I don’t know how many people have noticed this but right in front of the Scientific Center there is an abandoned Kenny Rogers Roasters. I never knew about it when it was open and I’m actually curious to know why it closed down. Does anyone know anything about the place? For those of you who are Seinfeld fans you might remember the episode below when a Kenny Rogers Roasters opens up across the street.

I remember trying it in Malaysia, it was great. As far as I remember the branch in Kuwait never opened at all.
actually and I don’t think many remember it or been born yet that actually KRR was in khaldiya coop area which hosts family accessory shop today.in the 80s pizza inn (the old franchise ) was there until it was closed down before the invasion I think. KRR if im not mistaken was opened in early 90s and was closed 2 years later at most. reason to close down was obvious the concept of theme restaurants that cost 3-5 kd per person was totally new to society not to mention relatively expensive . add to that the bad location who would put a theme resraurent inside a local residential area that’s idiotic honestly and buffolos keifan is an excellent example

since you said pizza inn i think you about them and they are back in kuwait with three branches one at true value (al rai), one at city centre (salmiya) and the third in fintas 🙂
I heard (dunno if it is true) that just about the time that they completed this restaurant, Kenny Rogers restaurants in the States were having trouble/closing down, so they decided not to open this one. It’s primo property – too bad they don’t sell it to someone.
I wonder if Sheikh Talal (who owns the hubungous mansion behind it) also owns this land. If so, I think that’s all on hold…
I know that it was closed for 11 year now, and Shaikh Talal living next to the restaurant has a hand in closing it ..

actually kenny rogers roasters did open in kuwait, not sure if it was this location or not..but me and my family would go there to eat sometimes..and they had reallly good chicken! i was really young at the time and remember it was pretty oily haha…i probably wouldnt eat it now tho because of how unhealthy it was. but ya they didnt stay open for that long
I remember that great jacket potatoe selection they had, I used to go there for 1 JP and half roasted chicken, simple and easy on digestion! and above all tasty.
Plus I loved KR’s song in the Big Lebowsky, its still on my favorite song lists, hell that musical part of the movie is engraved into my head years later.

Heard it was an issue between the restaurant owner and the property owner (but I can’t confirm if this was the reason).
I was hoping it opens but with time I gave up.

It was delicious, but this branch have some problem and it didnt have achanc to open .
Who is this sheikh talal that you guys are referring to? Why would he necessarily want to shut down a restaurant? It doesn’t make sense, if you ask me. A reason could be that negotiations between the owner in Kuwait and the company backfired or something.
well the mother company in the states bankrupted and closed down all franchises, and the remaining franchises in Asia got bought by an asian company and operating in southeast asia only.
A crappy American franchise in a prime location that didn’t make any sense… Glad it didn’t open!
Seems to be doing well in Malaysia,Singapore and Dubai also. It is now a Malaysian owned company. Very tasty chicken!
First branch was in Khaldeya area (same location of Shahrayar now). I used to walk from home to get some dinner. It was so yummy as far as I remember.
the restaurant never opened , i went to the tasting as a kid , the company owning it had some issues and shutdown before completing the restaurant ..
it had a train track that was framing the restaurant ceiling , it was nice ..
I had it when it was open for a bit in kuwait and it tasted really really awful and dry. I guess that’s why it closed down so quickly.
كان له فرع فى جمعية الخالدية على الشارع الرئبسى قبل لوازم العائله اعتقد فى التسعينيات وكان يشوى على الخشب دجاج لذيذ الطعم وحسافه ما طول بس موقعه

i do actualy remember this as i leaved right infront in ironically enough, well anyway i was very young but i do remember it openeing and closing realy quickly as well which was pretty strange, ofcourse back then as long as hungry bunny was open the world was just fine 😛
