If it’s not a joke or photoshop-ed in any way, and it didn’t take the fellow in the pic to solve the situation with a phone call, than i think we have found kuwait’s new minister of interior. When will we have people pulled over, fined, and/or have their licenses revoked for not having their kids strapped in while driving and using their phones and doing above 120 in a 120 zone? I have often thought of getting out of my car and addressing such situations at traffic lights, but opted to ignore it only because i know what the response would be: If you don’t like it, go home. I don’t care if you’re a kuwaiti, indian, egyptian, american or a martian. The law is the law, and it’s there for a reason. Yeah, yeah, I know. I should go home!

What’s up with the attack of the National Assembly on expatriates in the press the last two days?Both yesterday and today in the newspapers.
The government is trying to minimize the number of expats in the country – 30,000 expats will be fired from the public sector. But what they need to do is build a huge deportation centre because the jail can’t handle the numbers, and round up all the illegals that their nationals (visa traders) have thrust on the economy. I bet that 1/3 of expats in the country are illegal. As far as the public sector, I agree with them on that one, but it is their fault because they never jumpstarted the development plan which would generate new jobs and jumpstart the economy.
A huge percentage of the Kuwaiti population is going to be entering the workforce in the next 10 years or so, like 50% of the entire population. They’ve always had the excuse of a small job market for the reason that they fill a lot of positions with expats, now that there are increasingly larger amounts of unemployed youths every year they figure it’s time to start making space for them unless they want them to roam the streets. When you have 2/3rds of the country being foreign the easy answer is to give their jobs to locals.
This has been going on for a while though, banks and telecoms have been gradually firing all non-essential foreign staff because their mandated Kuwaiti quota is much higher than other sectors, and I remember more than 5 years ago they said they were going to fire non-essential expats in the public sector, they’ve just been really slow at it.
I keep hearing arguments against it but don’t buy any of them, you can’t expect a mature workforce if you don’t force them to do the shitty jobs too.
And min wage for each shitty jobs should be 500-700 kd or 1500 kd ?
No they should be shitty wages. Don’t reward people for dropping out of highschool.
