Wataniya Airways First Destinations

Wataniya Airways is getting close to relaunch and they’ve updated their website with the first three destinations they’ll be flying to which are:

Azerbaijan
Georgia
Sarajevo

If someone had asked me to guess their first ten destinations, neither of these three would have made my list. They seem like such low traffic destinations to be flying to but supposedly they’re popular destinations for conservatives. That’s interesting, and smart.

When Wataniya Airways launched the first time around they were flying to popular destinations like Beirut and Dubai so they were competing with a number of other airlines. This time around it seems they’re trying to carve a niche for themselves and now I’m curious to see what else they’ll be adding.

Here is a link to their [Website]

Thanks Abdullah

Not sure about Azerbaijan, but 90% of passengers on board of Flydubai flights to Georgia are Kuwaitis.

Sarajevo is popular destination this summer in Kuwait as well, so they chose wisely. Also one of the major factor was sirport fees I guess (much cheaper for airlines than popular EU destinations).

The highland of Georgia, the Kaukasus, is a very good destination for people escaping from Mid East summer heat. In addition, Georgia offers free tourist visa for Kuwait residents.

Even Indian citizens get visa on arrival in Georgia and a vacation in Georgia is considered to cost cheaply for a mid-income Indian family. I know so many families travelling there this summer.

So I think Watinya’s idea of flying there is great.

Based on my knowledge, Arabs love Georgia because no visa is required, it’s cheap and works as a “last minute” destination
There are no direct flights from Kuwait to Georgia so I believe this works for Wataniya

First time around it was a premium airline with their own terminal.

The new avataar is…..cartooney.

Azerbaijan is really nice and also extremely popular with GCC arabs already, Kuwait’s late to this one

You’re most welcome Mark and to be honest with you, I didn’t expect that you will post about it! But fortunately, you did!

I find it a smart move.
Kuwait is geographically the best GCC country to serve as a transit for these destinations.

We only need a better airport and targeted advertisements to transform Kuwait into the best transit option from an to eastern European countries.

Agree! I wish they became as popular as Flydubai. For most of destinations using Flydubai, we have to fly ~2000KM wrong direction, and cover this distance back when flying to original destination. For example flight to Georgia takes minimum 8 hours with fastest transit option from Flydubai and it’s only takes 2.5 hours using Wataniya Airways.

Interesting destinations for intrepid travellers. I second the suggestion above for Moscow and would add beautiful Saint Petersburg too
