No More Bunny

hungrybunny1

Hungry Bunny is a popular burger franchise that used to be open back in Kuwait during the 80s pre Burger King and McDonalds days. When Al Homaizi got the Burger King franchise, they shutdown all the Hungry Bunny locations and killed the brand. But the original creator of Hungry Bunny ended up launching the brand in Saudi Arabia and then a few years ago brought the brand back to Kuwait. Al Homaizi Group sued them and it now seems Hungry Bunny has been told to stop using the bunny logo until a verdict is reached in the court case.

I passed by Hungry Bunny for a quick bite yesterday and the majority of the items had the Hungry Bunny logo without the bunny (like in the placemats pictured above). But, some items like the burger wrapper still had the bunny on them. According to the shop manager this is just a temporary issue and the bunny will be coming back soon. They’ve even removed the bunny from the shop signage as well so it’s a pretty awkward mess right now.

Update: Al Homaizi have commented with the following:

Dear Mark and Loyal Hungry Bunny Customers,

It is great to see Hungry Bunny still having that nostalgic feeling within Kuwait and we thank you for your post which we appreciate and are proud of as the founders of the Hungry Bunny brand.

With regards to your post, we would like to mention that Hungry Bunny was developed in 1982 by Al Homaizi Foodstuff Co. in Kuwait and is 100% Kuwaiti.

As the first local franchise in Kuwait, Hungry Bunny led the way and opened the doors to decades of innovative local concepts within Kuwait which we are very proud to see are still growing today.

The Hungry Bunny restaurants that launched in and outside of Kuwait following 1997 were not the original Hungry Bunny developed by Al Homaizi Foodstuff Co.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal Hungry Bunny customers! We would love to hear more about your experiences and memories that you, your family and your friends had in the 80’s and 90’s at the much-loved Hungry Bunny.

Jahra location. Depends what your definition of good is. It’s not worth the drive obviously but I was on my way to boubyan island and decided to have hungry bunny for brunch.

I remember hungry bunny when I was a kid. Still some good memories. I bought a box of chicken fillet from hungry bunny when they where closing down. Was enough for 2-3 month while inviting my friends over to fry them together. That all I was still a kid. Like 10 yrs old.

I remember when Hungry Bunny was around, one time, they sold VHS movies with the kids meals and I remember getting Aladdin(the Disney one of course)Those were good times πŸ™‚

roast beef was my fav….. old amazing days, i miss that late 80s early 90s days πŸ™‚
golden era of kuwait history

used to eat it all the time when i was a kid.
coming to think about it, that bunny looks like he’s on the altitude of mount makalu.

What I hear is that closing Hungry Bunny for good was part of the deal to open Burger King. They should just sell the franchise, unless they are prohibited to sell it as well? Perhaps for a certain number of years?

I need someone to clarify something to me. Is Hungry Bunny a Kuwaiti created franchise? And the Saudi version an exact replica? Or the other way around.

I always thought it was created in Kuwait. If someone can clarify this for me and give me the complete back story, it would be great.

I was 7 when Hungry Bunny closed down πŸ™

hungry bunny is a kuwaiti concept made by fadwa al homaizi. I believe the idea was based off hungry jack in Australia. When al homaizi group decided to bring Burger King to kuwait they could not keep hungry bunny open as part of the deal. The one in Saudi Arabia is not made by the original owner. Also I don’t think al homaizi group would sell the franchise for hungry bunny because it would be stupid to create competition for themselves.

Yes Hungry Bunny was originally based off of Hungry Jack. But the Saudi Arabia Hungry Bunny is the same as the Kuwait Hungry Bunny. What I was told is the person responsible for Hungry Bunny (not the company that owned the brand but the person who created it in Kuwait) went and opened it in Saudi Arabia after Homaizi shut it down in Kuwait.

The person responsible for hungry bunny was fadwa. It was her idea and she’s the original creator. She hasn’t opened any new branches so I’m not sure who else could be the other creator.
