Sultan Center and Geant

Sultan Hearts Geant

I was just reading a post from a blogger in Beirut and I found out two interesting things about Sultan Center.

The first which was a surprise is that Sultan Center is now operating the large supermarket chain in Lebanon called Geant. Geant is a large French based supermarket chain like Carrefour which is why I found that interesting. Could Sultan possibly open Geant in Kuwait? Or will they rebrand Geant’s to Sultan Center in Lebanon? I don’t know if Sultan operating Geant in Lebanon will have any effect here in Kuwait but nevertheless a lot of interesting things could happen.

Now the second thing which I found funny actually is that it seems the problem Sultan has in Kuwait with expired produce has worn off onto Geant in Lebanon. The Lebanese blogger purchased rotten meat from the supermarket and had a bad experience with the management there which is why he posted about Sultan and Geant in the first place. This blog by the way is my favorite Lebanese blog so it has some pretty interesting stuff. [Link]

Update: I just found out about another local blogger who found expired food at Sultan Center and was able to document his finding with pictures. He took it up with management and when they found out about his blog they threatened to sue him if he didn’t remove the post. I think thats extremely bad for their image. Threatening a blogger for posting about expired food he found at their supermarket. If anything they should thank him for highlighting the problem. Here are his posts on his experience with Sultan Center…

Sultan center in trouble!
Sultan center did It AGAIN!!!!
Sultan center STRIKE 3!

Note: Please take into account that the above information might not be true. There is no way for us to verify that the bloggers above are telling the truth and we haven’t heard Sultan Center’s side of the story. I for one only shop at Sultan Center.

Geant is going to open in Kuwait very soon. But don’t know by whom. They have started recruiting for their Kuwait operations.

Great! So it’s the same shit as Sultan Center, just with a different name. Mmmm, Geant branded shit smells so much better!

Fuck TSC. They’ve gone downhill in quality and increased their prices consistently. The majority of the management is rude and clueless, and they only stock certain items in certain stores just to get people to go to the different stores to keep up business at that store.

Between that and the rotten meat, now I do most of my shopping at Carrefour and the Co-Op. Good way to keep business, TSC!

mark i have a problem with sultan center which could end up in court…if you dont mind visting my blog (no im not advertsing) and read the three post on sultan center…

currently we’re having a suit against sultan center and are in negotiation with them to see how they will fix our problem…

i wanted to write an article in your blog about their bad service…

https://thedewania.wordpress.com

p.s tonight we should get the result, they said they will pay us 500kd…and if you read artical you’ll notice how their trying to sue us for advertising their bad service…

Dear mike , you should respect the readers& over 5000 sahre holders of Sultan center and use decent words; plus I dont think Zain or gulf insurance would appreciate to advertise in a blog with such words its bad for there image.

Comment from the blog you linked:

“Actually, Sultan signed a contract and payed a down payment. They were supposed to take over about a month ago. For some reason, they decided to back off. Some say its after they discovered ADMIC’s debt was bigger than expected. Anyway, they had the option to back off in the contract, but the problem is that they wanted to get the down payment back. And that’s where the lawsuit is.. to determine if ADMIC can keep the down payment.”

They were supposed to open up ages ago in Lebanon but due to the 2006 war, a lot of the people that were sent to Lebanon for training and stuff had to be sent sent back home

Geant will open in 360 mall. As for Sultan, the inconsistency problem is due to inconsistent management. Too many cooks ruin the soup.

Mark, the information you and other bloggers post about consumer products could be very damaging sometimes,, and un-true of course!

The fact that a person displays a bill from TSC and a package near that bill does not mean they actually purchased the goods at TSC.

As for Lebanon, TSC did make a bid 2 months back for Geant and MonoPrix for a total of US$ 97 million and the bid was accepted, with 2 months grace period for final approval by TSC. SO, TSC is NOT YET in charge either of Geant or MonoPrix in Lebanon. Please do not convey information from other blogs before you verify this information,, as I said (above).

Your blog is quite popular as you know! This is why it could cause much damage to the ‘target’.

TanGo you do make a good point but I believe people are mature enough to make up their own minds. Just to be safe though I will update the post now to make it clear this information could be untrue.

they will open in 360 mall… it will be uplifted Geant, they are leasing the basement,

crocko rock, I can tell you are somehow work with Tamdeen Group.. arent you ?

I’ve had problems in the past with Sultan and their expired food. A few times it is already expired, and others it is really close to the expiration date. I could never do anything about it because I throw out the reciepts. It is not an isolated incident I tell you.

Giant Kuwait will not be operated by Sutlan Center. Sultan Center is trying to expand in the region by purchasing the local stores in the different countries. for example in Jordan they bought safeway all over there but it is still under the safeway brand. i assume they would continue their shopping spree and then rebrand all their chains…. like what agility did … and yeah you are talking the same family here …

Hey! Sultan didn’t buy only Geant in Leb, but also Monoprix. This info is still conf though. They offered to buy other leb chains but only monoprix and geant accepted. Geant was sold for around $40ml, no idea about monoprix.

I bought 3 months old expired cat food (Whiskas Tuna Treats) at sultan salmiya. I returned it that night without causing a fuss. A week later I came back and found at least 30 of the same product with the same expiration date. I went BALLISTIC, and when I go, I GO! I started shouting at the top of my lungs at the manager (with the aim of creating a memorable scene). They took them down right then and there. I stopped them and demanded that they open every package (to render it completely unsellable). They complied. Sadly being civilized and polite gets you no where here.

I also heard from a friend who worked in Sultan for a while that you should never ever ever ever ever eat at the prepared food section or at Jean’s cafe. The reason being that all expired produce and meats arent thrown away, instead they are cooked at Jean’s and the prepared food section. This is from a guy I completely trust and who left Sultan amicably and is fond of them.

Geant is opening in 360 and will be operated by the same group managing Gulf Mart. I guess Al Qatami are the sposors.

dear

this is retail all over word expired item happened even il wall mart
this is the axceptions of the rule , but the kuwait law protect the retailer fom the media usage on order not to black male retailers and if he publish it whish is against the law he will be secrewed up

Hiii, i personally visited the manager of Sultan center and read this topic to him, he started smiling and said:
they have an independent administration just to get rid of expired products ..
and he also said that it might happen, not only in Sultan, you might find expired products in the CO-OPs & even in SaxFifthAvenue in NYork ;p !!

the sultan center bought geant in lebanon and become Tsc mega market and soon geant will open in dubai with admic and im sure of it , but tsc is better than geant and admic in evrything by products and loyalty card wich is comming in march 2009 cuz our interest is our costumer service

Geant Kuwait at the 360 degrees mall is opening in June 2009 in partnership with Tamdeen Group not with The Sultan Center.

Yes, Sultan Center has brought over the Geant franchise in Lebanon and will be running it under the Sultan Center name.

This is the official news. I work for Geant Kuwait.

I read this post with interest. I do shop at TSC a lot and have never had a problem, except when I tried to use my camera~ lol.
The TSC outlet in the Beirut Souks is a wonderful shopping experience, and I would recommend it. They however don’t carry some local products like Armenian cold cuts, only imported hams and the like. I used their nail salon there once just for the experience.
