Most of you probably already know what a Dreambox is, if you don’t then simply put, it’s a satellite receiver that allows you to watch all the encrypted channels like OSN, HBO, ART, Canal+, Nova etc.. for a flat fee of around KD15 every 6 months. It’s illegal of course since a regular subscription to OSN alone costs around KD20 a month. Well recently OSN have started swapping out receivers and one of the reasons is that they’re changing their encryption from Irdeto to Betacrypt. Once they move over from Irdeto to Betacrypt the Dreambox will no longer be able to decrypt their signal anymore and so you won’t be able to watch OSN. Personally think this is just temporary since everything is crackable but for now looks like the only way you’ll be able to watch OSN is by subscribing through them.

a lot of people said that about sky germany (formerly known as “premiere”) but their channels are dark now for quite a long time.
but i guess you can reduce costs by using card sharing with some of your friends or family.
anyway, my dreambox 800 (once configured) is really a superb sat receiver. definately worth its money.

I got the new OSN receiver mainly for the HD channels, especially FOX Sports HD. Watching NFL football became a whole new experience. You can even see the dandruff on some of the presenters!
I don’t think the HD channels are crackable.
They tried to install one at my house, but then told me I need a new dish. F that.
chefkoch, i have a DM7000 and i am sharing my OSN card with others to view the rest packages am also using another DM600 to get the OSN on that too, but the biggest problem now is that the new OSN HD receivers has the card embedded on it, that means its not a card that u can insert it into the DM800 and tadaaaaa ur done :1 at least that’s what am told, i`ll wait until i get my hands on one and update to you :1
by using this method they killed all the possibility of sharing ! their problem on Dreambox is the Card thingy changing the encryption does not solve the issue.
I love my dreamer…..hope it gets solved…
@ Desert Girl….if it a personal dish installed, OSN will replace it free fo ryou but if it is a central dish then they cannot do anything. You can call OSN and ask them to change it.
For the rest of you, OSN will be moving to all HD channel by end of next year and once that is doen and OSN more to Betacrypt then dreambox will be useless.When a company is spending that much they are sure to have tested the possiblities before hand. I got a dreambox HD and still the HD channels do not work on it.
I stopped watching osn a couple years back .. majority of the content is either 90s reruns and rejects.

i think they use this system with an embedded card here in europe for the afn (american forces network). only the people who work for the army can buy a receiver at their base.
although the receivers have a network card i think it doesn’t work for card sharing.
if they use this method for the new osn receivers than you are screwed.

??? We’ve been converted to the ‘new’ HD box and it has a card. RHS is a fake panel that folds down. We’re in Dubai (moving to Q8 next week), but I can’t imagine OSN have custom boxes per country…?
They exchanged ours to HD a couple of weeks ago, still have no idea what he plus is, the HD channels are not even working.

For the HD channels to work you need an HDMI cable and a TV with an HDMI input (Plasma, LCD, LED). The regular connection to your TV (RCA. The type with the yellow, white and red jacks) will not work with HD. Upgrade the cable and you will see the difference. The installation guy should have told you this.

you have to subscribe for the HD channels too
is the abu dhabi sports channel new receiver “betacrypt”
Based on the package you suubscribe to the HD channels are included in it. If anyone wants to check which channels are included in theor package go to http://www.osnetwork.com of courrse you need to have a HD TV or HDMI slot in your TV to conenct the decoder and view the HD channels.

People actually still watch OSN for tv shows? I used to watch it because they had the license for the English Premierleague, and they lost it (somehow), so what’s the point?

I bet someone’s already working on decrypting the Betacrypt as I type this. The guys who do this on the black market are pros…..well almost. Besides I remember watching the same episode of the George Lopez Show on Show Comedy around 4 times in the same fornight! The same freakin episode!!!!

anyone know how to get the british forces satellite ?? is it possible to get british tv here in q8?
there a 3 satellites which broadcast the british forces broadcasting service:
– Eutelsat W3A – 7.0° E
– NSS 806 – 40.5°W
– Eurobird 1 – 28.5°E

they have detailed information about all satellites, programs, decryption etc. always uptodate.

you can look if a satellite is availabele in your country and what size you need for your dish to watch it.
Well People still Don`t Get it :/ This OSN HD Reciver has NO CARD on it how can u guys decrypt betacrypt and share it with people ??! the whole Reciver is the Card got it now ?
chefkoch: well am half screwed the 2nd Dreambox i have is useless now but i bought it for a good price from UAE plus i can record with it plus i can subscripe for other Packages such as ART JSC etc my father was watching arabic channels mostly so losing OSN isn`t that important to him, and about the DM7000 well i have it from 2003 and its still rock solid i am using it to View Arabsat and enjoying the rest of the Packages on my PC and XBMC HTPC :p
P.S Owning Dreambox = no loss at all 🙂
Boss is wrong the new box has a card I have one.
Until over the air update to the HD Box my 5.7 card used to read as Irdeto since the update it now shows as Betacrypt. ?????

Its heartening to know that the Betacrypt is already cracked..!! Well for the dreambox to incorporate it is just a matter of time.
The dreambox works on a Softcam (CAM Emulator) and soon a Emulator for BetaCrypt will also be available on Dreambox. One the Softcam is there, Card sharing wont be an issue…
Once a card is shared, you all will get the OSN back. The only one catch is remaining which I am not sure as yet… whether the Card and the receiver is paired ?? If thats the case then the dreambox would require another SIM/Chip to emulate the Sat Box as well.
Lets see.. they have given some food for research & Development. Will post if I get any progress on it.
