Mercer’s 2016 Quality of Living rankings were just released and it’s not that much different from last years. Nearly everyone in the region dropped a couple of spots but Kuwait managed to move up one point to 124th place world wide. Regionally though Kuwait still trails behind UAE, Oman and Qatar.
1 – Vienna, Austria
75 – Dubai, UAE (-1)
81 – Abu Dhabi, UAE (-4)
107 – Muscat, Oman (-3)
110 – Doha, Qatar (-2)
124 – Kuwait City, Kuwait (+1)
133 – Manama, Bahrain (-3)
164 – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (+1)
165 – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (+1)
230 – Baghdad, Iraq

I suppose it would be inappropriate to point out the common threads on the top and bottom of the global list?
+1, Then why it feels so bad than before.
what
Kuwait will ALWAYS be behind Dubai. It must suck to have that in your mind all the time.
meh.
I sleep fine thank you very much. I bet most people don’t give a **** as well because we’re adults and it’s not a competition.
I really would like to know what the Quality of Living is based on. I mean to be honest as a Puerto Rican I am proud that San Juan is ahead of Dubai and all. But I can’t fathom why. Sure San Juan is nice and beautiful. All the buildings there are at least 450 years old and the last 3 mayors really cleaned up the crime but to compete with Dubai, or any of the Gulf Cities… Well I am also a realist and can’t see how. You still can’t get a job in San Juan for more than minum wage and the rent is atleast $1200 for a small studio apartment. What about Detroit?!?! My cousins live near there and have sent me pictures of Detroit that look like parts of Syria. You can forget about getting a job in Detroit too as there aren’t many. Detroit went from the Motor City to the Homeless City. At least in Kuwait you can work. Even of the salary may not be paid the same to every one but it is definately better than Detroit. I jut want to know what is considered quality of life is all. I mean if being able to get a job and low crime is not part of quality of life then Ok.
How in the heck is Bahrain lower than Kuwait? For crying out loud you can rent a 2-3br flat in the private community of Amwaj Island anywhere between 300-500KD. Also they starting to build more malls there too(Avenues Bahrain).
I pay 500 for a 5 bed room house 600 meters in Sabah Al Ahmad
How did we beat the likes of Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Bahrain & Thailand? I’ve been to some of those places and I know they offer a better quality of life than Kuwait does.
Funny I’d rather live in Iraq in the middle of a war than live anywhere near saudi arabia.
U forgot Tunis or Tunisia ranked 113#.. Detroit better Seol!
The list is for Mercer employees – it is a Western human resources consulting firm. Mercer asked their staff.
The photo is good.
+1? I would say the quality of living has gotten worse and it’s going to get even worse for expats.
