Toyota GT86

Last week I posted about my experience with the Subaru BRZ and a good friend of mine just posted about his experience with the Subaru’s twin brother, the Toyota GT86. It’s a very short one liner review but he’s got a ton of great pictures which you can check out [Here]

In the GCC there is no “GT”,its named as Toyota 86.
Though on mulikiya’s in UAE they are still writing GT86 even though its not the official name O_o

The car is unfortunately too heavy. It needs to be several hundred kgs lighter.

I know safety is a concern, but it’s still simple to use light material that is safe. The point of the car is to be driven and not crashed. How is it a sports car if it is handicapped for people expecting them to crash?

Also the tires are really thin. If they cared about people not crashing then they would not skimp out on the tires.

Personally I would prefer to buy a light car frame and start from their with a rear mid engine layout like other super sports cars. I am not sure why people buy these ‘tuner’ cars. If they are racers they might as well build it from the ground up. And not waste money on these cars. Even if this car gets tuned I doubt it would beat a car designed properly for racing. So what’s the point then?

The Elise is a completely different car to the 86… the 86 is a daily driver whereas the Elise would shake every bone in your body if driven around on Kuwaiti roads.

Moreover, at the 86’s price point, it is clearly a car for the tuning crowd.

overall its a great car and again can’t be compared to an elise. F/R sports car vs M/R Track toy?, apples and oranges?

🙂 I understand both are different cars, I was just referring to the weight. Most of the guys buying an 86 for track use would strip out the interiors and get rid of all the extra padding, stereo, electric seats etc to save weight. So for them this car would be really overweight to begin with.

Can anyone tell me why the hell the GT-86 at Toyota right now costs a whopping 9,400 K.D ?

Whaat ? it’s way over priced if you ask me even if it’s brought in at limited numbers.
