Well we had Sting, Thriller and Herbie Hancock perform in Kuwait so I’m sure the whole point of the arena is to hold concerts. JACC was on a roll till covid hit and they had a huge star lined up for last year.

Zaydoun

Live Nation are already in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), so this is just a natural part of their regional expansion.

Tamdeen Group wouldn’t open a huge project like this without doing the proper research and analysis within Kuwait, they are a well-respected company responsible for many successful projects in Kuwait.

Live Nation don’t need JACC. Before coronavirus, Music concerts were very common at local places like Kuwait International Fairground, Al Shaheed Park, and Yarmouk Cultural Centre (Dar al Athar al Islamiyyah).

even Kuwait University are building a huge concert venue to compete with AUM’s live music venues. Not to mention the huge venue currently under construction at Al Shaheed Park

Btw, this is nothing new. Tamdeen Group already announced it in their 2018 report.

Mark already posted about it in April 2018

That’s all very fine and well but how will they circumvent our ridiculous laws that prevent concerts taking place or make them totally unfeasible?

Actually you’re wrong and I’m going to explain why you’re wrong.

Prior to Coronavirus (COVID-19), so many Live music events and rock/pop concerts happened in Kuwait on a daily basis. Many with the government’s approval and financial funding even. Some with the Indian cultural associations, others with the Pakistani associations. Google is your friend, you can find hundreds of events if you just “google” them. Or check out the YouTube videos, there are simply too many events going on in Kuwait. Not a single MP ever talks about these events, even though it’s all over the internet and easily accessible even from YouTube (search “music concert Kuwait” the search entries are so long and endless)

But every now and then, the Ministry of Interior likes to cancel events aimed at Kuwaiti citizens (randomly picked) to maintain the idea that Kuwait is an ISIS Al Qaeda fundamentalist extremist kind of place. These canceled events are aimed at Kuwaiti citizens (not expats). The Kuwaiti government intentionally does this to send a political statement (political message) to Kuwaiti citizens.

Case in point, provocative musicians like Tyga, Russ, and Googoosh all had popular concerts in Kuwait, even american rapper Ne-Yo had a live concert at the middle of the Avenues Mall. The videos are all over YouTube. Girls dancing and screaming. Where were the Islamists when this happened and why did no one complain about it?

The Avenues Mall even had a public live rock music Battle of the Bands event right in the middle of the Avenues in front of everyone. People were dancing and rocking hard. It was all in cooperation with Yamaha. Yet, not a single MP talked about it.

But when an event does get canceled, it’s usually so hyped up in the Local media and even by the government itself (the government usually holds press conferences just to talk about it).

Naturally, all the Kuwaiti “liberals” in social media become so angry and fight with the Islamists. It’s a never-ending battle. So-called liberals and Islamists in Twitter love fighting and arguing over petty issues like this….

There is so much social media Twitter hype and the bot accounts are out of control. The government knows this and uses it to its advantage. So every now and then the Kuwaiti government like to appease the hardline extremist Salafi Isamists via Cancelling events (randomly). Some of these canceled events are so insignificant and irrelevant that no one has even heard of them until they get cancelled…. It speaks volumes really about the social media bots hype and hashtags. This is a game the Kuwaiti government likes to play. It’s been going on for years.

After what happened at the parliament with the election of the Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, it is evident that the Islamist MPs are just puppets and have no real power in the parliament. They are all bought and easy to buy. The government just takes advantage of them.

If the government wants something done, it can get it done.

If the government wants Live Nation in kuwait, it can get Live Nation in Kuwait

The government is the only one in control, not the pseudo parliament and not the islamists. There is no actual democracy in Kuwait. I’m honestly surprised you haven’t figured this out yet.

The islamists have no real power, they are simply puppets of the government (as evidenced by ‏‏تصويت ‏رئيس مجلس ‏الأمة )

‏جلسة ‏تصويت الرئاسة ‏بينت الحقيقة

There are no laws in the State of Kuwait that criminalise Music Concerts from taking place.

The “Ministry of Interior” can cancel events without any legal basis or reason.

The “Ministry of Interior” has that type pf power.

You sound like a corporate brochure my friend. A lot of nonsense to unpack here. Concerts and live events are not a safe investment in Kuwait because the laws are murky. There are more cancelled events throughout the year than actual live events, many of which turned out to be financial and logistical nightmares.

In regards to your cheerleading soliloquy on Tamdeen Group, you don’t have to be an expert to see how much of a nightmare the last 2 years has been for them. Opening up a large “live entertainment venue” is a natural move for a company with a lot of real estate they cannot rent or sell out.

Actually you’re wrong. It is simply factually incorrect to claim that “most music events are cancelled in Kuwait”.

I have talked to many South Indian and Pakistani cultural associations in Kuwait. Prior to Coronavirus, hundreds of live music events and music concerts occurred in Kuwait and did not get canceled. You can easily Google “music concert kuwait” and there are so many videos available on YouTube and Facebook.

Out of every 100 event(s), only one or two events got canceled per year and these canceled events are usually hyped up in the local media and even by the Kuwaiti Government itself (to send a political statement to Kuwaiti citizens). The government holds actual Press conferences just to talk about them canceling an event. That alone speaks volumes, really.

Regarding the so-called “murky laws”, there are no laws in Kuwait that prohibit events showcasing live music and culture. There is nothing “murky” about the law in this regard. In fact, Kuwait’s Constitution encourages the spread of Art and Culture.
