Sharq movie now online

Abdulaziz from Jukebox Society emailed me to tell me that the short film SHARQ is now available to watch online via Vimeo. I never got the chance to watch it so it’s pretty cool I can see it online now.

What i found annoying is some strange shit like u see the kids walking into souk sharq but once they are inside you see they are in marina mall. it looks like the film was put together for the international market and not the local one because we can easily spot shit like that and its kinda kills the flow of the movie. In some scenes the music was very cheesy, in other scenes I was like they must be using a different director of photography cuz you have some really great looking and artsy framing in one shot and then the next it’s like a big mess. oh and the scene where they were like in salmiya i was like yelling at the screen guys there is Waleed Toys right behind you he has footballs! lol

overall a great short film, it’s the best film i’ve seen that was locally produced.

translation is really fast also.. have to pause sometimes to read what they were saying in arabic.. but a well made movie i would say.. and would love to see some more arabic (kuwaiti Kuwait Based) movies!

good job ! hope some key people understand what kuwait is NOT doing to support creatives/talent. this done with the resources in kuwait is pretty inspiring. its time for some support from people with authority for this industry.

Thanks for all your comments guys… Sharq was my first production, and Mark is right it worked better in the international Market. I must say I was disappointed with the movie in Kuwait, when we started we had no support or anything, and then we had all those faceless people from Zain and Al Watan support us for the “premiere” and that’s it. Honestly, the money spend on putting a premiere like that could have gone to making another short film. It really disappoints me that I don’t want to work in Kuwait anymore, home just doesn’t feel like it’s home anymore. I’ll bring you guys better films and music from abroad. Kuwait just doesn’t deserve it at the moment… Cheers and thanks again.

Zeus please come back and give us another locally shot short film! I think you didn’t get support because so many before you came, got the support and left everyone disappointed. As I said above, your film is probably the best ever done locally and next time you would get more help since everyone knows what you are capable of.

I second mark. This is an amazing platform. Amazing supporters will come your way when you make more movies.

You have to think with the Kuwaiti Mindset. Not trying to offend, but our mindset is to follow and not to lead, therefore since zain and al-watan support was the first because they are ultra rich, The other small ones (comparitively) will follow!

Again, Amaazing work Done! and really appreciate it

the only thing that annoyed me was how the film portrayed al-jahra i’m from there and they shot in the place where all these misplaced Iraqi’s live in aka ppl without the jensya (nationality) however al-jahra is like any other town in kuwait minus the iraqis and el halag lool i noe it covers a lot of ppl :p but other than that it was a great film, enjoyed it.

Well I promised a few people that I was coming back to make another film, I never go back on my word… So I’m in for getting a crew together for another Jukebox Production. Any cinematographers, writers, actors or just anyone interested in Entertainment, check out http://www.jukeboxsociety.com, I’ll have sign-ups soon and a place where anyone can link their films and music. I hope to hear more from all of you, Cheers, I’ll see you Summer 2011 for filming

another good kuwaiti film was the one sponsored by zain, they had it at cinemagic early in the summer, wonderful world was it?

just finished watching it… even though i dont speak any arabic… it was an interesting and well made short film… the editing is exceptional… job well done keep it up… thanks mark for posting…

This pretty Awesome considering the short movie done with low expenses and by amateurs not by pros.
the story is delightful
the plot is flow
the events are smooth
the kids are cool 😀
this pretty amazing for me

yet the translations was crappy along with some sites
they’re in souq sharq/marina/eureka all in together 😛

Zeus!

NO, do MORe in kuwait! Rlly job well done! And ya I know what you mean about encouragement etc. but I think like there should be greater hype. I mean if it wasn’t for this post I wouldnt have known about this. I don’t know what you could do about that, but wala I know so many ppl who want this kind of thing and are interested but like I don’t know, its weird that you guys didnt get the proper funding/attention u deserve.

Just to say, I salute you Zeus for the effort put into this movie. If this was your first production, I wonder how much better your next ones will be inshalla. This movie made me laugh and also brought back many childhood memories. I await your next work, I’m a fan! PS. Please continue working in Kuwait doing similar movies, we need it! And we love this movie!

even though i would have loved to see that little boy go see sharq this was such a sweet movie im telling everyone i know about it. even though i am kuwaiti and have lived there my whole life ive never really thought about or have been even really been told about other Kuwaitis in that financial state. such a small country but looks different from every angle.
great job Zeus wish you the best of luck!
