I was leaving Sultan Center a few minutes ago when I spotted a fire that had just started at Al Fanar Complex. I believe it’s River Island. [YouTube]
Update: They evacuated the whole mall. When I was there it was filling up with smoke really quickly and I was just checking twitter and people posted about being evacuated from the movie theaters via the fire escape:
@msallam88: Reporting live fron fanar cinema exiting through the fire exit cuz there’s a fire
@A_alshahry: 7areeeeeja bil fanar kaaaak & got kicked out the film
Also @A_ALTuwaijri uploaded the photo below, looks like it’s gotten worst since I was there.
Update2: Here is another picture this one taken by blackfoxx5, looks like the fire has spread to the adjacent stores…
Update3: Looks like the fire has been extinguished. Picture below by AzizohStix
Update4: The blogger spunkmania managed to take pictures showing the aftermath of the fire. Below is one of the pictures but he has more [Here]. I’m pretty impressed on how the fire managed to remain contained and not spread to the rest of the shop or the adjacent ones.

Thats Horrible,
Wat is the reason ?
I hope no one was hurt! For some reason I love this mall
I wonder how they will control the fire coz it seems to be getting worst 🙁
I was in the vicinity at that moment… sad.
I’d just pass by that place, still a lot of cops, Ambulance and fire fighting trucks .
I saw 1 or 2 investigators too . Hope everything is ok .
we need the empty land to build a library or something
Sad, hope no one was hurt.
Is the cause of the fire known yet?
We where having dinner at Le’Notre (or how ever u spell it) when the fire erupted. Lenotre is located at the basement of fanar, so u might imagine what it was like for us to be seeing fire above us. But fanar was readily prepared for emergency cases like this, there where emergency stair cases that took you out of the mall, people where calm and everything went smooth and in a mature way. police and firefighters where directing people where to go, and i dnt think anyone got hurt.
btw, it wasnt that much of a deal, i guess there was only 1 or 2 shops that got burnt.
Financially the damages are quite significant…i’m guessing insurance should cover it though…in a couple of years.
I’ve loaded some pics i took this morning.
Thanks
SM
