One of the cameras I have my eyes on is the new Nikon D800. It just got announced earlier in the month and is slated to hit the shelves around the world in March. According to the local Nikon dealer they’re expecting to get the camera (if everything goes according to plan) by mid March. I’m going to upgrade my D90 to the D800 as soon as it’s released so can’t wait.

So, whats so special about it!?
i still dont get the difference!
The difference between which two? The D800 and..?
I’m guessing it’s full frame?
It’s a full frame… But mark don’t you think 36 megapixels is too much?… They said that RAW pictures will render at 90MB, but hopefully they’ll have a choice like RAW small and RAW medium like in the Canon 5D Mark II, and not like Nikon camera’s with only RAW available… I own a D7000, it’s a great camera.
36MP for me is too much but for studio photographers or proffesional landscape photographers I’m sure they need it. I think I will be shooting at 16MP 90% of the time. I don’t need 36MP unless I guess I’m shooting something that is too far and I want to be able to zoom in a crop…
Hey just checked, RAW files will be 76MB on the D800. Still a lot but slightly better than 90MB.
Yea, the less the better.
How much is going to cost in Ashraf?
not sure but there is like a KD10 difference between the D90 on Amazon and the D90 in Kuwait. Hopefully it’s going to be close. Wouldn’t mind paying “a bit” more and getting it locally.
I agree with that.

I can’t really see a pattern here. Some are way more expensive, 1 is cheaper, 1 is nearly the same, most 25kd more expensive. I’m hoping D800 won’t be too expensive.
in the states P300 actually costs 92kd before tax

Do you know what is the features and specifications ??
this will help u https://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikonD800/
This would be a great opportunity to upgrade to D700 as a a lot of people would abandon their D700s to upgrade to D800.
I considered it but it’s going to be my first full frame camera and i dont upgrade that often so it’s worth just getting the D800.
for me too.
How many nonprofessional photographers actually need a full frame? I don’t think I’ll be upgrading my beloved D300 to another DSLR. The photography world is changing… A lot of excitement in the mirrorless models and with more lens options over the next year or so, the end is near for the chunky DSLRs.
It’s a want more than a need but I wouldn’t compare a mirror less to a full frame camera, not yet at least. Right now I still need a mirror less which is what I’ve replaced my p&s with and i still need a dslr because it offers a completely different shooting experience compared to mirror less.
Looking forward to your review and some test shots. Gongrats in advance 🙂
I am looking forward to the release of the D800, but I don’t know if I can afford the memory card that can handle the insane 36.6 MP images.
But imagine the cropping you could do with that kind of resolution.
I’m not interested in 36MP and will most likely be shooting with half that.
Mark if you are planning to use half of D800’s pixel strength, I would suggest you go for a used D700. I dont see any other major difference between the two (apart from video). D800E could have a better/clearer results but still I dont exactly know how difference is there.
If I didn’t need the video I would have purchased the D700 3 years ago. Also the D700 has only 95% coverage while even the D300 has 100%.
I just emailed local dealer to see if i can get my hands on the D700. That way I can review the D700 and then be able to do a comparison with the D800
Did you finally get the d800? I was thinking to upgrade from the d90 to D600, for video footage and photography as well…what do u think? is it possible to put ur hands on a camera and try it for a while before purchasing it as u said? I’m in kuwait too
While you are waiting for this ! i am waiting for my my Nokia 808 41 Megapixel camera cell phone XD… uhhh i hate waiting
Comparing canon 1Dx and nikon d4, I’ll wait for the 5d mk2 replacement
I’m sure it will be great but I’m a Nikon guy and will always be one 🙂
The force is strong in this one…
HUZAH! NIKON TO THE END!
Can’t wait for it to get here.. been waiting for Nikon to come up with a camera for some serious work.. I really could use the extra 24mps and the video features…
I am dreading the bigger file size from the D800 but I guess I will have to upgrade from 16gb mem cards to 32gb and maybe even get a few TB of extra storage space.. Storage of these large files can be a real pain.. I’m expecting 70-80mb raws..
BTW Mark, if your getting a D800, bare in my mind full frame camera’s don’t use SD Cards, they use SD Professional or Extreme SD Cards… I suggest getting these two bad boys if you don’t mind paying extra.

This is a price you have to deal with my friend if your willing to get a full frame.
The D800 uses regular SD cards alongside regular CF cards.
Oh didn’t know that lol.
They literally just officially announced the 5d Mark III, if your gonna spend big maybe you should reconsider, even though your a nikon guy!
both cameras are great any how
They’re basically both exactly the same except the D800 has higher megapixels while the 5D has higher iso. but the D800 comes in at $500 cheaper so really not much there to convince a Nikon user to swap even though I would prefer the lower megapixel in favor of higher iso.
