The International Associations of Multidisciplinary Research (IAMURE) measured both the noise and air pollution levels in Kuwait and concluded that the pollutants in the air are reasonably low while on the other hand the measured ambient noise levels were pretty high.
The noise levels were measured in 10 different locations during various times of the day and week but they don’t mention which locations they chose. I live in Salmiya right on the main shopping street and never really thought it was very noisy or at least not nosier than any other city anywhere in the world. I’d be more interested in the pollution levels of the sea now that summer is here.

Did they measure the level of pollution on dusty days?
That can’t be helped. Kuwait is a desert country after all.
I don’t think dust is counted as pollution. Pollution is caused by man, dust isn’t.
Yes, dust is counted as pollution under the name of Particulate Matter (PM)
Mark, sand dust is considered a pollutant. Sand dust contains silica which is harmful. I have been doing hazardous pollutant monitoring in Kuwait since 2004. A better definition of pollutants should be a harmful substance vs a non harmful substance. Case in point a water supply can be polluted with a natural occurring bacteria. As PM monitoring it’s useless because even the very lowest levels are far above the time weighted average. PM or particulate matters standard is 10 parts per million. The average sandstorm is around 4400-5000 with severe storms around 10000. Most of the chemical pollution occurres in the early morning hours. Silica was hot topic on my last industrial hygiene conference silica was talked about being the new asbestos. To protect yourself wear mask rated for particulate not the cheap cheesy ones they won’t work. 3m makes a great R95 mask.
What I am equally petrified about is the visual pollution that greets us from time to time, in the form of tacky billboards in the Souk Al Watya area of Kuwait City to the peculiarly jaundiced signature hoardings of Moghul Mahal all over town!. The whole thing smacks of a’looking New Bond Street talking Petticoat lane, sorta thing.’
Surely, no one thinks the ugly Moghul Mahal hoarding dabbed in bilious yellow, in sharp juxtaposition with Al Hambra luxury centre lends an air of sophistication and refined cool to this entire smart address block, do they now?!

It’s ugly and doesn’t fit, read a little
Take the results from this paper with a grain of salt. The fact that they only sampled for 23 days (instead of say 180 days / half a year) and that their location was only Kuwait city doesn’t say much. Not many people live in Kuwait city, most live in neighbouring areas.
What about the residents who a say for example are living in Faheel within close proximity of the constantly burning Flares? Or residents who are living near industrial dumping ground / landfill areas? What about Jleeb residents who are packed like sardeens with constant traffic?
This paper also fails to identify what the indoor quality is in and around Kuwait city.
Perhaps this paper is only useful for people who are actually living in Kuwait city itself and spend most of their time outdoors on the streets.
noise pollution high in comparison to air pollution levels with the amount of dust??. Wasn’t it in march an article came in the newspapers announced heavy arrival of asthma patients due to severe sandstorms etc. bad weather conditions??

I won’t be surprised if they were paid to spew such bull*t. The pollutants in air are reasonably low? Take a good look at the sky on any given day and you’ll notice a haze from all the pollution created by all the cars and the oil refineries.
Noise pollution is a problem that people usually disregard, but it has some psychological problems associated with it.
the website looks awful with the burgan bank ad in the background
….
Deal with it lol.. Focus on reading the material, ignore ads if it bothers you..

@ Coo-weight, my lovely:
Shalom, bro’! More than visual pollution, tacky billboards and hoardings amount to ‘designing pornography’. I am surprised Baladiya have no SOP whatsoever on aesthetics for the nation’s capital.
