I just can’t understand why they chose to open in the Avenues. Don’t get me wrong i’m really excited that they’ll be opening soon in Kuwait but they sell breakfast food and it just doesn’t seem to make any sense that people will go to the Avenues for breakfast. I guess an argument can be made that they need a flagship to garner exposure in the market and advertise their food throughout Kuwait. Thereafter they can open other locations. I just hate the fact i’ll need to drive to the Avenues to get my iced cap fix.First world problems I guess.

I guess that’s true for places like Dean & Deluca, but do you think that people will come specifically to get a bagel and other breakfast items from Timmys? I mean I can definitely see the die hard Canadians waiting in line for that, but i’m not sure i’ll see to many patrons. We’ll have to see.

Lol; I seriously said the same thing when I saw that they opened in the Avenues. What’s even funnier is the image that they’ve presented in Kuwait, as if they’re a classy joint. Back home in the States most of the people eating at an IHOP just came from a night of bar hopping or are truck drivers who are passing through the city. If you want to know specifically who eats at IHOP just look up videos on YouTube. You will be entertained.

I studied in the US and IHOP was the place you went to when everything closed because nothing else was still open

There’s nothing wrong with a restaurant trying to improve it’s image.

This is Kuwait, not America. Get real homie.

Its IHOP, and they serve food. Whats so upscale or high end? There aren’t american truck drivers here or people to serve after they come from the bar.

It serves mostly breakfast restaurants, prices are reasonable here and its a clean place to eat. I don’t see any gold plated utencils……don’t get your panties in a bunch here guys.

Come on Doug have you ever seen a IHOP like the one in the Avenues? Its completely different from any IHOP in probably all the world. I was recently there and agree with you that the food is decent here but it has wood finishing, a stone edifice and high quality tables / chairs. I only was trying to point out that this imagine that their conjuring up is completely contradictory to what an average person’s expectations are for it in the US. Hence, this facade has been created for the purposes of “blending” in in Kuwait.
Will I go to the IHOP Grand Avenues in the future? Sure, but i’ll always have a bit of a smirk when I look around and think, six thousand miles away in another IHOP in Detroit Michigan there are probably two inebriated women fighting about how one looked at her man for too long (lol).

Well, Avenues has McDonalds.

We did a 1 month road trip in US last month, and appreciated the quick breakfast we could get in IHOP and Dennys. They are certainly not upscale, but I wouldn’t call them trash either. Perhaps middle-class?

The Avenues is packed full of walkers in the morning! Who needs the gym when who can drive to the Avenues in the morning and do your walking there. Seriously.
Then you grap a coffee and head home.

I agree…pretty bummed that it’s in the Avenues.. But now i can enjoy their breakfast muffins and all the good stuff 🙂 Tim FTW

Here’s my problem, McDonald’s coffee and Dunkin Donuts Coffee in the states has a much better taste than the franchise locations here. So my expectations for Tim Horton’s coffee is pretty dismal. Hope I’m proven wrong. There used to be Tim’s behind my house and would order a coffee everyday.

Avenues is the breakfast place. It is quite busy in the mornings. PQ, Dean and Deluca and Caribou especially.

In Dubai, I don’t think that Tim Hortons are located in malls, but in street locations. Is it because of a corrupt real estate market in Kuwait? I think many of your commentors are correct, why wasn’t this chain located in residential areas where local Canandians (fans) could get an easier access to their Tim Horton chains? Possibly they are outlining more street locations, but seems odd to place this franchise in the Avenues.

Also, I think the story of the day is that FLYDUBAI will be operating from the Sheikh Saad Terminal as of 15Sept13. Smart airlines! So long KIA, the worst run airport in the world!

There’s a Tim Hortons in Dubai Mall, so I’m not sure if your argument holds.

Mind you, there are other areas you can open restaurants that aren’t in malls; but if you are starting a franchise its best to put it in a location with the most foot traffic and that is definitely Avenues.

It is sad that au bon pain had to close to make way for a Tim Hortons, unless I am mistaken.

I like Tim Horton’s and IHop! It’s good to get a North American style breakfast at a decent price. They can’t have a drive thru in Kuwait, no cars would wait their turn. Seroiusly, we get honked at just going through McD’s . I notice people here do not eat in their cars , so a drive through may not be as profitable in this culture.

Thank God Tim Hortons is here. As a Canadian, I have been praying for Timmy’s to open. Now I don’t have to overindulge on coffee when I’m in Dubai or smuggle my sourcream glazed donuts into the country. I agree – Avenues is way to far, it needs to be close to offices. But I guess they need to familiarize Kuwait with its products and considering all of Kuwait is usually at the Avenues on the weekends, why not. The double double (2 sugars, 2 cream) doesn’t taste just right. It’s like 94% there. Hope they get it right on soon.
