Over the weekend Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced that they will manage a luxury hotel in Kuwait projected to open in 2028 (source). Mandarin Oriental, Kuwait will be located in a new iconic 80-story tower designed by the award-winning architects, Foster & Partners, the same architects behind the NBK headquarters building across the street from Hamra Tower. The hotel will feature 159 guestrooms, including 33 suites, and 10 serviced apartments, with views of downtown Kuwait City.
One rendering of the new tower was released and you can see how huge it looks in the skyline shot. The exact location wasn’t revealed but my guess is that it will occupy the property highlighted above since there’s been a rumor for years now that a gigantic project was going to occupy that area. In case you don’t recognize that area, it’s on the same street as Little Ruby’s, across the street from Crystal Tower where Burger & Lobster is located (Google Maps). The building that currently houses Burger & Lobster will supposedly be demolished as well to make room for this.

Property of Abu Khamseen
yeah
Anyone knows what’s the typical occupancy of hotels in Kuwait and is it in line with those in other popular tourist or business frequented cities?
Now I wish someone would take over and develop the land occupied by Safir Hotel, and the land formerly occupied by the US embassy.. both in Bneid Elgar
Or build a park
My understanding is that land was gifted to Bahrain
That is correct. It was gifted to the King of Bahrain decades ago, but it wasn’t an idle empty piece of land. It was leased to the US embassy for many years and even included some very nice semi-detached residences with lots of trees.
My point is to LEASE the land again from the Bahrainis, to a good developer or turn it into a much needed green space. Anything is better than its current state of ugly emptiness!
(as long as it doesn’t block my view!)
holy crap … Burger & Lobster is still open?! 🙂
I still can’t believe how horrible the satellite image on google maps for Kuwait and they still did nothing to correct it. Compare that with the incredible satellite image of Apple Maps.

Any idea what the building will be for? Is it also a business tower like Hamra?
yeah it should be
If its that plot it is nice and sucks cause the hotel view on one side is a old cemetery
well even if the old cemetery wasn’t there wouldn’t make a difference, view would still suck
I agree and disagree my office is right infront of the plot and our floor has 360 view of all sides. Some angles it sucks and some it’s nice cause of the sea view. Hotel view might be nice on higher floors
