Kuwait International Circuit Renderings

track1

Looks like all my posts today will be car related which I guess is appropriate since theres a Formula 1 race taking place today. There are renderings of a Kuwait racetrack that are being circulated on whatsapp, supposedly of the proposed Kuwait International Circuit. The following text is attached with the images:

تم اعتماد حلبة الكويت الدولية كحلبة للجائزة الكبرى GP للفورمولا ون.
موقعها بيكون على جون الكويت بالقرب من محطة الدوحة للكهرباء. طولها 6.3 كيلو وتتكون من اربع مسارات:
GP Track
West Track
East Track
Outter Track

The Arabic text basically talks about the location of the circuit which will be near the Doha power station and the different specs of the race track. Sadly though, these renderings aren’t official nor is the information. This track design was actually done by a Reddit user who goes by the handle Cssnsm and who just likes creating race circuits for fun. In fact, you can check out his original post of this circuit along with a fictional story he created to go along with it [Here]

If you just want to see the renderings, here is the [Link]

I hope we do actually get a race circuit some day, last year a circuit design was finalized and presented to proper authorities for approval but since then haven’t heard anything about it.

Update: A contact just passed me a video of Kuwait Motor Town which supposededly is set to start construction in September. I couldn’t find any information on this online other than this video so not sure how accurate this information is.

Its weird, as they announced that the land for track (including F1) and drag strips … etc, has been allocated and got all approvals in Arifjan. Even drawings/designs got approved with its bydget from Diwan amiri.

Such projects work for intra and mass tourism as a business module for any country, so imagine a place like Kuwait which is not a destination for neither and domestically cannot rally the numbers to make it operational. I worked for the Bahrain Grand Prix and the challenge is not putting together a circuit, it’s attracting footfall and done part of a full country festivals / concerts etc ecosystem to attract tourism. i.e People go to the world cup not just to watch the game, but what happens around the world cup in the hosting country.

Look at Bahrain, despite is proximity to Saudi (a bridge away), GCC, Openness as a culture with a night life, yet struggling to fill seats (even before the uprising). Also, after YAS Marina Circuit opened it was the last nail in the coffin of Bahrain Grand Prix.

So tell me again how will it work for Kuwait? whats the proposition? If Faisal is correct and it’s a project championed by the Amiri Diwan, then this proves that there was no feasibility study and just a tap opened to fund regardless.

It doesn’t have to host forumula 1 races only, you can have a small track that caters to the local population who want to go out on weekends with their sport cars and race around the track.

Yup agree, that is what is done on the circuit through out the year everywhere else. But from a financial standpoint it wont suffice, also embeds the question of: why building an international F1 level circuit if they wont do it? in your re-post from social media and the design it’s clear that they are aiming for the Grand Prix etc.

If they wanted a good circuit to blow out some steam, a small tournament like a quarter mile track or smaller, maybe GP2 series or even F4 then they could have just build a good track without the extravagant plan circulating.

The Formula One body take huge royalties to enter a market and then on every Grand Prix, this is whats financially draining.

So if F1, it’s destined to fail, if less in category, maybe..a Huge Maybe also.

I completely agree 100%. Its a exciting a fun idea, but theres no way for it to make profit with the lack of tourism.

Your point is 100% valid. However, im sure that the mandate of this track is to host the population of local automotive talents and to legalize it. Man, on most weekends we drive our cars or take them on trailers all around GCC (BIC, YAS, and reem circuits),,, step on podiums and come back to Kuwait!!! ON OUR COST! BUT we can not do it here as we don’t have a track nor drag strip !

So for me, and my fellow automotives professionals/amateurs we totally appreciate this initiative and we look forward it

Yeah and I have heard that they are building a replica of Jurassic Park with live dinosaurs and all…………….

You can find information about Kuwait motor town on the Central Tenders Committee website: https://www.ctc.gov.kw

The website is structured in such a way that there are no direct links to the desired page, therefore you will have to navigate to it manually:

– Select English
– Then Tenders -> Tender Advertisement
– Search by Organization: Amiri Diwan

You will get a single entry for the motor town. You can download the RFP document with all specifications and technical details. The zip file is more than 300MB and contains a wealth of information.

The video is quite accurate of the plans.

But I honestly don’t know why they are doing such a grand project. Don’t get wrong I’m a car enthusiast at heart and would probably regularly track a car if it gets built. But why don’t they build something simpler like on the same level as Dubai autodrone or Reem circuit.

There are many awesome tracks from around the globe thst are track day friendly but not f1 certified, mid Ohio and mugello are two of the many that just came to my mind.

I guess the people that area in charge of this don’t live out there. When the wind blows in the direction of the race track from the power station, it’s going to smell like rotten eggs
