Behind the scenes of the Central Control Room

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has started the implementation of a comprehensive plan to ease traffic jams and congestion and lessen road accidents, which includes 15 projects aimed at ensuring smooth flow of traffic throughout the country through the installation of CCTV cameras to closely monitor the traffic movement.

One main aspect of these projects is the functioning of the Central Control Room (CCR) of the Operations Department at the General Department for Traffic Affairs in the Ministry of Interior. Currently, there are more than 300 intersections in Kuwait and the CCR is connected to and can control 180 of the main intersections through 72 cameras, with near future plans to sign a contract to install an additional 100 CCTV cameras at various locations.

One thing I’m curious about after watching this news report is why nothing is being done to stop people from driving down the emergency lanes on the highways. It’s an issue that happens frequently and one that doesn’t seem to be dwindling down.

just because cameras installed doesn’t mean that the goverment employee is watching it. He or she is most likely using whatsapp/instagram and other more useful things.

Incredible. Arab ingenuity never ceases to amaze me.
I’m sure it’s a state secret, but I can’t help wonder how they are able to install 72 cameras in over 180 locations (3:57-4:10).
Good Jeebus, just think how much the CIA could save by implementing this hitherto impossible scenario. It must be black friggin’ magic.
Well done, Kuwait!

I think they intentionally do not mind people driving on the emergency lanes during rush hour to allow traffic to clear quicker. Kuwait needs to build elevated roads over current highways as has been done in USA to ease traffic flow and to develop new business and residential districts with significantly cheaper rental rates to encourage people to move there.

Apparently gulf net users are having difficulty getting in your blog- it’s been blocked. Did you know this mark? Maybe there is a way round this for them…
Have you upset someone? ๐Ÿ™‚

Just read up about this here https://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/dubai-police-s-new-radar-can-record-eight-violations-1.1320475

“The new radar can record eight violations: vehicles speeding, vehicles going below the speed limit, vehicles not leaving enough distance between other vehicles, drivers not wearing the seat belt, drivers using their mobile phone, heavy vehicles not abiding by their designated lanes, heavy vehicles that are on the road outside their designated timings and vehicles driving on the hard shoulder”

Mind blown!!

Most video cameras at intersections with traffic lights are there for the control of the traffic lights. The video camera are wired into a computer which is programmed to recognize automobiles on the road approaching and stopped at the intersection. The computer adjusts the timing of the traffic lights based on observable traffic on the various approaches to the intersection.
