How to improve the Avenues

A reader going by the nickname “La Revue de Koweit” posted the comment below under the Avenues fight post and I thought it was funny but yet made sense at the same time. Below are 7 fight preventative actions that should be taken:

1) Serious shoppers should avoid going to the Avenues over the weekends and public holidays.

2) Increased presence of law enforcement officers on Segways throughout the mall and mounted on horseback in the parking lot.

3) Videowalls in the courtyard areas with live streaming videos from different fashion houses from Milan, Paris, London, New York and Tokyo plus exhaustive coverage of all the fashion weeks would be a useful distraction to keep the Jahra and/or Saudi set yobs engaged.

4) Rope in LoYAC to arrange activites that excite youth such as, kite flying, skateboarding and karting outside the mall.

5) Organize frequent blood donation drives and free health checks: mobile health camps to make possible blood draws for screening of thalassemia, blood glucose etc, all of which serve as small but rather useful diversions for channeling of youthful energies and making the national sport of weekend birdwatching seem less macabre and more civil.

6) Holding of spelling bees at That-el-salasil.

7) Naming and shaming policy can be a rather useful deterrant. Mugshots and names of the yobs involved in a fight should be displayed on a special bulletein board – the Avenues Fight Barometer for all and sundry to see.

May I add?
8) AlShaya hires a new management staff who organizes live entertainment in the malls to entertain the crowds like in Dubai – this helps business, people are happy, they will spend money.
9) BAN SMOKING and enforce it within the mall – most of these kids smoke so they will head to another malls and they can take the rest of the smokers with them.
10) Do block advertising across empty wall spaces promoting stores within the mall. I see alot of advertisement for TV channels – this doesn’t help store vendors.
11) Hire mall police with those scooters to shoot across the mall quickly to handle outbursts.
PS Most foreigners don’t go to Avenues at night, weekends (only friday mornings) or holidays.

The wall of shame would be genius! And it should be implemented for sure!

They should really enforce the ban on smoking! I have seen people who keep smoking there and its annoying!

I don’t go to Avenues after Sunset!

great suggestions!
i commend the health-related ones like the blood donation and anti-smoking campaign, which i help organize in malls back in my home country.
i hope they can do it here.

Since everyone is on a roll here, let me add my two pennies worth as well.

One thing I have noticed is that the security guards employed by Avenues, have absolutely no effect on troublemakers, in fact give them a chance and they rather not deal with these juveniles. As the end of the day, lets say the security guards need protection themselves. Here are a few sure shot ways to curb these mutts.

1. Publish pictures of disruptive juveniles in the daily newspapers.
2. Position a lockup in the mall, where juveniles can be locked up for the public to see.
3. Set up clear warning signs outside the malls warning troublemakers of dire consequence for inappropriate behavior.
4. Impose a fine on troublemakers
5. Mace them
6. Have the cops parade them in handcuffs through the mall

I had many other ideas like the use of a cattle prod and stuff, but we’ll hold those thoughts for now.

And again, next time I need to go shopping, I will wait until I get a good size list and hop on a plane to Dubai, I will boycott this country. Some of these suggestions paint a picture of anarchy, is that what Kuwait is moving into, civiity out the window with snipers on the roof. PASS on this place. How pathetic. AlShaya needs to get a handle on this matter, or close shop, is it really that hard to solve? Not really.

How about entry cards? It would be a joint mall security group where you apply to get a card to enter a mall. At each gate there would be electronic gates with security guards, to stop people from jumping the gate. Anyone who is involved in a fight is banned for year for first time, 3years for second time and 10 years as third.
I know there would be a high chance of molesters at gates at rush hour but you could segment queue.

Another let the parents of the people or those people( if above 18) pay ridiculous fees.

The trouble is that if they put the little scallywags in cuffs and parade them their father, their fathers father, their uncles and their nephews will come and create more drama than the bold and the beautiful. Then their mother and all her relatives will come and make even more drama. It will end up like Greys anatomy where everyone is crying 24/7.

I liked them all but am not sure about the last one, trouble makers might take it more to their likings, let’s say, “a hall of famer!” one kid gets his picture up on the wall and he starts boasting about it…

everybody is talking and nobody is doing anything, instead of saying (we should) implement and initiate those rules with force … cuz those scum need to b dealt with force not with kind words
