Kuwaiti Flag Sent to Space

The Kuwait Science Club sent a Kuwaiti flag into space using a weather balloon. They recorded the whole thing with a GoPro camera and you can watch the footage above. [YouTube]

Thanks Anes

Ok, so that didn’t really go to ‘SPACE’…

Plus, for the Kuwait Science Club, I would have liked to see a little more science go into… rather than a balloon and a little rig to hold the GoPro.

Have they considered the dangers posed by releasing that ‘space-goer’ this close the airport?

The article in the newspaper said that they had the support of the ministry of interior air patrol department, kuwait science club and the meteorology department.

The big thing was they were using GPS and just sending up a GoPro in a Styrofoam box.

Pretty awesome! However the balloon doesn’t actually go into space. It just bobs on the upper layer of the atmosphere like a ball floating on water.

Great achievement? Awesome?

Don’t you guys think it would be more great if people in Kuwait would stop throwing their trash on the ground? Or if people were more civilized as to reduce the number of traffic accidents? Or that people would actually work hard at their jobs?

I don’t see how sending a balloon up and taking a picture of the flag has done anything remotely positive for the country. Seriously, the reactions to this are as if Kuwait has invented something or found the cure to cancer… get a grip guys.

I don’t think anyone mentioned that it was an achievement. Maybe you should research Kuwait Science Club and know what they do. They have nothing to do with traffic or public awareness. I don’t think anyone is overreacting to the importance of this video except you.

It’s an interesting idea that hasn’t been seen on video in Kuwait before. Why not be happy with a simple experiment? (not that it was perfect)

But I don’t see anyone over excited to begin with. Except KG. They only wanted to do highest Kuwaiti flag over Kuwait, and they did it.

This is the beginning of an Arab space program. This achievement will inspire dreamers to dream about the future and the stars.

Let the people propel themselves forward with this milestone as a step towards our evolution in the space race.

We are worthy contenders.

And one day our flag will float among the debris orbiting the earth, and I dream it causes space engineers daily encounters of navigating satellites around our flag, so that may remember our contribution to restoring faith that anything is possible.

Then we may rise above any pestilence. United.

So say we all.

Great video. Only issue is that I thought that the box could use better balance if it’s possible. It would have been much cooler if we could see a stable shot going up; but I guess that the box is too light.

Anyone knows what their peak altitude was?

this is extremely cool yet not well executed. they should have done some testing, realized that its not stable in a foam box, and did the necessary adjustments to fix it.
