I didn’t even know you could drift a tank! Kuwait also took part in last years Tank Biathlon which has to be the coolest and most insane sporting event ever. [Link]

I am cracking up laughing at this. Only a Kuwaiti would know how to drift a tank and then flip it over like that. The tank driver gets a gold star.

Firstly all the tanks were required to drift, see the full video.

The T-72 tanks are extremely light only 41 tonnes since most tanks are almost twice that and it has a V12 diesel producing 700 hp (at least due to different models of it) which is capable of making it go up to 60km/h , which is a lot since most tanks that are twice the wight of this tank have about 900-1100 hp. its also a really old tank the youngest this tank could be is 30+ years so it is pretty basic when it comes to modern technology and suability.

it wasn’t a really reliable tank especially when it comes to water, the engine would usually fill up with water and shut down which is what happened with the arminian team. which is why so its fast and light add that to a incompetent crew, who if you notice didn’t slow down to turn and ended up over shooting the area they that was designed for you to use. The area the started off with was smooth and solid, with it turning it now was of two completely different surfaces which cases the tacks to move at different speeds and the weight of the thing adding to it means it has to flip over, like a car does.

even tanks can’t escape the laws of physics.

i don’t think anything happened to the tank. as long as the idiots remembered to shut down the engine when it they realised what happened. i personally don’t care about if the crew got hurt or not. i feel embarrassed to know that those people showed the world that the people who are suppose to be the protectors of Kuwait CANT EVEN DRIVE A TANK. especially since it is the anniversary of the invasion of kuwait… says a lot to the world doesn’t it?

You’re right, initially the T72 was developed around 30 years ago. However the ones participating and used now are not the same as the first versions, they are modernized and pretty different to the earlier T72s. They might look almost the same but the armor, technology etc. are much better and much more sophisticated.

Also not sure about the water part that you’re talking about, maybe its the first ones that did that. The new ones dont have this problem, even if you look at the last years competition, they had an obstacle which was pretty deep and filled with water where all tanks had to go pass, not a single one stalled.

Are we actually trying to fool ourselves into thinking who the real protector of Kuwait really is? (See 1991 Liberation)

Mark,

The tank you’re referring to belongs to Armenia, not Kuwait. The ministry of defence/interior issued an official statement denying that the incident involved a Kuwaiti tank.

at first they thought it was kuwati, but then they found out thats it not. all officials denied that ever happening. but its still cool 😛
