The Kuwait Champions Challenge is in a few days and already three players have been stopped from playing in Kuwait due to the fact Kuwait was suspended by FIFA in October because of government interference. The three players banned are Steven Gerrard, Andrea Pirlo and Xavi Hernandez. [Source]
I just tried accessing the Kuwait Champions Challenge website to see if they’ve updated the players list but the site seems down at the moment.
Update: Here is a good article for CNN on this muck up by a good friend of mine Motez Bishara [Link]

HAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Bullshit… And I’m not even a football fan.
Follow the bloody rules then…
First of all, Xavi was never even on the list. A fake report was going around and it caught on. I can promise you that the players you just mentioned will take part in the game on the 18th.
It doesn’t make sense to stop them play. They are not representing an official team nor are they playing against an official Kuwait team.
it was obvious/expected…Gerrard and Pirlo are active players, they have busy schedule with local championships and Champions League. Clubs wont accept any injury risks.so instead of making them look bad (considering all the fans that they have in Middle East) and dropping their sales of jerseys and club gadgets, they go through FIFA.
remember foodball/soccer is a huge industry/business not just a sport…
Gerrard and Pirlo play for clubs in the MLS whose teams are in no way part of the Champions League.
CORRECT….my mistake…
Also MLS don’t play this time of the year.
SCREW THAT i was going to see Stevie G
I never saw Xavi in the list before, so I don’t think he was there in the first place I guess…
