Long term parking in the short term airport parking lot

Since this weekend was a long one, the long term parking at the airport was completely filled. Usually I’d wait outside until someone leaves but I figured this time around it wasn’t going to happen so I decided to park at the short term parking lot instead. According to the sign at the entrance of the short term parking, the cost would be 200 fils for the first hour and then 400 fils for every hour after that. Calculating that into a day would mean it would cost you KD9.4 for 24 hours which is a ridiculous sum. Luckily, thats not the case.

The short term parking has a maximum fee of KD4 a day. Although expensive, it does mean if you’re traveling for just the weekend and the long term parking is full then you could park in the short term one as an alternative option. I left Thursday morning and came back Sunday morning and the total was KD16, double the price I would usually pay if I had parked in the long term lot.

Valet seemed to be available quite often many (many, many, many) years ago. But I haven’t seen them since maybe 2006 and I would travel almost every weekend. I thought they had stopped the service; surprised to know otherwise.

4kd a day???

GOD BLESS KUWAIT!!!

It costs me 5pounds to park for ONE hour in the UK!!

Aaaaah.. Kuwaitis simple luxuries. <3

valet at the airport is 2kd first day and 1 kd every day after that… they are almost always full and dont accept cars, still worth a shot since its cheaper than the long term parking

I flew out on Thursday afternoon to avoid the horrible rush on Wednesday night – including, but not limited to, the Parking Lot From Hell. Noooo thanks – on long weekends, it is a taxi all the way.

Mark and everyone else…I think the lost ticket penalty is 10 K.D, say you lost the ticket and save! : ) Simple yet dare if I say brilliant? ; )

I think dey actually cross check the car number plate with the video (taken upon entry) with car entry date to calculate the parking fee + penalty (if any). Who has time to note down each and every car plate number!

I tried to do that last month, they had my car plat number and knew when I was in. So I showed up the ticket and paid less.

They do not do it. I lost a ticket once and they told me that they would charge me 10 KD. I was happy to pay as it was very late, but they told me to go back and try to find it. Well, I was lucky and found it on the floor. However they only mentioned 10kd at first.

According to the airport and various people who’ve tried it, t’s KD10 fine for losing your ticket in addition to the amount of days you’ve been parked there.

But of course everyone here is wrong including the airport employee. You can park at the airport for a month and just lose your card and pay KD10 because that sounds more plausible.

Actually, I tried that once and failed. They have a list of all plates who parked for more than a day. The guy actually showed it to me and was looking for my car plate number then it was a very busy day, people were angry as I completely stopped the line. The security guy called his boss and asked me to back off and wanted me to go inside the airport again and search for my lost card. I said fine, and drove couple of minutes at the parking and went to someone else far away and gave him my ticket. 16 KWD too! Wasn’t worth the hassle and getting caught to be honest. It was an amazing experience though, hehehehehe..

I have been parking in the short term for the past 2 years when going out on short trips.

Who the fuck whined? This was an informative post so people know how much parking in the short term lot costs. Next time read the post.

Mark, next time try parking at the cargo lot, its just a short walk to the terminal. Its free, and always empty.

Parking at Kuwait airport is NOT expensive. Have you parked at airports in any other country? It can set you back equiv. to KD 25+ / 24 hours!!!!

Best is tie up with a taxi company .. call them to drop you to the airport, call them to pick you up… total wont exceed KD 10(to the max, for both ways combined).

I work in the airport and I have a yearly based paid parking card and because of people parking their cars in the short term lot while traveling, It’s a drama every weekend to find a single place to park my car. So I decided to park outside in the weekends .. even if I have to walk a long long way to the Airport Building. Not good at all !

Use the cargo parking. I’ve been using it for a year. just try to park close to the security station and it’s really safe since people are getting in and out the cargo area all the time.
