There was a press event held today at the Sheikh Saad terminal regarding the new airport design. At the event a CD was given to the attendees which contained various renderings of the airport (previously posted about here) as well as PDF’s containing information on the airport design plus some facts and figures. None of the documents say when the airport will be completed but they do say construction begins next year. Oh and it will have a metro station meaning I will be able to take the train from my home to the airport… that’s if they ever build the metro.
Other interesting facts, the airport will be covered with solar panels as previously speculated and they’re actually aiming to be the first passenger terminal in the world to attain the LEED “gold” accreditation (laymen terms = it will be very environmentally friendly). The steps which in my previous post I thought were weird (check image above) turned out to be water falls which makes a lot more sense. Check out all the renderings below, they’re slightly updated and polished compared to the previous renderings that were posted. Finaly here is a link to a zip file containing the PDF’s in Arabic and English. [PDF LINK]
Thanks Rabee

Love the leed idea. We also need better air conditioning at the airport.
Great! Step 1. The single most important project for the State of Kuwait. What company is going to build it? But…….I think the Islamics might fight this project because too many of the renderings resemble a cucka. If you don’t know what a cucka is, watch the Jersey Shore.
OR Google it. Save your brain cells and your time.
No!!!! Really? Until I see pictures of cranes and people actually building the project, I won’t believe it.
+1
It seems a little strange to have a water feature this big in an indoor environment that doesn’t need water, and still aim for LEED.
… and a year after its built, pieces of it are falling to the floor because it hasn’t been maintained. Yup. Looks real purty on paper.
Is it me or does this new airport resembler a g-string?

lol… it does
KEO is behind this project and it has been a couple of years since this proposal has been on the table. Now lets see when this design becomes a reality.
Rendered images always look amazing.. except when they’re from Kuwait’s Airport they take decades to build.
The escalator in the second picture on your post seems to lead people to fall a good 6 or 7 meters before getting to the lower floor. Am I missing something here? Anti-gravity technology perhaps?
Exactly what I was thinking. Unless they quickly would have to get on the escalator going up just beside it, right before the fall.
Where is it going to be built?
Very good question, thank you Qutaiba. Where is it going to be built? Last we heard the government was fighting about this in summer.
The new Kuwait International Airport terminal will be located south of the existing terminal,
between the two existing runways, but with all road and public transport links gained from the
south via a new highway connecting to the Sabhan Road and the new 7th Ring Road.
Doesn’t it look like Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi!!?!?! Some people lacking imagination!!
If they finished the project before I die I will sing this song

Sisqo – Thong Song
Not to sound as yet another pessimist but how can you have a World Class airport when the national airline is in the mess that it is in? Unless the renders above are a mistake and the aircrafts were supposed to be Jazeera, Emirates, Qatar etc.
in our PM era? dont count on it
Looks great when empty, I wonder how it would look when packed?
like a giant thong when seen from above. MPs might just ban it.
Even signing with a contractor wont mean that it will be done. how many projects stooped after signing?! 4th refinery! Sheikh Jaber hospital!
am trying to be optimistic but their not helping.
What one can sense from reading this blog, that alot of people have no confidence in this government. Likewise, until I see cranes, people actually building the project, I no longer believe anything they say renderings or not, they’re too self-serving.
This project is currently being designed by Gulf Consult not KEO.
“Drawing on the region’s culture of hospitality and welcoming guests to Kuwait, the
design establishes an elegant and memorable arrival sequence for passengers, which
includes a baggage reclaim area surrounded by cooling cascades of water.””the landscaping is a lush oasis, with strands of drier planting and species native to the desert climate extending further away from the terminal.” Really? This is too unbelievable, waterfalls at the baggage claim compared to what we go through now? No not buyin it, not buyin it.This is like a dream. Lush oasis of landscaping? Have you seen the landscaping all over Kuwait? Say what? Not happin, sorry don’t believe it.
That is some good news….but we first have to deal with the problems of smoking in the airport and having the airport clean not dirty like it is right now….these little things have a big impact on what people think of the country once they come here, cuz the airport is like the main gate to the country….it’s not only about what the new terminal looks like it’s about having law and order at least inside the airport
I once had an incident in the airport, I was traveling, and a foreigner comes to me, he seamed new to the country…:
He said: is there smoking in this cafe?!
I said: no
He said: then why are most of the people smoking in here?!
And he just went ahead and started smoking
Another example is how dirty our bathrooms in the airport are…not only the bathroom but the hole airport even
If they want to do something, they should do something about these things before they ever even start thinking about building a new terminal
Definately even if this airport starts construction and completes, this country will need two airports, not one. It if feasible to request that the present airport be overhauled because it is an embarrassment to the country. I often wonder why there are all these cleaning workers all over the country, doing what, the bathrooms at the airport are filthy, the country is filthy and it seems futile to continue with the large amounts of these nationals in employment. I don’t see these people picking up trash all over Dubai because they have litter laws. Hmmmmmm. If the people running the country don’t respect the country, then the people won’t, people want law enforcement.I would also hire a new foreign management company to run your airport like in other GCC countries.
You sure get ALOT of comments on anything to do with the Kuwait Airport. It must be important to ALOT of people living in Kuwait. PARLIAMENT…YOU READING THIS?
I agree with u…but about having a new airport, frankly I c that the current airport needs to be shut down cuz of all the residential and industrial areas around it, this is not a place where u should have an airport, I don’t c it right where u have a plain flying so low to land in an airport right next to where u live…in the past they were going to build it in the place where you have entertainment city (madinat tarfeheya) but they didn’t
I say let them just move it back to al nezha area back to where it used to be in the past ;p…just kidding lol

What is confusing to me is that I don’t think that I have ever been in any airport anywhere in the world where the airport catered to visitors more than passengers like Kuwait Airport. Airports should be for passengers not guests?#$#@
