Earlier this year Tamdeen announced they were taking over development of the stalled tennis project next to 360 Mall and that they would be completing it as part of their “massive expansion” of 360 Mall. Renderings of the extension are finally available online along with a bit more information on the courts including that it will have a 4,000 seat indoor arena, a 1,500 seat outdoor arena, 6 indoor tennis courts, 8 outdoor tennis courts, and supporting clubhouse with tennis school. Check out more photos and details [Here]

You’re welcome Mark
Are we gonna witness Kuwait Open where players will come here to complete ?
Who the hell plays tennis?
*in
Shockingly alot of people in kuwait.
Kuwait Open Grand Slam by 2020 is now a reality, and would be really cool!
I hope they’ve planned entry/exit points well enough – hopefully not a single entry from the 6th RR that’s always blocked, like in the case of the Avenues.
WTF? THERE ARE NO SHOPS OR RESTAURANTS IN THIS THING?!!!!
It’s a “tennis” complex
DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO WATCH TENNIS WITHOUT DRINKING STARBUX OR EATING FUSION STREET FOOD????????
…what’s with the all-caps responses? The extension has been confirmed to have shops, restaurants and cafés in addition to all the tennis facilities.
THANK GOD I AM SICK OF THE AVENUES!!!!!!
There will also be a hotel, still to be confirmed 4 or 5 stars. Design is by RTKL Dallas.
The previous design for the tennis complex was supposed to have a four-star hotel to be operated by Millennium & Copthorne. Tamdeen has clearly marketed their redesigned hotel as being a five-star property; just take a drive around the site and you can see “5 star hotel” on the fence and any online search you’ll get on will also confirm this.
Based on the renderings, there is a clear Hyatt logo on the building so if this is anything to go by, this will be the first Hyatt in Kuwait since the 1980s when the company pulled out of the-now Regency in Al Bida’a.
I smell siphoning of public funds here. The giveaway terms? “Kuwaiti Tennis Federation” (in the link). No private business is going to make money renting out tennis courts to the public in Kuwait.
These courts will be on a long term (forever) lease to the “Federation” i.e the government. This is how it works: The business leases land from the government for next-to-nothing, build it, then lease it back to them charging multiple doubles.
That’s how value is created in Kuwait and the average citizen gets nothing out of it except the view of yet another mall. Your precious Dinar at work.
The value here is that Kuwait will get world class tennis facilities. Maybe that doesn’t mean much to you because it doesn’t involve the word Starbucks but that’s actually a pretty great way of increasing the popularity of tennis in Kuwait.
… yup, exactly what I’ve just posted earlier. Been in Kuwait forever and yet to see a single world class sporting event* that puts it on the World Map. This looks like a step in the positive direction and hopefully it works.
* chasing alien girls in malls is not a sport.
World class? Oh yes, I can see Maria Sharapova and the Williams sisters clamoring to come here to show off their monster thighs to the guys from the Ministry of Information. A bunch of courts with high school bleachers is a training facility in a club and not a world class venue.
Anyway, that’s not my point. My point is: this appears to be yet another example of public money being siphoned, just like the Olympia building in Salmiya whose ownership is to be transferred back to the government due to too much monkey business accusations by the lessee over the years.
BTW, I don’t drink coffee and I hate shopping malls.
Dude, when Doha and Dubai can successfully do it, why can’t we?
@Kuwait I’ll give you some keywords to help you solve the puzzle: Boobs, thighs, Heineken, Ministry.
To host world class event, country needs to have high class airport, high class local airlines, high class public transportation system and RESPECT FOR FOREIGNERS instead of looking them like enemy if they are male or ugly females and like sluts if they are good looking females.
One step at a time…
yup +1
– high class airport
There are already two new airports approved and about to be built, the expansion airport and the new big airport.
– high class public transportation
Almost all current highways are under upgrade plans, or being prepared for upgrades. Metro is already approved, just no set date for construction yet.
Check: http://www.newkuwaitgov.com
– high class local airlines
KA already started replacing its airplanes and by 2017 they will all be brand new.
– RESPECT FOR FOREIGNERS
I understand that many may think its a civilization issue. But I think it will happen when the country start taking tourism seriously, and implement tax system for all kind of business establishments. This will make it values foreigners as main source of income, since they are contributing into the economy through the companies they work for, or as a tourists.
As a tennis fan I can’t wait for the opening. SO EXCITED.
Cool, can’t wait.
