A Walk Around Gate Mall

gatemall1

Gate Mall is a new mall that recently opened in Egaila near Al Bairaq Mall. I wasn’t really interested in the mall until I saw a photo of the building from the outside in one of my whatsapp groups and thought the mall façade looked pretty cool. So I passed by earlier today to check it out.

First problem, there is no parking. For some reason the mall decided they didn’t need parking so the only parking I saw available was a large parking lot outside that is shared by two other surrounding malls. It was before noon on a weekday and I had trouble finding parking so I can imagine it would be near impossible to find parking on a weekend. The only alternative is to park at Al Bairaq mall and then walk through Al Bairaq towards Gate Mall.

Once you walk into the mall though things do get better. The mall is six floors and most of your favorite brands are there including the likes of Zara, Nike, Al Ostoura, Debenhams, H&M, Victoria Secret and Sephora. Food wise there was a Starbucks and Pinkberry open with a number of other places opening soon like Shake Shack, Tim Horten’s, Coldstone, Just Falafel, Cafe Baza and Margherita.

There were no movie theaters from what I saw. Other than the major parking issue the mall should prove to be useful for the people living in the area but by no means a replacement to Avenues or 360 Mall. If you want to know how to get to it, here is the location on [Google Maps]

there’s 8 cinema’s theater that will operate by cinescape and it will open by the end of this year

should be called “The Wall”, looked ugly during construction and still does, and the parking feels claustrophobic.

Why doesn’t Kuwait understanding parking? Although waleed has highlighted that there will be a cinescape there, malls need FREE entertainment to survive. Dubai does a brilliant job at this, they are having live monopoly in the Emirates Mall. Dubai Mall usually has live free entertainment in the mall especially on week-ends, Kuwait needs to learn this, listening Avenues? This mall will fail.

If you think that’s corrupt. Wait till you see the new apartments approved by them. Its a single bedroom in the blueprint. Once the plan is approved they divide the living room and convert it into a second bedroom.

Plus the basement parking is converted into a rented storage area once the tenants move in so you’ve got a 10 floor apartment building with 40 families and parking space for 5 cars.

The best apartment I saw recently was in 12th block (Near Indian Public School) where all the toilets had transparent glass doors! Wonder who draws up all these plans 🙂

Baladiya is not corrupt , its the source of all corruption, everyone knows it and the Amir himself said it.As a citizen I think (the country is beyond repair) just get as much as you can while it lasts

I had the opportunity to discuss with one of the project manager and he told me that the Parking is actually still under construction and will have a total capacity of 900 cars (200 in the front of the mall, and 700 in the back)

I do believe that as mentioned by Mark the location of the Mall will make it attractive to the residents and students in the area, so my guess is that it will actually be successful.

Free (dirt cheap compared to the actual price) land from the gov, free money to build, rental fee of 50 kd per squared meter , qofliya 500 kd per meter

And they dare to charge shop owners 2000-3000 kd to build a parking complex which won’t be built.

Finally, Timmy’s is opening in Kuwait. I’ve been there when I was in the states, best coffee ever!

I heard about the mall , and since it was a little bit far for me , I decided to go first i couldn’t find it easily but that is part of me being unaware of the area which the mall is located in , second , when you hear about such mall and how big is it and you see the advertisements , you expect something really nice but i was surprised… it is a small mall like one part of the avenues and a little bit bigger than fanar in a horrible crowded area that would give you no space for parking or such and even if you did find a parking getting in and out is a mess… at least at this stage and honestly it is not totally open so I can’t officially judge my experience but from what I saw, nothing would make me go there again unless there was a really good excuse.

Sephora? really???? on which floor did you see it please? that would save me a trip to the avenues, cuz i’m mainly there for Sephora ^_^ thank you

Thank you for the map ! It’s frustrating to be a new person in Kuwait and not given any real navigational aids except being told what other buildings things are near. People assume you just know where buildings are located.

Parking was already an issue before The Gate existed, that parking area between the two malls now is just a flat plot of land without any designated parking spots. can you imagine how awful that is.. leaving the parking layout for so many (too many) inconsiderate people to deal with themselves? Its like a rat maze experiment, testing how long it takes to give you a psychotic episode.
Speaking of psychotic.. And the main reason Im commenting, I got an sms notification from the mall after visiting recently.. that they were hosting a religious lecture INSIDE THE MALL on friday afternoon… which sounds very off-putting and excluding for many shoppers who don’t wish to be preached on a loudspeaker while purchasing a burger to go/new pair of socks/red lipstick etc. and the exact opposite of what a mall should be doing to attract regular shoppers I would imagine?
