Deliveroo vs Carriage: Which is Faster?

Now that Deliveroo has been operating for sometime I wanted to see how they’d match up with Carriage on delivery speed. So, I decided I’d place an order with both services at the exact same time and see which would get to me faster. The first step was to find a restaurant that was on both services, for that I decided to go with Eighty Six.

I ordered the same item on both Carriage and Deliveroo which was “The Scrambled” sandwich and I put the delivery address as my office which is down the street from Eighty Six.

So which got here faster?

Before placing an order I checked the estimated delivery times on both and they had Eighty Six listed with the following average delivery time:

Deliveroo: 15-25 mins
Carriage: 25-30 mins

Order was submitted at 12:58PM for both.

While tracking the drivers to my office, the Carriage app suddenly stated that the order had been delivered to me. Carriage drivers have a habit of marking an item as delivered before they get delivered which is annoying. Then my phone rang and I looked outside my office and spotted the Deliveroo driver there. So I opened the door and as the deliveroo driver was handing me my order, the elevator door opened behind him and the Carriage driver was there also with my order.

Conclusion of my very unscientific test? Both Deliveroo and Carriage were exactly the same speed in this occasion which is why I feel like I kinda have to turn this experiment into a best of 3. So stay tuned for a second run at this.

I agree, from my experience after ordering several times on Carriage, Talabat and Deliveroo, Deliveroo always is on time which is very nice. Who likes to have cold food?

Which one had the food hotter?
Which one had the food more intact and not messed up?

I also want to know what was the drivers’ reaction lol

Both the same, both were warm actually which is surprising cuz Eighty Six is down the street from me so I would have expected my order to arrive hot.

I think the issue besides delivery time is customer service. I’m sure this is coincidental but ever since Deliveroo launched I’ve had an issue with Carriage drivers and delivery times. Every time I’ve tried Live Chat with a customer service rep on Carriage they’ve been unhelpful, take forever to reply or completely ignore me. One time I just wanted to know if the driver had picked up the food and the rep replied with “We let the restaurant know, they’ll call you” (they never do). I’m not sure why he didn’t just ask the restaurant that simple question.

Oh Deliveroo for sure have them beat with customer service, I think they have an automated system where if the order is late they refund automatically. My pinkberry orders for example get refunded right away whenever it’s late.

Hello Dan .. If u r food late from carriage you call the call center not the live chat to check with the driver and dont close the phone stay on the line with them .. if its late and cold tell the call center i want new food and feesh not cold one and return my money back .. they will return the money to ur account in the app directly or to ur bank from 3 – 7 days its up to you which kne u choose ? Dont be afraid from them .. u r a customer and the right is always with u .. yesterday I ordered from carriage and its late for 20 mns when its arrived its cold i asked for new fresh and hot order .. and i talk to the call center to give me money back because it’s their problem they will solve it for u .!

well sir my food arrived from a restaurant down the road apparently over an hour + late. i didnt want the food then because it arrived 12 instead of 10, i then got a well icant do anything for you reply from carriage. which is why i dont use them except in emergencies,

another example i ordered a cake for a birthday in damam, and i tried several times to find out what happend to it andi still to this day do not have any answer or a refund because it never arrived at the requested location.

To be the fastest is always a plus but it is ok if there is slowness during rush hours; our roads can be that bad. The main thing is customer service, Deliveroo is doing great while carriage don’t give a damn. I had carriage agents ignore me or even making false promises (someone will call you to make it up to you and none will call)

I think you should try again with a far restaurant like 45 mins away so there will be a bigger gap between the deliveries

For sure, I’ll order to my home next time. But I’m wandering if I should always order from Eighty Six so we have some sort of connection in the test? What do u guys think? 3 different restaurants delivered to same location, or same restaurant delivered to 3 different locations? Or 3 different restaurants delivered to 3 different locations?

Try restaurants with heavy demand that’s on both apps – should show the reaction of restaurants to the delivery services as well.

I think the location should be the same, if that is where you are going to want to eat the food most of the time.

I think it should be 3 different restaurants though, especially further away.

So overall, I vote for same location, 3 different restaurants for a first time type of ‘competition’ because then you are only changing one variable in the equation.

If you wanna do it again, use another account/without your name on it. I bet they will read this post and be prepared for your name since you will post results.

I Have a feeling that carriage and just maybe deliveroo are watching this post and have 10 drivers waiting an order from the account possibly hire usain to run to and from the bike

I’ve ordered from Deliveroo about 4/5 times and all the times I’ve had my money refunded because they were late. Sometimes even 3 minutes late. Made me feel bad actually. Only thing I miss about carriage is that Deliveroo drivers ring the door bell instead of calling and saying that they are outside. I know it’s weird but I got so used to it.

Nice one, but I think it is better to share the time of arrivals so we can compare the promised time vs actual time.

Carrige stole money from me yesterday and even when I showed them my bank strement they said go to our head office and file a claim

I ordered KNET but the order didn’t show up because of a Glitch they have that they don’t want to admit to.

Going to deliveroo (free delivery, VERY fast, and great customer service)

I like having the choice to use either. Right now I use both around as much and the competition is making the experience better and cheaper.

Carriage customer service is the worst.

I ordered food and then tried to cancel almost immediately because my family member was willing to pick us up food.

They told me the carriage driver was already on the way so they can’t cancel. They then informed the driver to toggle that he was on the way, even though he wasn’t. They refused to let me cancel the order.

I still prefer Talabat over Carriage. At least the drivers make it to the front door and not lazily missed call from the street like Carriage mostly do.

Talabat is the worst in terms of delivering on time. out of 10 orders just 1 order will arrive on the stated time.

waiting time in live chat of carriage is very very long. There is no comparison.

Delivero has much better customer service they even call to check if i gave a bad review or something happened.

I ordered from carriage yesterday. The driver made the item delivered 25-30 mins before he was actually there and he was late as usual. He was also late picking up the order as the app showed ready for pickup and it took ages for him to do so. Carriage has been so bad lately I don’t think I’m ever going to use them again. Their customer service are useless too. Had to call 3 times after the expected delivery time (and each was 10 mins apart approx.). I filed a complaint and no one even called (as usual). They take so much money from the restaurant and the customer for shitty service which is totally unacceptable. If you cant provide enough drivers just don’t take more orders or change the estimated delivery time!

I cant speak for Deliveroo since I havent tried them out yet, but I have only had good customer service experiences with Carriage. The times I’ve had to contact them was always a fault of the restaurants – wrong item delivered or missing items. Carriage replied immediately on live chat and my orders were refunded/credited immediately and another time the restaurant called me back within minutes and had a new order sent to me within a shorter delivery time than the original order.

Next time order from someone else’s account. Since you’ve posted about it now, both apps would be prepared to serve you. probably marked your username if flagged as top priority or VIP. No business wants bad press.

It will make ZERO difference in delivery speed if I order from my account or someone else’s. My complaints might get handled differently but that’s about it. If I did get priority delivery or something like that, my orders would never be late.

I meant after posting this on the blog they might be prepared for your orders and may have flagged your username as top priority. it is possible.

I ordered from RHS yesterday through Deliveroo. The delivery time mentioned was 25 – 35 mins but I got my food after 60 mins. I wouldn’t really have complained but the fries were stale and cold.
gave a feedback mentioning the fries were cold and the delivery was late and got back a % as return for fries and the full order amount as credit for next order.

Full order amount without even me demanding it. that was pretty sweet. hugely impressed. Didn’t even have to call. all on the app.

I have been ordering food in fahaheel from talabat for years, sometimes the food is cold but their customer support is very helpful if you don’t like the food can refuse to accept the order and get refund. I like talabat very much because they listen to all the concerns and talk with the restaurant so they don’t make the same mistakes. Even will follow up inform you that they have spoken with the restaurant. One thing I don’t like is they don’t accept my order feedback reviews. My favorite restaurant is McDonalds but they charge 0.750 for delivery so I expect hot & fresh food to be delivered to my doorstep.

Deliveroo is absolutely THE BEST!!! Great cusotmer service, very fast delivery and FREE delivery!! I’m used to paying KD 1 for carriage and so this is GREAT!!
And they keep giving credit which i loveeeeee and their tactic is working cz i order from deliveroo almost once in 2 days now haha
