Ban the Vuvuzela

Yes please! I used to be pro vuvuzela but not anymore. It’s just too much. Maybe they need to limit it to one vuvuzela per person? In any case I just voted to have it banned. [Link]

Thanks FYI

sheesh….. those things are so damn irritating! At first i thought theres something wrong with my television, till I read your post yesterday. Sounds more like there is a swarm of flies somewhere near the stadium…

Looks like some voodoo thingy they use to invoke the Spirit of the Ant Eater. Seriously though.. they need to lay off that crazy witchcraft-y stuff. They end up damaging their own ears.. doubt they care though.

Ever noticed that the crowd stopped blowing them when the Mexicans scored their goal against South Africa? Maybe getting SA to lose is what it takes to get them to stop… 😛

lol @Nael
Just think about it…may be if South Africa wins the world cup…..there will be so many of them blowing….

any signal hacker/sabotager/alien force out there that can filter out this horn gets my vote.

…reached a stage where we now watch the matches with the audio muted.. ..and that to say the least is pathetic match viewing tv experience..

The Vuvuzela is part of South Africa and their sporting culture but yes it is supremely annoying! Good luck trying to get them banned though…..

Oh and MAYA the Vuvuzela has NOTHING to do with Voodoo or Witchcrafty stuff its a horn its not magic!!!!!!

without it…this would be just another match in Europe or anywhere else for that matter.
the Vuvuzela is adding a unique SAn touch to the matches…
its a game…not a sermon!!!

@whodaredwon

You make it seem like the vuvuzela was part of the fight to oust the apartheid…All the vuvuzela is is a failed toy imported from the states and its use started a few years ago. Its a corporate manufactured nuisance..if thats the kind of culture SA wants to cling to be my guest but in this case WE THE WORLD are their guests and their being horrible hosts.

@KaleeDo

I see no referance in my comment about the Vuvuzela being part of the struggle against Apartheid so that was a pointelss comment on your part to be fair.

As SA’s guests the world should accept SA for what it is Lock, Stock the Lot.

It is what it is and the Vuvuzela is going to stay so get used to it and stop whining if you dont like the nosie turn the sound of.

Is it any worse than the south americans pretty much setting fire to the stands with Flares which make it impossible as a spectator to even see the field.

The People in SA love any excuse to have a good time make noise and enjoy, the Vuvuzela has been around at footy matches in SA since the 60s and used to be made of tin so your comment about a failed toy import are frankly BOLLOCKS!!!!!

I know what it is whodaredwon. I was talking about what it looks like and how they go overboard with it. Read ‘tween the lines- it was pretty obvious.

@whodaredwon

Wow I see you’ve mastered the art of sarcasm..I guess that’s another failed invention that didn’t make its way down there. You got the premise of host nation completely wrong..As a host nation your one and only job is to show hospitality to your guests and if any action taken by you whether intentional or not is causing a disturbance or bothers YOUR guests its on you to right that wrong. Its like if Egypt hosted the World Cup and just said you know what traffic is horrible here all the time we wont do anything about it take it or leave it.

And i quote “A football fan said he created the vuvuzela prototype in the mid-70s and developed versions in aluminium and plastic, but in 2001 a company trademarked it and mass produced it.”

Key words there is mass produced…Im sure most people in stadiums and watching on TV like you wouldnt mind if one gracious asshole host like yourself was blowing his horn till his lungs collapsed but 90000 people being annoying…well thats South African hospitality like you said take it or leave it.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with it. It drowns out the commentators, which can only be a good thing.

Also, every World Cup needs something unexpected to remember it by – think of Argentina 1978 and you think of those crazy tickertape cascades (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmXdIyRwAfU); Mexico 1986 introduced the world to the ‘Mexican Wave’; USA 94 – the Diana Ross (and Roberto Baggio) penalty miss etc.

If you really don’t like the sound, try this:

The English Premier League say they are happy for supporters to bring them back in time for next season…vuvuzelas are here to stay!

Hoooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Agree with the all the culture thing but personally its highly annoying. It feels like a constant bee buzzing in my ear. MUTED WORLD CUP! yes something to remember it by

When watching it on ESPN, they have some kind of sound filter that they talked about in the preview and it really worked well for the Brazil vs NK match.

I’d much rather listen to the vuvuzelas during the matches than hear all those whingers whine about them 24 hours a day..

No one is forcing them to watch the world cup – & those who mute their TV – that’s just sad..!

Although I’ve never imagined that anyone would watch a football match on mute, its sad (& a little disturbing) to hear otherwise..!

The way i see it, vuvuzelas are adding, positively, to the atmosphere of the matches, & i bet in 20 years time, the vuvuzelas will bring back nostalgic memories of the 2010 World Cup & i reckon a lot of us will feel the same way – just my opinion..!

i vote to keep coz i think its fun

plus ppl only will use it during the big event then they’ll forget about it later
