Getting a Nintendo Switch in Kuwait

Nintendo’s new console, the Switch is coming out on March 3rd. There’s a lot of positive hype surrounding the release of Nintendo’s new console which is a hybrid of a home console and a portable console. I pre-ordered one back in January from Amazon US for $299 while Mark pre-ordered his from the Walmart website. If you’re interested in getting one yourself, there are two ways to do so:

The first option is to get it locally. Xcite have a sign-up page to get a notification once they have more information on the Switch, but theres no mention on when they’re expecting to get it. Then there’s Rihab. I paid a visit to Rihab on Friday to ask if they were getting the Switch and how much they were expecting to sell it for. I wasn’t given a concrete answer, but I was told that there would be a shortage of consoles locally, which isn’t surprising since Nintendo is only making two million units available at launch worldwide. I was also told the approximate price of the Switch would be KD150 (approximately $490) which I found hard to believe since I’m expecting it to go as high as KD250 on the first few days of launch. The shops I asked were adamant that it wouldn’t go that high up, but I’m still skeptical.

Your second option is to pre-order a Switch online and ship it to your forwarding mailbox like Shop&Ship or PostaPlus. It’s sold out in most of the US stores but they’re still available to pre-order at a bunch of UK ones including:

Amazon UK
Argos
GAME
Nintendo Store
Tesco

The UK stores are selling the Switch for slightly more than the US stores at KD106 verses KD98 (with tax). But, it should still be cheaper than buying it locally… at least in the beginning.

They should have just called it “Nintendo What the Wii U should have been but we’re late and we’re going to fail again” *Snap fingers*

Hopefully that’s not the case this time around. Nintendo is doing a lot of things right. Cheap dev kits, a console that supports all the popular game engines, a gimmick that actually works, clear messaging and on top of all that the Xbox isn’t doing so well.

I’ve been a fan of Nintendo products for a long time, the Switch might not become a huge success but they’re doing a lot of things differently this time around to try and get more developers to make games for the Switch. Besides that, Nintendo has one console to focus on. So the third-party dev’s that made great games for the 3DS (like Atlus) will now be making great games for the Switch.

I’d be happy with a console with a lot of great Nintendo games, with a lot of indie games and some great third party games from dev’s like Platinum and Atlus.

I’m so waiting on this till the price settles and let the games library build up nicely. My cue to purchase one is obviously Ghetto Mario aka Odyssey.

Does anyone have a list of games coming to the Switch on release day and later this year? All I know is that Splatoon, Zelda and Mario are coming, but what other games are scheduled for release?

considering the games cost around KD20, that means you’d be paying KD126ish for the system. That isn’t so bad as an alternative to ordering from the UK which is around KD106 plus add around KD10 for shipping to KD116. You’d be paying KD10 extra for geekaygames.

I see! I’ve also stumbled upon this Instagram account which is taking pre-orders for 120 KWD but it’s out of stock for them sadly. Should I just wait for launch or something like Xcite or go ahead and pre-order one from the UK? I’m pretty hyped for the new Zelda game!

I also contacted Xcite and GamesQ8 to see whats their status with the Switch. Will keep you posted.

According to Walmart my switch is gonna ship on March 3 and get to my mailbox by March 8. Pretty fucking slow since with Amazon people will be getting it on March 3.

BUT, I’m not paying tax for my Walmart Switch so I’m getting it cheaper by KD10+ compared to amazon US people and like KD25ish cheaper than Amazon UK people.

At this point I’m so tempted to pre-order it from Geekaygames haha. I’d order it from the UK but I’ve never done it before (only Amazon US without any third-party service). Keep me posted with what happens with Xcite and GamesQ8 though , would really appreciate it!

That’s a fair assessment. It really depends what kind of games you’re into, I probably have been playing on my 3DS more than any of my other consoles. My Wii U just started collecting dust since I’ve played all the games I want on it. But if you bought a Wii U and 3DS and barely touched them, then there’s no point on getting the Switch.
