The Dewaniya Show on Marina FM brought up my post on my parents having to leave Kuwait for good and discussed the topic of long term expats on the air. They’ve only shared the first two and a half minutes online which you can watch above, but I’m hoping to get a hold of the whole episode since I’m curious to what peoples opinions on the subject was. Once I do I’ll post it up here.

I hope this all reaches the ears of the higher ups. Maybe they will take action and implement a system where those who have worked and lived here a major part of their lives can remain here.
I have also lived here all my life. Leaving Kuwait would not only be horribly sad, but would also probably destroy me lol. I have nothing to go back to in my country.

My situation is similar to that of you Mark. My grandparents moved to Kuwait in the 60’s and I’m 3rd generation born in Kuwait. All my childhood memories of school and friends even family are in Kuwait. One day I will have to be uprooted or worse deported for a traffic violation or something.
For someone who lived here all his life its really nice to hear this talk.
FYI my family is in Kuwait since 1964 we dont know any country other than Kuwait.
I really do hope they take this in consideration.

My grandparents came to Kuwait in the early fifties, my mother as well as my aunts and uncles were born here, there are 4 generations of my family in kuwait with 3 being born here; and yet it is how you described.
It’s nice to see that your post reached the local media. Hopefully, this will influence future decisions/changes of residency policies.
It’s nice that this topic is in mainstream discussion. My situation is similar to many whose parents and grandparent were here all their lives but had to leave because of visa/sponsor issues. Hope there is some sort of self-sponsoring scheme or permanent residency scheme which we can have.
There are a lot of people in Kuwait who’s been here since 1950s, 60s, 70s etc..
I know a guy who was born in Kuwait and his father passed away. lives with his mom and doesn’t have anybody to call his relative in India.
The govt gave him some sort of temp residency but he had to get employed as soon as he turned 21 or else go to India where he knows nobody.
It would be great if the govt set up something for these people.
Also, they can tax the expats if required and give them tax returns if they leave the country permanently or give them PR and affordable housing once they’ve live here for 15, 20, 25+ years. They won’t be able to afford housing in Kuwait after retirement.

My father came to Kuwait in 1956 after he was graduated from finance school in Lebanon. He got married in Kuwait and lived all his life in this country. Im the second generation born in late 60’s and my kids are the 3rd generation born in the 90’s. After 61 years, my dad is being asked to leave and go home.
Like I said in a previous post, my mother was born here fifty years ago, lived her whole life here and married a Kuwaiti 15 years ago. Married.to.a.Kuwaiti. Because she bore him no children, she has no rights whatsoever. She’s been happily married to him for 15 years and she has the same rights as a laborer who arrived here last night. And you know what? She LOVES Kuwait with every fiber of her being and she is loyal to it. She loves loves loves this country.
I wrote about this a couple days back and you know what people said to me? “Who cares? Kuwait shouldn’t have to give her anything!”
Please accept my apology on behalf of all decent Kuwaitis who believe that the expat community has enriched our lives in more ways than we appreciate.
Whoever told you that is narrow-minded
It works like this. The Kuwaiti citizenship brings with it amazing perks. The more citizens there are, the harder it becomes to sustain this system. On top of that, you have the tribal mentality of “our people” and “your people” and you can tell that they will never give expats citizenship on any significant scale. Knowing this, why would they grant permanent residency, which is really a step in the direction of citizenship.
