Whats the 5th Ring Road Construction for?

If you’ve driven on the 5th Ring Road recently you might have noticed all the construction work and diversions taking place near Qurtoba and Siddiq. The reason behind it is they’re currently working on a major traffic reducing project that will be composed of tunnels, underpasses and bridges on two levels. The new project will remove a bunch of traffic lights at the current intersections to help eliminate the traffic they cause as well as create a traffic-free ride from the 5th Ring Road to the new Sheikh Jaber Hospital.

To get a better idea of how the project will look like, you can watch the 3D presentation below taken from the project website RA257.

The 5th ring road has caught the evil eye since 2-3 years. As soon as someone finishes fixing it, somebody else comes over and breaks it down, to fix it back up again.

Absolute waste of money, everyone’s seen how useless these extra roads are during rush hour. They even block the straight through traffic. This is more bandaids on a bigger problem which is urban planning. More roads, more bridges, more asphalt is not the answer.

The answer is to figure out better transportation options, zone areas properly, focus on moving on from fuel based transport and invest in the future.

And no one even talks about how it’s 4 lanes, the lanes disappear and then it’s 5 lanes. I feel like I’m the only one who thinks that it’s dangerous.
It’s the same in route 30.

Hi Mark, Im having trouble with scrolling on your blog via my phone. The page loads and the first post shows but when i try to scroll lower it doesnt scroll as if that is the end of the page. Im using the iphone 13 pro safari browser.

Thanks a lot for publishing this article, I was wondering since last 1 month, when this work will be over.. But now it seems will go longer and hopefully new construction will be very helpful to all 🙂

Thanks and keep it up man !

Those vehicles stuck on the Interchange M9 (St. 27 & St. 16) & M10 (St. 50) are cursing the ongoing traffic
