Chili Pepper is a new Mexican restaurant that recently opened up by the same guys behind the shawerma place Slice. My friends and I headed there on Thursday night thinking it was a proper dine-in Mexican restaurant but once we got there we realized it was actually a fast food place.
The entrance to Chili Pepper is on the ground floor but as soon as you enter you need to go down a flight of stairs since the actual restaurant is located in the basement. The place had a bunch of tables downstairs as well as the ones located outside the main entrance so finding a place to sit should never be a problem. Ordering is simple with the process is split into three steps:
Step 1 – Choose a Type
Burrito
Burrito Bowl
Salad
Hard Tacos (2pcs)
Soft Tacos (2pcs)
Quesadilla
Step 2 – Choose a Protein
Chicken KD3.150
Steak KD3.350
Barbacoa KD3.350
Shrimp KD3.500
Vegetarian KD2.750
Step 3 – Choose the Salsa
Sour Cream KD0.200
Pico de Gallo
Corn Salsa
Green Chili
Red Chili
Guacamole KD0.600
I ended up going with the soft tacos which come as two small pieces so I had one of them chicken and the other barbacoa (lamb). Between the two I preferred the chicken but the soft tacos were just too small and not very filling at all. When I passed by the second time today for lunch I chose the burrito and really thats the way to go, you get a lot more for the same price.
Speaking of price, I don’t understand why a fast food Mexican grill has to be so pricy. I had the chicken burrito today which is KD3.150 and that’s fine but then I added sour cream and guacamole and ended up paying KD3.950. Both those toppings should really be factored into the price. Still though the food is pretty good which is why I went back again. One cool thing they have is the nutritional information for all their items. This means you can know exactly how many calories you’re having which is great for calorie counters. If you’re interested in trying them out, they’re located in Kuwait City in the corner of the building right behind where Ubon and Rio are [Map].

4 kd burrito!! WTF
The Kuwaiti version of chipotle!
Would be epic for a chipotle to open.
overwhelmed with all Kuwaiti entrepreneurs price set up. Considerably high while quality of food remains cheap. Averaging 400-800% profit per “meal”. Next thing u know shewarma would cost u 5kd. Purely gruesome and scandalous.
The problem is business owners here want to start making profits immediately, it’s pretty dumb. Has anyone tried opening a restaurant with prices everyone can afford?
the taste is not that good
Tried it the other day. Disgusting استغفر الله
That was so harsh you made laugh!! LOL
Hahaha… well, I’m glad I did. :o)
Ask me about the prices.. Stopped going to restaurants all together, they seem to overcharge just cause “they can”.
yeah that and the stupid fucking markets around town. Overcharging for booths and overcharging for items.
Overpriced non-Middle Eastern food seems to be the norm nowadays. Went to the US Embassy happy hour this past Thursday and Solo Taco was there. They weren’t ready to tackle the load a customers that were there that night and it wasn’t even a full house. There prices were a little over board also. For me being Mexican it had a tolerable flavor but could have been better, and the portion as well. It took 30 minutes to get my food along with others as well but that was only because the staff got confused when a new ticket book was being used once the old one was finished(but orders not served yet). I still prefer Azteca even though it is over priced as well. Will definitely try Chili Pepper one day.
Damn 4 KD taco!!
I’ll buy all the ingredients and make me a healthy delicious Tacos for 1/2 the price and double the quantity
En Mexico in Jabriya is still my favourite !
Hey Mark, any word on other franchises coming to Kuwait in the near future?
3 KD for taco? F**K!
The pricing should be at least KD 1 lower per meal else it cant work… and will close soon.
Every other unbranded arabian fast food place down the block serves lunch for 300 to 800 fils.
Smart move may be to have a lunch special price way lower , and perhaps keep the premium pricing for the evenings where the overflow from Ubon etc may flow here.
Try Adobo Burritos in Mahboula. Infinitely better!
too far
These guys better be careful not to get sued by Chipotle, the menu is exactly identical.
Thank you for the details
Im happy i read your article before wasting the +3KD 🙂
Cheers
Raj
I was at the American embassy last month and Azteca was there, in fact they were there because people at the embassy requested to the manager to bring them back. They have been there several times. The pastor chicken tacos and the Chipotle burritos are really good.
All of the Mexican places are overpriced but only En Mexico and Azteca have decent locations. The other places are mediocre and have the same prices or are more expensive!
I will not try chili pepper 4kd for a burrito? Seriously!!
The amount of people here complaining over a 4KD meal is hilarious. What do you expect them to charge you? 1KD? They’re renting a two story place in the city, with, I’m assuming, at least seven workers? I don’t know the owners but I think this is a completely reasonable price.
I swear to God Khalid knows the owner and is trying his best to advertise the food served at this restaurant.
Is this place still open?
yup
