We went to Beirut to film a TV show about the city’s newly vibrant culinary and cultural scene. Then the bombs started falling, and we could only stand on the barricades of our hotel balcony and watch it all disappear — again.

His travel food stuff is really good and I’ve been really impressed with all the shows I’ve seen. He spends more time talking about the culture than the food, since culture plays an important role in how the food turns out.

I read this last night and it was one of the most powerful reports sent from Beirut since this mess began. Bourdain can now add “war reporter” to his list of achievements
