Whopper Virgins

Whopper Virgins

This is definitely definitely definitely one of my favorite ad campaigns ever. Burger King hired independent researchers to travel to remote places around the world and find people who have no clue what a McDonalds or Burger King is and who have never eaten a burger and then have them try both the Whopper and the Big Mac and see which one they preferred. Its pure GENIUS! Its a very short touching and entertaining documentary which you can watch on the Whopper Virgins site and although I hate Burger King in Kuwait I think I am going to go have a Whopper for lunch tomorrow.

I LOVE IT so watch it! [Link]

The diffrents between a Whopper and Big mac dont need traviling because whopper is the winner without a question if its here or even in the eskimo .. the challange should be between the whopper and big tasty .

Ps :

I found Burger King has the same taste in every where .. except if you are missing the bacon slides .. !

Ok I always thought that marketing could go so far, but not that far. What the hell is left from the world? Looking for people who have never heard of burgers and shove it in their throats to get a comparison? How cheap is that?!

And what is the brilliance of it? Seriously Mark if you just thought about it and pitched it to your agency, you would have spent like a gizillion less budget just to do the same campaign but even better for the newly arrived east-Asians in the country.

One more thing; this guy, who said at the beginning that the hamburger is an American phenomenon, is just so wrong. It’s known that the origin of a hamburger is in Hamburg, Germany.

I honestly wouldn’t think of this campaign as brilliant, but a race of who can minimize the risk of ethical matters and maximize exposure the fastest. Of course it was won by BK.

I used to respect BK for not being very nice and creepy and tricky like McDonald. BK’s “the king” slogan and campaign was the best, but apparently greed is out there no matter what.

Never trust the fast food chains, they lie about everything from ingredients to overall health value of their processed foods. It is an American phenomenon by the way, because they created a big bang in franchise food chains based on trickery and false advertising.

Make your own burgers :P, or just go eat fish.

Salah:

Dude. The hamburger is an American phenomenon, it might’ve originated from Hamburg but the Americans took it to the limit and made it what it is today.

I think everyone who has issues with fast food chains needs to really just chill, its not like the corporations are introducing THC or anti-depressants into our foods. Its not like BK just destroyed a society of eskimos. Relax.

You live in a Muslim Country most of your blog members are Muslims and you don’t even tell wish them Eid Mubarak shame on you Mark and i don’t wish you a happy Christmas!

Burger King and McDonald’s can put an end to world hunger by promoting thier burgers! Then, whomever feeds the most people would have solved the world’s problem….great PR stint.

I’m really getting sick and tired of all these moronic posters, that are just negative and bite peoples’ asses for anything and everything.

Salah use your brain. Even though hamburgers were invented in Germany, does that mean that it’s a phenomenon in their country? It’s a phenomenon in the States, because it’s eaten much more and has become a part of American culture, along with the 1000’s of chains of restaraunts that serve them.

@montana86: Are you seriously that sad and pathetic, that you get mad when somebody doesn’t wish you a happy eid on a blog? And then proceed to not wish that person a blessing on his holidays (what if mark forgot to wish everyone, or has travelled or got hurt and cannot use a PC)? montana86 seriously, get a life ROFL!

I really think mark should start banning people that are just negative towards him and others in his blog.

well here in the middleeast, we’ve been called as the 3rd world, even though we are using the latest tecknology & devices, but after watching this short clip & how people that have no experience on how to eat a burger, iam wondering if we are the 3rd world, then what world those guys in clip belong to ? the 4th world ! i need a ANswer guys ….

I just returned from the States on Wednesday and have to admit that I was a little surprised by the ad when it aired. However, I just considered the country I was in and moved on. The ad is really smart and, IMO, does not poke fun at world hunger.

It is time to let the creativity flow in Kuwait, people!!

BK has always had great ads. their last one the ‘creepy king” was fucking amazing and the jokes it spawned were equally as hilarious. They made an xbox game about the king just to promote it!

@ Holla: Actually the BK xbox games, and a bunch of other games by pepsi, BK, and other well known brands were trying to cash in on the phenomena of advertising in videogames, by taking it to the next level, and making their own games that were advertisements, and they were giving them away for free with kid’s meals, or with six packs of soda.

But advertising in video games in general is a phenomena that’s been around for years now, but that’s another subject for another day, if you’re interested in the subject and have access to old issues of ArabAd magazine, check the December 2005 issue, there’s an article I wrote about ads in games there.

Yeah, I saw the ads when they first aired. However, I am interested to know where did they got their burgers if they went all the way to “remote” areas?!
I like the previous ones where they tell customers that they don’t have Whopper and hand them BigMac instead.

By the way, I don’t like BK and McDonald’s burgers that much. Many local restaurants burgers blow them away.

BK in Kuwait sucks, its like they fucking microwave ALL the food. They precook the burgers and then just heat them up with the microwave before they serve u. Thats why I prefer McDonalds who I dont think even have microwaves in their kitchens.

I’m wondering why they couldn’t put similar burgers up against each other. No one who knows anything thinks a whopper is the competitor to the big mac… They are like apples and oranges.. they aren’t even trying to be the same thing… Why not put a stripped down Burgerking burger against the same product from McDonlads.. This proves nothing.

I bet these people would prefer a Wendy’s burger anyway… There is a reason they didn’t put the whopper up against a double bacon cheeseburger… It would get destroyed… Most people buy double QP’s with cheese from McDonalds anyway… not big Macs… if you want a Big Mac… a Whopper is not an alternative… they taste completely different and are made with completely different ingredients. What an incredibly stupid add campaign. Then again, it is Burger King, so what do you expect.

I wanna see the same thing down with their french fries.. Burger King ‘fries’ taste like salted cardboard.

This ad campaign is sickening, exploitative, and wrong on so many levels. Burger King taking the Whopper to impoverished people around the globe is a crass intrusion of American culture, and a rubbing of their own poverty in their faces. It’s like saying, “Here, everyone else has this already, but you’re too poor and far away to be connected to the rest of the world.”

I’m sure that Burger King did absolutely nothing to aid these communities; indeed, they’ve exotified them as the perpetually backwards “other” who are only good for being test subjects in an advertising campaign for corporate America. Did these communities gain anything from this experience? Of course not. But Burger King is bringing in the dollars while the people they exploited to do so are still poor.

Seeeesh all this because of one ad?? Dammmm!!!!!!!!!!! screw going to a remote places. All BK and Mac’s have to do is sneeze in this blog and their ratings will hit the roof. Wow never heard the words hamburger , Big Mac, Whopper etc mentioned so many times at one time…LMAO

And people for the love of all things good… This is an Ad we are talking about .. does everything have to be overly scrutinized????
