kinda cool.

300F is way better, located at Tilal Complex. The owner has an Instagram account (BBQKW), he knows his way around meat, and you do not need noise-canceling headphones to hear or an outdoor LED lights to see the menu.

I don’t think we’re talking about the same place that’s for sure. Music wasn’t loud at all, the place was very well lit so you could see the menu without issues, the location is probably the best thing about the place not sure why you don’t like it… unless you’re actually involved with 300F which is why you’re trashing these guys hard.

First, I am not associated with 300F in any way, shape, or form and have only been there twice. Secondly, I’m not trashing “these guys hard.” You have to understand that as a blogger your experience will ultimately be different than mine or any of your reader’s. Let your friends go without you, and you will see that it is actually what I have stated. I actually took pictures of my visit (I can link them if you want), too bad did not take a video. Lastly, the only reason I have mentioned 300F is that it was not mentioned by anyone on this board.

Trash talk competition – check

Namedrop your restaurant – check

Mention location of restaurant – check

Link social media – check

Put name of restaurant in username – oops

Get bent 300F, you’re going to have to be more subtle than that

I’m not Associated with 300F, nor do I know the owner personally. The only reason I put 300F is that it was not mentioned by any other commenter. And the first comment said we need more BBQ places. Believe it or not, that is the truth. And as I mentioned before, I actually feel bad for the owner of Oak&Somke. This is not some conspiracy theory, I’m just a reader who went to a place the author suggested, that I did not like and wrote my opinion about it and suggested another restaurant in the process. I’m not here to start any beef *heh* with anyone.

I’d skip everything and go for just the ribs and the rice dish, together they’re like a western version of “machboos la7am”. I wasn’t keen on the brisket

I liked the location even if its a bit of a trek; it felt like an adventure and it obviously didn’t deter people, the restaurant was packed!

But yes the music was too loud, and the playlist needs a rethink
