In Focus: Sportsline

When I needed some grappling gloves I ended up ordering a pair online since I couldn’t find any locally. Go Sport used to carry the Venom brand but they ran out of stock ages ago and never restocked. Then Nat needed a pair of combat gloves and a friend of hers recommended Sportsline in Salmiya. I hadn’t heard of the place before but turns out they have a huge collection of training gloves.

They mostly carry gloves from the Everlast brand including grappling, training and boxing gloves as well as face protection and hand wraps. One wall in their store is just filled with different kinds of Everlast gear all organized very nicely.

They also have a good collection of boxing bags and gear from the Samurai brand.

Price wise I found them more expensive than Amazon even when including shipping. But if don’t want the hassle of ordering online then this is a good alternative. They’re located in the basement of Al Wataniya Complex in Salmiya. That’s the same building that has the bank CBK, right across the street from NBK and Eureka.

depends on the gloves. best bet is to pass by and check them out. the grappling gloves were around KD24. I ordered the UFC gloves and with shipping they cost me under KD20 for example.

I’ve spent a lot of money stacking my gym with equipment from this store. This is definitely where I’d go for equipment, but not for gloves. When you say combat gloves, do yo mean like straight up Muay Thai/Boxing gloves? If so, you should check out this tiny martial arts store in Shaha Mall across the street. They carry Top King. I’ve boxed with Twins, Fighting Sport, and other brand gloves, and nothing comes close to Top King. In Thailand, it’s either Twins, Top King, Windy, or Fairtex. If you care about your hands you need one of those. This right here is the Mercedes of the glove world: https://www.jagmma.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/f/a/fairtex-gloves-black.jpg

Yeah dude, the store in Shaha center (Japan center?, bottom floor) is full of Martial Art supplies. Gloves, headgear, training tools, punching boards, punching dummies, ankle weights, body weights, Gi’s, wooden swords. The store clerk is a nice guy too.

i went to this long long ago when they first opened then went to it after a few month when i wanted to buy so weights and a bench and so own

they are super expansive compared to other retailers or shops.

MMA gloves? Unless you plan on fighting with those, you should never do your boxing training with them, and even then you shouldn’t go hard. Those were made for light punches during grappling training. You should never box up a heavy bag with those tiny gloves. You shouldn’t even use sparring gloves on a heavy bag. You need purpose-built bag gloves to avoid injuries while going hard on the bag. You’ll find them at the store I mentioned. Wrist and knuckle injuries will put you out for a while of you’re not careful.

Oh, we’ll in that case I’m not quite sure what you’re doing lol. I remember last time we spoke you said you were doing Muay Thai so I assumed you were still doing some sort of striking.

http://www.mmawarehouse.com really good website that has everything, I am sure most people have been to it though.

Mark, where were you going to do Muay Thai at? I am doing kickboxing now, but before I was doing Muay Thai with a friend who is Thai at my house, but we wanted to fight here in Kuwait so that’s why we joined a kickboxing club. There are enough similar things in MT and kickboxing that one will help the other and vice versa, so if you can’t find a specific MT trainer kickboxing is a good alternative, and alot of guys have done MT. Are you doing BJJ at Sidekick?

There is also a store called “Oriental Sports” in Salmiya, they have a decent selection of stuff.

Top king is good stuff, I use twins shin pads and top king gloves, I also had a pair of twins gloves they are all good brands.

I was doing Muay Thai at Core since one of the trainers there used to play professionally back in his home. I’ve stopped now because of my triathlon training schedule. I was doing BJJ at sidekick but stopped again because lack of time.

Yeah that’s cool man, it is time consuming with any fighting style. I have my first fight in October, so I am trying to train as much as possible, all for my main goal of fighting in an amatuer Muay Thai fight in Thailand, obviously against another foreigner, haha. I plan on going to a 4-6 month camp, so this is all just preparation and getting ring experience for that goal. I miss some things from Muay Thai like elbows, knees, and the clinch, but kickboxing is faster and has a stronger boxing base, so it helps me overall. Before coming to Kuwait I did Krav Maga, but no luck learning that here… I turned my living room into a gym, so we still train Muay Thai at least 2 days a week on top of kickboxing, mainly pad work and sparring.
