I really really like the idea of the online catalogs but only those my age or older might understand why. Back in the 80s before online shopping, the way we used to shop from the US was by mail-order. I think that’s how Aramex Shop & Ship started because they had this service as well. We used to get these large fat mail-order catalogs of US brands like Sears, JC Penny, Lands’ End etc.. and you’d place an order by mail and receive it a few months later. Very nostalgic.

Hey Mark,
The list is missing Digital Catalogs of H&M, Monki and a few others. You can use the link below to add them if you like 🙂
https://www.alshaya.com/en/customer-zone/kuwait/online-catalogues/
Thanks!
Monki is the only one missing will add it now. H&M have an online store so no need for a catalog
How can i order online from next ?
Hi Mark, can you please update the Harvey Nichols Catalogue link to the below
https://www.alshaya.com/campaigns/OnlineCatalogues/HNK/hnk_2020_04_15.pdf
Hi Team, I would like to shop online from American Eagle. How do I go about it?
50000 yes fifty thousand al Shaya workers laid off……mean while al Shaya execs evacuated from their homes in Switzerland…… ya buy online while 1000s plea for food through the pino churches
You’re complaining because people got laid off because business is slow but you also don’t want people to support those businesses? You see the issue right?
Well, Alshaya being the largest retailer in the Middle East have a moral & a social obligation towards its society and the people it employs.
but what Alshaya did was dirty. They could have handled it well. could have docked salaries of all the employees and carried on for a month or two before laying off people.
Shaya thought like a proper business with no moral obligation or responsibility towards its employees and let people go in the first month itself.
later docked salaries of employees who are left behind.
Didn’t give a dime about the employees who must have collectively made the company billions of KD throughout the years.
It’s just wrong.
Also, there are so many companies in Kuwait who always follow Alshayas footsteps right from giving public holidays. They followed suit and have laid off their employees as well.
So what Alshaya did was dirty and set a terrible example for companies to follow.
And… just to add..
There were people who were hired by Alshaya before the lockdown. Who put in their resignation in their companies and were serving notice period before shifting jobs.
The got calls from Alshaya HR and were told that they will not be hired leaving them stranded.
Ethical blunder!
Guy, you’re simplifying the issue as if this is a small problem the world is going through. Whatever decision they made they wouldn’t have made it without considering all options. Do you think if your solution would have worked they wouldn’t have gone for it? If they’ve stopped hirings and if they’re letting people go it’s not because they want to. If you think otherwise you’re just being naive.
Just today Disney announced they wouldn’t be paying over 100,000 of their employees. Are they unethical as well? https://www.bbc.com/news/business-52349729
The US currently has their highest unemployment rate since the great depression, are all those companies letting go of their employees also unethical? https://www.vox.com/2020/4/16/21223049/unemployment-filings-high-great-depression
This has nothing to do with ethics, this is a business problem. There is a pandemic at the moment and businesses that can’t sustain the shutdown and are closing or downsizing. Just go to news.google.com and search for “unemployment rate” and look at how many countries are hitting their highest rate ever.
I do not think layoffs are unusual it is expected. But when you discriminate and most of your layoffs end up being from Arabs, women and minorities while your elivated British fellows and their friends are having fun then you’ve got issues.
I agree to everything you’ve written.
but a point to note is that in all the countries like US, Canada and UK etc, you could claim unemployment benefits.
In UK, even the biggest companie are making use of govts forlough scheme where the govt bears 80% salary of the employees.
Gulf is different. Here when an employee, mainly an expat is let go, there’re no benefits from the govt. Time is ticking for them, they have like 3 months to get their residence transferred. With current pandemic, no one would be hiring. The expats can’t self sponsor themselves. the only option they have is to go back. Regardless of what many may think, majority of expats can’t afford to go back.
Letting people go is an option and a viable one. All I’m saying is it shouldn’t have happened this early. Not in a major big company like Al Shaya at least. They could have come up with a better solution and postponed the terminations by a month or two. Taken a bit bit of financial dent for its employees.
You may have seen a lot of major companies donating to fight this pandemic in Kuwait. It’s not business always, they do it for ethics and their moral and social responsibility.
When you’re a major company, you are bound to have some value.
Ain’t that the truth – Shaya employees have been let go – 3 months salary but no way to leave the country !
50000 seriously?? I thought 5000. I.e. five thousand
They have like 60,000 employees so obviously they didn’t let go of 50,000. Don’t believe everything you read online by angry anonymous people who leave comments on blogs…
And you just edited the comment ?
Doublespeak hasn’t stopped yet – has it ?
Edited what comment?
I do not know exactly how many people were laid off and I understand it is a tough time for retail.
But the way Alshaya did it was catastrophic. people did not get a chance to speak to somebody and the criteria for choosing who leaves and who stays was questionable and unfair as the decision was too fast and the selection process was poorly managed and not monitored.
My heart aches for a lady with a big family who was called from her home to be told she’s out and the only thing she got is a jerky look from her abusive boss.
I am not saying we boycott Alshaya but I would also not praise them. Respect your employees people we’re all in this together.
Hi, do you know if any bookstore delivers in Kuwait?
That Al Salasil, Afaaq Bookstore and Spectrawide deliver.
Thank you for compiling them.
Hey Mark!
Thanks for the constant updates and helpful resources.
I assumed your posts would stop once the lockdown took place weeks ago, but you’re using your own personal time to remain helpful without anything in return. I really appreciate it especially taking influencers into consideration who are prioritizing their income (not criticizing, just stating the obvious difference).
yeah i also assumed my posts would stop especially with the curfew and all but luckily still finding lots of content
If Im not mistaken there is monetized content on this site.
Yes there is https://248am.com/category/promoted/
Yehhhhhh❤️❤️❤️❤️
Its great.
Hey Mark, Starbucks has a catalogue for their at-home products as well https://www.alshaya.com/campaigns/OnlineCatalogues/STARBUCKS/starbucks-kwt_2020_04_15.pdf
For people who are running out of coffee at home 🤓
Link doesn’t work
Link doesnt work. And Starbucks doesnt offer beans via Deliveroo!
good, who buys beans from Starbucks anyway?
Ordered something from Mothercare in mid-March. Almost been a month, still isn’t delivered from Kuwait to Kuwait – culprit being Aramex who are absolutely useless and most irritating with the customer service.
Package is with them since 25-March. Strange part is, they delivered within 3 days a package from the UAE!
I have the same exact issue. Ordered on 24 March from mothercare and no sign until now. Not even a tracking link or email with details
Where are the men’s colognes in the Debenhams catalogue?!
Dior’s Fahrenheit? Paco Black XS? I’m running low! need a refill xD
Try fresh water and deodorant.
I’m running low on deodorant too!

Does William sonoma have a catalogue with the ither stores?
Sadly no
We just need automated drones for delivery.
They should also install automated pickup lockers in each block something like Amazon has in London.
There has been a flurry of online shopping and online apps.
If some of you have time while hanging out at home I suggest a good read by Shoshana Zuboff, entitled The Age of Surveillance Capitalism.
Thanks for the book rec.
Or just as easy watch a youtube with her, more interesting as you see the Professor in live.

I remember those catalogues. They were so heavy and we had to register to get a copy or else browse the one at the company’s office.
Funny how things come back full circle.
Virgin Megastore has WhatsApp delivery too. Their number is 90015336
