I was never a fan of the old Cayennes, not because I was Porsche purist and was upset that they had built an SUV, but because I thought they looked ugly. This new third generation Cayenne, on the other hand, is so hot looking which is why I got in touch with Porsche and asked them to borrow the car for the weekend.
Even before driving this third generation Cayenne I was pushing it off on friends. Anybody with a budget of around 30K I would quickly recommend the new Cayenne because it had two very important things going for it, a great looking exterior as well as a very modern looking interior. And, because the car just came out, you know this current look is going to be around for at least the next 7 years.
The model I picked up for the review was the “entry-level” Porsche Cayenne. After spending a weekend with this standard Cayenne I can tell you, you don’t need the faster Cayenne S or Turbo versions. The standard Cayenne with 340HP is no slouch which is what I was expecting it to be. The S version adds another 100HP on top of the standard Cayenne power and the Turbo version adds 200HP, but if you’re on a limited budget, get the standard Cayenne and use the money saved to fill it up with options. The car handled like you’d expect a Porsche to handle, it was very comfortable on bumpy roads but also stiff enough on fast hard turns. When I posted my Lexus LC500 review last week, a reader suggested I should test the cars by running them up and down the Crystal Tower parking lot so I decided to do just that for this review, as an agility test. If you don’t know the Crystal Tower parking lot, its known for being incredibly tight and people tend to scrape both sides of their cars going up and down the ramps. So I decided to have a bit of fun and mounted three GoPro’s to the Cayenne and decided to go up and down the lot to see how it handled tight turns. It passed! I think next time I should run the test when the parking is full since if the floors are empty it’s actually not that hard to maneuver through the floors.
The interior of the new Cayenne is another place it really shines. I personally think the Range Rover Velar raised the bar pretty high for slick and futuristic looking interiors but the new Cayenne manages to do that as well. The new Cayenne has a pretty huge screen with a really great looking infotainment system that also includes Apple’s CarPlay, but that’s just part of what makes the interior look so modern. The physical buttons in the center console area have now been replaced with backlit buttons and digital screens that are now touch sensitive. The whole center console looks like a giant screen and this helps give the interior such a modern look. Moving to the back the rear passengers have excellent legroom as well as having modern amenities like USB ports. The trunk is also pretty big and the rear seats fold down to make it even bigger but oddly enough, there are no controls in the trunk to automatically fold down the rear seats. I couldn’t find the option to add them either on the Porsche site which is bizarre because this is a pretty expensive car so you’d expect this pretty basic option.
Which brings us to the price. The starting price of the Cayenne is KD24,600 and I know this is going to sound weird, but that’s actually a pretty good deal. I would have expected the car to start much higher so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out how much they cost. 30,000 would get you a Cayenne S but as I mentioned earlier, I’d use the money saved going with the standard Cayenne to add all the options you want and there are A LOT of options to choose from. One of my favorite things about Porsche is how you can configure and build your own car on their website. Their online configurator allows you to spec the car the way you want it while showing you the exact cost, and then you can take your build to the dealership and just order it. I tend to build a Porsche maybe once every couple of weeks just for fun (don’t ask) and the Cayenne I built with all the options I wanted came out to around 31,000 which isn’t that bad.
So yeah I pretty much loved the car. I think like all Porsches the biggest issue with the Cayenne is that it’s going to end up being too popular and so you’ll start seeing a ton of them on the roads. If you want to check the car out and take it for a test drive you can as well, just head to the dealer and book a drive. Also make sure you check out the Porsche car configurator [Here]

How is the after sales service though? I heard it can be quite expensive
Actually based on their maintenance schedule/fees I received from the dealer I was surprised it was much CHEAPER than servicing my Mercedes E-class!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahaha and that explains why Mercedes is changing dealerships
You must try palazzo hotel parking lot in Hawally
it can’t be worse than this can it?
I park on the Crystal tower roof everyday… it is a task to take it up. But compare to the other cars I’ve driven… my wrangler goes all the way up in one go without having to reserve to adjust angle.
I really thought you were going to hit wall on the right side. Why in the world did they make those ramps so narrow?
🤷🏼♂️
You should try the all new Jimny for the Crystal Tower parking lots, it will conquer them!
For sure! New one arrives to Kuwait next month 😍
Any idea on price?
nope i’d think 6-8000 but you never know
crystal tower challenge, gclass 6×6… after a drink. I’d be more concerned about the building than the car.
😂😂😂 no way on earth it’s gonna fit there, like no chance at all
Great car but it’s price gets depreciated quite fast. A used cayenne 2011-2014 goes from 6000-12000 KD down from a 30K+ sticker price.
If you dig deeper you can find older Cayennes for like 1000-2000 KD.
This never happens with their Carrera.
If you’re buying a car to sell it later, buy a toyota.
Life’s too short to buy boring cars like Toyotas. I’d rather buy the cheapest Cayenne in Kuwait and sell my kidneys to maintain it. 😉
Great Video,if it was me driving ,my car would come out as a ball
hahaha
Sorry Mark, Have to disagree with you. I own a 2016 GTS and I just do not like it. Just feel like they’re soulless. Except for the Turbo models nowadays, everything is a V6. Don’t get me wrong, the GTS goes crazy quick. But I am just not smiling.
I enjoy my Jag XK much more. It’s 8 years old, but nothing beats the sound and feel of a proper NA V8.
To those who own the 2010-2014 Cayenne S & GTS. Keep it, take care of it and never sell it. You have a gem of a vehicle.
I don’t like the 2016 model either, that’s the second generation Cayenne which I think looks the worse. The one in this review is the third generation.
Not talking about the looks. More about the drive. Performance wise, the new ones are great. But it just doesn’t get the pulse racing. They’re so muted.
Yeah cuz you’re in an SUV. I don’t understand why you’d want to speed in a truck, that’s why I think the standard cayenne is fast enough, you don’t need it to be faster or louder.
Agreed. But that’s the whole point of a Cayenne isn’t it. It’s meant for driving enthusiasts. The new ones(2014 onwards) just aren’t as engaging or exciting to drive as the ones from 10-13. If driving pleasure isn’t at the top of a person’s list, one should just get the Velar or the new Touareg(the 3rd gen looks super cool by the way).
The 2014-2017 are still the old ones. The new ones are 2018 onwards.
But regarding driving pleasure, that has no relation with how fast an SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60. The S Class was so great to drive and you don’t want to speed in it. I didn’t enjoy driving the G Class because it was fast, I don’t enjoy driving the FJ because it’s fast either. Drive ability involves a lot of different variables.
You’re also not going to be tracking an SUV either so I don’t understand why someone would want anything faster than the standard Cayenne (which is already a lot faster than most SUVs). If you have a Cayenne or a Cayenne S how does that change your life drivability wise?
But as I said in the post of money is no object by all means get a Turbo or a Urus. I was just highlighting the fact if you can’t afford the Cayenne S the regular Cayenne is great enough.
Again, I’m not referring to 0-60 times or how fast it corners. Just the pure feel of it.
If possible, try to drive the Cayenne S or GTS which were sold between 2010-13(Basically 2nd gen pre-facelift). You’ll understand what I’m getting at.
Slightly off topic. Any clue when the track opens up for track days. The temperatures are slowly dropping and I’m getting excited. Use a Mini JCW for track days back home and it’s incredible fun, probably rent a Cayman for the track here. 😀
P.S. Actively looking for a 10-13 Cayenne S/Infiniti FX 50S 😛
I agree with you but I already said in my post, I hate the first and second generation Cayenne. This review is for the brand new one that just got launched, it’s a completely different car then the ones you’re talking about.
For the track I heard rumors it might open in November. I’m still trying to find a contact there to get more details.
Also another option worth mentioning is the Porsche Macan, basically a mini cayenne…
And I loved the crystal tower video 😂
The new facelifted Macan is gonna be here in a few months will take it out once it does 😁
i see you test a lot of cars
but never see you test or talk about the new Kia STINGER.
its Not expensive as the others,
but it deserve a mention.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPD1joDOlLo
It’s cuz I don’t have an interest in the stinger
Next time when you test a car, don’t use any cameras and sensors. That would be a true test of your agility.
I didn’t, the car only had a reverse camera and I don’t need the car to beep to let me know I’m close to the wall lol
What if you hit something? Would they ask you to pay for repairs or damages? Or is it just one of the perks of being a blogger?
All test drive vehicles are usually fully insured, but in any case I’m too good of a driver to scratch a car in a parking lot no matter how tight 💅🏻 and I wouldn’t want to scratch the car up anyway cuz I’d want to continue getting cars to drive 😁
I know which is why I was surprised you even tried this and filmed and posted it for them to see what you attempted with their car lol
Tried what? You make it sound like I took the car dune bashing, I just drove it up and down a parking lot in the City…
It’s like you deliberately tried to scratch it by exposing it to such conditions I mean I get that you were trying to prove a point but I would for sure be pissed if I let someone borrow a brand new car for them to try something risky and end up scratching it even if by mistake
wait a second, lets take a few steps back here. How did I “deliberately” try to scratch the car and what was the “risky” condition I exposed the car to?
I never enter a parking lot without turning on 360 view and I’m never buying a car without it 😀
The new Cayenne has the 360 surround view option but sadly the test drive vehicle wasn’t optioned out with it. Porsche really should install everything on the test drive vehicles so that customers can try them out before ordering.
You took it to a parking garage that according to you is “known for being incredibly tight and people tend to scrape both sides of their cars going up and down the ramps.” I wouldn’t try that with a new car nonetheless a new car that isn’t even mine.
The parking lot is the Crystal Tower parking lot, it’s one that’s used daily by hundreds of people and is always super packed. It’s known for being super tight and people who DON’T know how to drive tend to scrape their cars on the wall.
If you don’t know how to drive that’s your issue but don’t make it sound like I did anything risky. If you think driving a car in a parking lot is risky you shouldn’t be driving period.
This video was meant to be funny and playing on the parking lot reputation, clearly, you’ve taken it too seriously.
Well that’s not what you said in the original post and you know how to drive so good for you! You did do something risky if even in the video you are clearly saying “oh that was close.” I still only asked why you would subject a brand new car to this situation. You obviously took the whole thing out of context as an attack but oh well.
How the fuck are you allowed to drive? This is why we have so many idiots on the road, people who don’t know how to drive end up getting their license because of wasta.
Can you please stop trolling now cuz you’re clearly a moron.
kthxbye!
Wow, those turns were super tight, you had my heart going a little quicker during every bend! Ha
Ok, I’m gonna be the one to ask this question:
What’s that t-shirt you’re wearing? I like it!
lol forgot the brand but after I shot the video I realized I should have worn something else that didn’t include an illustration of a car crashing and catching fire
I park on the Crystal tower roof everyday… it is a task to take it up. But compare to the other cars I’ve driven… my wrangler goes all the way up in one go without having to reserve to adjust angle.
If ever there was a car that went from ugly duckling to beautiful swan… it’s the Cayenne
